Hua Suihe pulled out the beef jerky she wanted from her bag, took a piece, and popped it into her mouth.

“Let’s go. Ye, do you know if there’s a big shopping mall nearby?”

“Hua Hua.” Ye Susheng picked up her backpack and asked, puzzled, “It’s so heavy – are these all my snacks?”

Hua Suihe paused. “It’s money.”

They exchanged glances. Su Sheng cleared her throat. “I’ll take Hua Hua to get a bank account and deposit the money first. There’s a bank right next door.”

“I don’t have an ID card,” Hua Suihe suddenly remembered that she was undocumented in the game world.

[Instance ‘Rose Manor’ is about to open. Player: Hua Suihe (nicknamed Hua Hua). Level: 3. Leveling up will unlock certain gift reward functions in the livestream room. Task: Each day, put gloves on butler Su Sheng. Please complete the task actively. An extra dropped player ID card has been issued to the player’s backpack.]

Hua Suihe was already used to the sound of the game system assigning tasks, but she still doubted that an ID card had really been issued. She swung her backpack to the front, unzipped it, and reached inside.

She actually pulled out an ID card – one had actually been issued?

Hua Suihe turned it over in her hands several times. It looked a bit different from a real-world ID card.

“It’s Hua Hua’s ID card,” Su Sheng personally confirmed.

They went to the nearby bank to open a bank account. The backpack instantly became much lighter, with only Su Sheng’s favorite snacks left. So the pink long-eared bunny plush hopped onto Ye Susheng’s back, completely clashing with her outfit, but she didn’t care at all.

This area was quite deserted, with barely anyone on the street. Hua Suihe ate a small bun as she walked, and the two of them reached a subway entrance.

Hua Suihe tossed the wrapper into the trash. “Finally found a subway station. Let’s take the subway to the city center, Ye.”

Ye Susheng looked up at the faded, unlit sign above the entrance: ‘Yu Sheng Station Entrance A.’

This subway entrance had been abandoned for a long time.

After the Yu Sheng Troupe settled here, all the subway security staff became Anomalies. No humans dared use this subway anymore, and the whole subway line had, in a sense, become a ghost train.

The escalators at the station had long since stopped working and there was no power, so Hua Suihe and Ye Susheng had to walk down the stairs.

Hua Suihe pinched her nose and complained, “It’s so deserted here.”

Reaching the lowest level, a cold, damp feeling hit them, accompanied by a musty smell. The subway lighting was poor – so dim that it almost strained the eyes.

If she hadn’t seen the security staff in uniform still guarding the security checkpoint, she would have thought this subway entrance was completely closed.

Ye Susheng took Hua Suihe to get a subway card, swiped it at the security check, and they went to wait for the train.

Hua Suihe rubbed her arms, trying to warm herself.

It was her first time riding an empty subway – she finally experienced what it was like to have the whole train at a five-yuan fare.

Hua Suihe sat close to Su Sheng, pulling Su Sheng’s large skirt over her own legs. “Ye, is there really never anyone else on this subway?”

“Sometimes, but not every day.” The subway escape instance had just started before Hua Hua arrived, and it was on this very train.

“Ye, I had a nightmare last night.”

Ye Susheng’s fingers, intertwined with Hua Suihe’s, suddenly tightened. She licked her lips lightly, her red eyes flickering. “Hua Hua, do you remember what you dreamed about?”

“Until the horror fully descends…” Hua Suihe blurted out, but couldn’t recall anything else from the dream, or even where that sentence came from.

Unable to remember, Hua Suihe shook her head. “Never mind, it’s better not to remember nightmares.”

Su Sheng reached out to hug her, pulling her into her arms and hiding the turmoil in her eyes, doing her best to sound relaxed. “Right, it’s better not to remember nightmares.”
Arriving at a relatively bustling area by subway.

At last, Hua Suihe (nicknamed Hua Hua) saw people outside the boundaries set by the game instance-people of all kinds: elite women in suits, serious men with briefcases, young men and women outside the milk tea shop…

This kind of normal social circle was something Hua Suihe hadn’t seen for over a month.

Hua Suihe immediately ordered two cups of milk tea for herself and Ye Susheng. The prices outside weren’t as high as at school-just a hundred yuan for two cups.

After placing the order, the shop assistant handed her the receipt with a smile and asked, “Are you drinking alone, beauty?”

Hua Suihe boasted right away, “No, the prettiest one behind me is my girlfriend. I’m sharing one cup with my girlfriend.”

The shop assistant glanced behind her-no one was following-but she wasn’t the gossipy type. She handed over the receipt and went back to prepare the milk tea.

When the milk tea was ready, Hua Suihe thanked her and turned around with two cups in hand.

Ye Susheng pursed her red lips, her big crimson eyes blinking innocently as she stood there, looking so pitiful.

Hua Suihe handed one cup to her. “Here, a sweet drink, try it~”

Ye Susheng took the milk tea, mimicking Hua Suihe’s motion to poke in the straw, slurped a tapioca pearl, swallowed it all at once, and happily said, “Thank you, Hua Hua!”

The shop assistant watched Hua Suihe talking to thin air, and the milk tea she handed forward disappeared instantly. She was terrified.

She kept up with the news, and the horror hadn’t spread to this area yet-how could there be ghosts in broad daylight!

Hua Suihe was oblivious to all this. Spotting a phone shop, she grabbed Ye Susheng’s hand and walked in excitedly, but her excitement faded instantly when she saw the prices.

“Wow, thirty thousand yuan for a phone.” It would drain her bank balance and still not be enough for a dress.

She still wanted to buy Ye Susheng a gift, so she decisively gave up and pulled Ye Susheng out of the shop.

“Hua Hua, do you want a phone? You can use my card.” Ye Susheng obediently offered her bank card with both hands, looking very cool.

But Hua Suihe had seen her balance at the bank that morning-after years of working, she only had a hundred thousand saved up. Hua Suihe nearly fainted from heartache.

Ye Susheng worked for the Yu Sheng Troupe every day, suffering through exhaustion and all-nighters, working harder than any laborer, yet her salary was so low.

Just because Ye Susheng was forcibly bound to the troupe-unable to resign or skip work-they dared to treat her this way.

Hua Suihe was angry but couldn’t tell Ye Susheng. She was afraid that if Ye Susheng realized she was cheap labor, she’d have to keep working, which would be so hopeless. Life still needed some hope.

At least, for now, Ye Susheng hadn’t realized her salary was low, and she was still happy at work.

“Ye, don’t worry. With me here, you won’t always have to live a hard life.”

Ye Susheng didn’t know what she was thinking. Seeing Hua Suihe refuse her money, she thought Hua Suihe didn’t want to use her money, and her mood instantly dropped, her expression wilting.

Hua Suihe pulled Ye Susheng into a shop specializing in electronic watches.

She carefully picked out a pair of matching electronic wristbands, getting them at a discounted price of twenty-five thousand.

One black, one white-the black one fit perfectly over Ye Susheng’s lace gloves without looking out of place.

“These are electronic wristbands. I’ll teach you how to use them when we get home. From now on, we can call each other, so we won’t have to wait at the same spot and worry about not finding each other.”

She kept one for herself and bought one for Ye Susheng.
