Chapter 2

A gust of wind swept past.

Someone pinned me against the stone wall.

“Shen Jinhuan! What exactly are you trying to do?”

Xie Yun caged me in his arms and growled, his voice suppressed.

His chest rose and fell, the corners of his eyes tinged red.

I couldn’t hold back.

I slapped him across the face.

“Crown Prince, conduct yourself with dignity. I am your sister-in-law now!”

I had used too much force.

Xie Yun’s head snapped to the side.

He pressed his tongue against the inside of his jaw and let out a low laugh. “You think I care?”

I took two steps back and said steadily, “I think you wouldn’t dare.”

Xie Weichen was the emperor’s most beloved prince.

Unfortunately, he had fallen ill at the age of seven.

He had shut himself away and no longer communicated with others.

If not for that…

The position of Crown Prince probably never would have fallen to Xie Yun.

The moonlight was cold.

Xie Yun lifted his head, a thin layer of frost seeming to coat his eyes. “Shen Jinhuan, are you going to favor him too?”

I nodded seriously. “Yes. I love him. I love him. I love him.”

“Did you hear me clearly?”

Xie Yun froze for an instant.

Then he said arrogantly, “Impossible. You’re lying to me.”

He lowered his eyes in thought. “Is it because three days ago, I saved Shen Nanxin?”

“She’s your younger sister, and she can’t swim. That was why I saved her.”

I sneered.

Right. I had nearly forgotten about that.

That day, I had taken an arrow wound while saving the emperor.

Then I fell into the Imperial Lake.

Shen Nanxin had been startled by the assassins and fallen in as well.

Xie Yun immediately jumped into the lake to save someone.

Beads of blood diffused into threads, trailing into a red shadow.

Xie Yun abandoned me.

He swam toward Shen Nanxin.

The two of them emerged soaked through, leaning on each other.

Later, palace servants rescued me.

I burned with fever for a day and a night and nearly lost my life.

In my previous life, Xie Yun had stayed by my bedside and cared for me attentively.

He had coaxed me with the very same excuse.

How pathetic.

I had actually believed him.

Unfortunately, I had been reborn too late.

Otherwise, in the Imperial Lake, I would have drowned them both.

I suppressed my disgust and said coldly, “Save whoever you want.”

“What does that have to do with me?”

“My future husband has fainted. I need to go see him.”

“Please move.”

Xie Yun’s false smile froze on his face.

He advanced on me like a bloodthirsty beast. “Jinhuan, be good.”

“Go tell the emperor to withdraw his decree.”

“We will be betrothed, and then we will marry.”

The terror of being controlled in my previous life surged over me.

Nervously, I backed away.

Until I hit the wall.

I reached out and felt behind me.

There was nowhere left to retreat.

Bolstering my courage, I said, “What do you think you’re doing? This is the palace!”

Xie Yun’s face darkened.

He spoke in a low voice, suppressing his anger. “So you do know this is the palace!”

“What are you touching?”

Dazed, I turned around.

Xie Weichen’s cheeks were flushed, his eyes struggling.

My gaze moved downward.

My hand was resting right on…

Xie Yun gritted his teeth. “Let go already!”

I steeled myself and snapped, “Shut up!”

“He’s my husband. What’s wrong with me touching him?”

As I spoke, I gave another squeeze.

Xie Weichen let out a muffled groan.

His hand was held in front of his chest, as if he wanted to resist but could not quite bring himself to.

Xie Yun gave a cold sneer. “Fine.”

“Aren’t you just using Third Brother to anger me?”

“Shen Qinghuan, you’ve succeeded.”

“Let’s see how long you can keep this up. Don’t come crying back to beg me.”

Fuming, he strode away.

I rolled my eyes.

Lunatic.

Me, go looking for him?

Even a dog wouldn’t believe that.

A layer of warmth covered my wrist.

Xie Weichen caught my wrist between his fingers and gently moved my hand away.

His Adam’s apple bobbed, and he forced out a few words.

“It is… improper.”

Then the warmth withdrew.

Xie Weichen stepped back.

He pressed his lips together and began gesturing.

I couldn’t understand him.

But my attitude had to be correct.

I guessed earnestly, “You want to get married next month?”

“It’s fine. I don’t mind that you’re ill.”

“Huh? No betrothal gifts? That’s fine too.”

Xie Weichen’s face flushed with urgency.

His hands waved so quickly they left afterimages.

I simply closed my eyes. “Ah, the banquet should be ending soon. I’ll leave first.”

“See you next time, husband.”

Before leaving, I casually felt his abs.

So hard.

I had almost mistaken him for the wall.

After a long while, a sigh came from behind me.

It seemed helpless.

And yet it also seemed happy.
