I Share the Same Face with a Monster - Chapter 15
Chapter 43
Their gazes had changed.
I could feel it.
The way they looked at “Xu Zhiyi” no longer held only scrutiny, desire, and criticism.
There was shock.
There was anger.
And, faintly, the first traces of truly seeing me.
The me in the mirror began to gain weight.
My features slowly grew back.
First, my eyes.
Then my lips.
Last, the tiny mole at the corner of my eye.
Zhou Yan sat before the camera.
My face on his own began to peel away, bit by bit.
Sister Lin covered her mouth.
The live chat went completely insane.
But Zhou Yan didn’t hide.
He even raised his hand and peeled that face off whole.
Before the camera was a blank face.
He said, “Look closely.”
“She isn’t this face.”
“And neither am I.”
In that instant, I fell out of the mirror.
Chapter 44
The livestream went black.
In reality, I collapsed into Zhou Yan’s arms.
My face had returned.
His was gone.
Sister Lin stood off to the side like she’d seen a ghost.
Strictly speaking, she had.
I reached up and touched my own eyes, the bridge of my nose, my lips.
Familiar.
And yet strange.
Zhou Yan lowered his head to look at me.
He had no features.
But I knew he was looking at me.
“Does it still hurt?”
I shook my head.
“What about you?”
He paused.
“A little empty.”
My heart ached.
Then he added, “But not hungry.”
That was probably a good thing.
The police arrived soon after.
Or rather, the first to arrive weren’t the police.
They were from the Abnormal Incident Handling Division.
The woman leading them flashed her credentials and looked at Zhou Yan.
“A skin-type abnormal entity?”
Zhou Yan stood in front of me.
“I’m Zhou Yan.”
Chapter 45
The woman froze for a moment.
“It has a name?”
“Yes.”
She looked at me.
“You named it?”
I nodded.
She sighed.
“Then this is going to be troublesome.”
An abnormal entity with a name couldn’t be handled like an ordinary contaminant.
They wanted to take Zhou Yan away for evaluation.
I refused.
The woman said, “Miss Xu, he once borrowed your face and caused identity contamination.”
“He has hurt people, too.”
I said, “I know.”
“And you’re still blocking us?”
I looked at Zhou Yan.
He had said he wanted to take my face.
And he really had almost replaced me.
But in the end, he had given it back.
I said, “I’m not stopping your investigation.”
“I’m requesting to be present throughout the entire process as the victim and as a party in a symbiotic relationship.”
Behind me, Sister Lin sucked in a quiet breath.
“A symbiotic what?”
I ignored her.
The woman from the division studied me for a long while.
“You’ve got a lot of nerve.”
I said, “I’m all right.”
