Summary
Xu Qilang of the prime minister’s family refused to marry, wholly devoted to cultivating immortality. Madam Xu, wanting to ensure an heir, hired me, the daughter of a seventh-rank petty official, to enter the household. “Just bear me a grandson, and then you can go wherever you want to seek immortality and pursue the Dao!” A year later, the eldest son and eldest daughter were born. Two years later, the second son arrived. Three years later, twin daughters came into the world with loud cries. Madam Xu had one in her arms, two riding on her neck, and one clinging to her thigh. Satisfied yet exhausted, she turned to look at Xu Qilang, who was painting my eyebrows. “Weren’t you going to become an immortal? Why don’t you hurry up and go?” There’s hardly any room left in the house!
