Chapter 113

(Note: As of 2025.2.19, Chapter 107 has undergone significant revisions. These do not affect the plot progression; readers may choose to re-read it or ignore this notice.)

Ye Susheng led Hua Suihe to a herd of wild camels.

Wild camels were timid and cautious creatures. One could not rush forward and startle them, as doing so would likely trigger a stress response.

Hua Suihe watched from a distance. The camels were tall and robust, looking quite difficult to tame. “I wonder how those other players did it. Are there really camels that will just listen?”

Ye Susheng’s face beamed with a smile. Suddenly, as if struck by a playful whim, she asked, “Hua Hua, how about we play a game?”

Hua Suihe was a bit puzzled. “What kind of game?”

Ye Susheng said, “I’ll go over first and lead back a camel from the ones that don’t run away. Then, Hua Hua will be the one to tame it.”

Hua Suihe looked at her eager eyes and then at the camels in the distance. Knowing that following along would be useless and trusting that Ye Susheng must have a way to bring one back since she suggested it, she agreed.

“Alright,” Hua Suihe replied readily. “I’ll wait here then. I hope Ye Zi can bring back a big camel capable of carrying both of us.”

[Can Hua Hua really tame a wild camel? Record this-precious footage of a human taming a wild camel.]

[Is it possible that the one Ye Susheng brings back will already be obedient?]

[Didn’t Yi Shuang say to pass through the Tunnel before sunset? It looks like time is almost up.]

[Actually, it’s far from it. The sun in the sky has stopped moving.]

Hua Suihe remained where she was, watching Ye Susheng vanish from her side. In the blink of an eye, she saw her friend barge into the camel herd. Her sudden appearance startled the animals, sending them fleeing in all directions and kicking up a cloud of dust.

Yellow sand billowed into the air, obscuring Hua Suihe’s vision. She couldn’t pinpoint Ye Susheng’s location and could only see the panicked camels scattering. She estimated they had mostly run off by now.

Before worry could even set in, Ye Susheng’s figure emerged from the dust. She was leading a sturdy camel by hand, and the animal followed behind her with its head lowered.

Ye Susheng held a faint, shimmering black rope. As she drew closer to Hua Suihe, her expression brightened, and she quickened her pace. “Hua Hua, Hua Hua~ This one is a good boy. I’ve brought him over!”

Wild ones weren’t safe, so she had simply cut off its head and planted a puppet head on it. Now, it was obedient and safe.

Ye Susheng very confidently handed the lead rope to Hua Suihe. “I’ll leave the rest of the task to Hua Hua~”

The camel didn’t lift its head. Its eyes were blood-red, making it look as though it had been beaten into submission.

Hua Suihe cautiously touched the camel’s head. It showed no signs of aggression and was extremely docile.

Worried that Hua Suihe might be afraid, Ye Susheng patted the camel’s body herself. It merely flicked its tail and remained motionless. Ye Susheng was very satisfied. “Isn’t it well-behaved?”

“It certainly doesn’t have much of a temper.” Hua Suihe’s voice was soft. She stared blankly at the camel’s red eyes for a moment, her slender hand stroking its furry head before sliding down its neck.

Ye Susheng suddenly caught her hand, inadvertently stopping her movement, and pulled her to her side. “Hua Hua is so amazing; the camel is very obedient. I’ll lift you up now. It won’t be easy to travel once it gets dark.”

Ye Susheng easily hoisted her onto the camel’s back, placing Hua Hua in front while she sat behind, wrapping her arms around her waist and letting her hold the black rope.

Ye Susheng spoke in an excited tone, “Let’s go, toward the sunset!”

Hua Suihe looked down and immediately spotted the stitched scars on the camel’s neck that weren’t fully covered by fur. She stared intently for a moment, then reached out to gently brush the fur over them, ensuring the wound was completely hidden until not a trace remained.
“Let’s go.”

The camel seemed to understand human speech, carrying the two people on its back as it moved in the right direction.

Before long, a mountain towering into the clouds appeared before them. As they reached its base, the rays of the setting sun were completely blocked out. Aside from a narrow, dark tunnel directly ahead, there was no other way through; this side of the mountain was a sheer cliff face.

“This terrain is quite interesting.” It was hard to tell if this was a modification of the landscape by the dungeon game or if this desert had always been this way.

The only way to reach the other side of the mountain was through the Tunnel; otherwise, it would be impossible to leave this desert. It was unclear whether this was just a game mechanic or if this was truly the only path in reality.

Hua Suihe put on her glasses. The Tunnel was ten kilometers long, and the glasses wouldn’t provide any light for her, so visibility throughout the entire passage was extremely low.

Ye Susheng, however, could see-pairs of glowing green eyes and the traces of blood yet to dry on their muzzles.

The sand beneath them was shifting, but it wasn’t quicksand; it was a mass of snakes, scorpions, and other venomous insects writhing beneath the surface.

The rule for passing through was that players could not touch the ground. As long as a player didn’t land, the monstrosities clinging to the walls wouldn’t act rashly; they wouldn’t even attack if a flashlight was shone on them.

However, an ordinary camel couldn’t withstand the harassment of the venomous insects on the ground. If one entered without giving the camel some form of defense, it was a death trap.

Many players must have died here, as the air inside smelled foul. Ye Susheng rested her head on Hua Suihe’s shoulder, her tone sounding a bit weary. “Hua Hua, the process might be quite boring, and it’s very dark inside. You can lean against me and take a nap first.”

After entering the Tunnel, the rustling sounds became very clear, making one feel inexplicably tense.

Sensing her tension, Ye Susheng tightened her arms around Hua Suihe’s waist and nuzzled her ear with the tip of her nose. “Don’t be afraid, Hua Hua. We’re very safe.”

Hua Suihe couldn’t see, but she could hear that the noises were coming from beneath them. Forcing herself to stay calm, she asked, “Are there snakes on the ground?”

Ye Susheng secretly felt Hua Suihe’s little belly, which had instinctively tensed up from nervousness. Finding the sensation quite endearing, she asked back, “Is Hua Hua afraid of snakes?”

“I’m not afraid of snakes, I’m afraid of pain.” If she got bitten… Hua Suihe silently lifted her legs a bit higher, terrified that a snake might jump up and bite her.

This small movement didn’t escape Ye Susheng’s eyes. “Hua Hua, this camel is very tall. You don’t need to lift your legs.”

After saying that, she kindly pressed Hua Suihe’s legs back down to help her relax before continuing her comfort. “It’s fine, Hua Hua. They’re just some harmless little bugs. We’re perfectly safe.”

Hua Suihe kept unconsciously leaning back. Her back was pressed against Ye Susheng’s front, close enough to share body heat, which finally gave her a slight sense of security.

Ye Susheng suddenly felt that finding a camel to cross the Tunnel had been the right choice. She thoroughly enjoyed Hua Hua’s reliance on her-an emotion Hua Hua rarely showed in their daily lives.

“Just let me hold you tight, Hua Hua. As long as you don’t fall off, we’re good.” Ye Susheng pressed her face against Hua Suihe’s, breathing in her scent, completely filtering out the disgusting scene created by the monsters.

Right, Hua Hua wouldn’t be able to stand the smell.

Ye Susheng thought about conjuring a mask for Hua Suihe to wear, but the moment her grip loosened slightly, Hua Suihe grabbed her. Hua Hua’s nervous voice rang in her ear, “Don’t let go, I’m scared.”

“I won’t let go, I won’t let go~”

She really loved Hua Hua!

Who needed a mask? It was better to just wrap her up like a cocoon. A small space for just the two of them was best.
