I Share the Same Face with a Monster - Chapter 16
Chapter 46
Zhou Yan was taken in for three days of assessment.
I went for all three days too.
There were no mirrors on any of the four walls in the evaluation room.
The lighting was stark white.
Zhou Yan sat in the chair, looking much thinner than before.
The researcher asked, “Do you still want to borrow Xu Zhiyi’s face?”
Zhou Yan said, “Yes.”
My heart skipped a beat.
The researcher immediately looked at me.
Then Zhou Yan continued, “But not without asking.”
My tightly clenched hand loosened a little.
The researcher asked again, “Do you have possessive tendencies toward her?”
Zhou Yan thought for a moment.
“Yes.”
Me: “…”
The researcher’s pen paused.
Zhou Yan added, “I’m controlling them.”
The researcher’s expression turned complicated.
“How?”
Zhou Yan looked at me.
“She’ll get mad.”
The way the researcher looked at me became even more complicated.
Chapter 47
The assessment result was supervised cohabitation.
Zhou Yan was not allowed to come into contact with large mirrors alone.
He was not allowed to borrow a face without permission.
He was not allowed to attack ordinary humans in any form.
As the person in a symbiotic relationship with him, I was responsible for supervising him.
After Sister Lin heard all that, she nearly broke down.
“Xu Zhiyi, now you don’t just have to make a comeback, you have to bring a monster with you too?”
I corrected her.
“His name is Zhou Yan.”
Sister Lin closed her eyes for a moment.
“Fine. Zhou Yan.”
“What can he do?”
Zhou Yan stood off to the side.
“I can refuse drinking engagements for her.”
Sister Lin fell silent.
“That is actually useful.”
I couldn’t help laughing.
It was the first time I had genuinely smiled since my face came back to me.
Zhou Yan turned his head to look at me.
He had no face.
And yet it was as if something had burned him.
“That expression.”
“I’ve never seen it before.”
Chapter 48
On the day of my comeback, I didn’t wear haute couture.
I only wore a very ordinary white shirt.
The press conference was packed with reporters.
Chen Guan’s case had already caused a huge uproar.
Many people wanted to watch me fall apart.
Others wanted to see me sell my misery.
I gave them neither.
I simply sat in front of the microphones and said, “I will continue acting.”
“But I won’t treat my face as my only work anymore.”
A reporter asked, “Then will you still take the beauty route in the future?”
I thought about it.
“Looking like this, I can’t exactly avoid it.”
Someone in the audience laughed.
I laughed too.
“But you can look.”
“And I don’t have to be responsible for every gaze.”
After saying that, I looked toward the wing of the stage.
Zhou Yan was standing there.
Wearing a black mask and a hat.
Even though he didn’t have a face at all.
