My Boyfriend Tops the Horror Game Rankings—and I'm the Ghost in His Dungeon - Chapter 1
My name is Xia An’an.
I have an incredibly powerful boyfriend. He ranks first among all players in the Horror Game. Say his name and there is hardly a player—or monster—who has not heard of him. Even the most terrifying bosses in SSS-rank dungeons fear him.
Once, curiosity got the better of me.
“Su Yan, are you really that good?”
He was cooking at the time. In answer, he showed me his exquisite knife work, slicing a large potato into sheets so thin they were almost transparent.
I had just opened my mouth to marvel when he swept me into his arms and carried me to the bedroom.
The muscular man bit through my lace shoulder strap and brushed against a particularly sensitive spot.
“You tell me, baby. Am I good?”
“Th-that’s not what I meant!”
Mortified, I tried to kick him. He caught my leg, pulled me in, and kissed me.
After that, everything got completely out of hand. He did not let me go until I had praised him over and over.
My legs were still trembling when I finally left the bedroom. Su Yan only smiled, pecked at the corner of my mouth as though he still had not kissed me enough, and went back to cooking as if nothing had happened.
He also washed the sheets, changed the cat litter, watered the plants, and mopped every room.
The house was always spotless when he was around. It was impossible to stay angry with him.
Su Yan was shameless, I decided.
But he was also…
admittedly very good.
People often offered fortunes to hire him for dungeon runs, addressing him as “Boss” with every other breath. Whether he accepted never depended on the money. He only did whatever suited his mood.
I, on the other hand, was a coward.
I had once entered a dungeon as a player and been badly frightened. After that, Su Yan refused to let me go into another horror dungeon.
What he did not know was that I had secretly spent the past two months working inside the Horror Game as a monster NPC.
Su Yan, as the top-ranked player, only entered SSS-rank dungeons. The dungeon where I worked was beginner tier. The gap between them was so enormous that our paths could never cross, so I was not worried about him discovering me.
Watching the Terror Coins pile up in my account made me very happy.
Beginner-tier horror dungeons were not nearly as frightening as I had imagined. Every day, I played a story NPC who offered clues. When necessary, I scared the players a little. They were all newcomers, and I had even frightened a few of them unconscious.
Clearly, I was much better suited to being an NPC than a player.
I thought that peaceful life would continue forever.
Then the system announced:
“Monster NPC numbers in an SSS-rank dungeon have reached a critical low. Substitute NPCs will now be transferred from other dungeons.”
Unfortunately, I was selected.
The split-mouth doll chosen alongside me leaped up in fury.
“I’m not going to an SSS-rank dungeon! I’m just an innocent doll who happens to eat people!”
“The players there are terrifying! I can’t beat them. They’ll tear me apart!”
I was in an even worse position.
I did not know how to eat people at all. My only ability was making my hair grow longer.
The instant we arrived in the SSS-rank dungeon, I understood how vast the difference between dungeon ranks truly was.
My old dungeon had been a small town. During the day, it bustled like any normal place. I played a flower seller who gave players clues. Only at night would I become the vengeful ghost of a murdered girl and wander the streets, frightening players as the story required.
The town was scary only after dark.
This SSS-rank dungeon was different. The sky was gray from the moment we arrived, neither day nor night. Overgrown trees formed layer upon layer of cover. Low, muffled roars drifted from far away, giving no clue what dangers lay in wait.
The split-mouth doll jumped straight into my arms.
“It’s terrifying! I want to go home!”
“Don’t be scared, Bunny,” I comforted it. “We’re the monsters. The players should be afraid of us.”
Truthfully, I was nervous too. I prayed I would not run into Su Yan.
If he learned that I had secretly entered the Horror Game without telling him, he would be furious. The last time I made him angry, I had not managed to leave the bed for five whole days.
And all those dense clusters of kiss marks…
I shook my head hard.
The split-mouth doll and I were only here to make up the numbers. The dungeon’s native SSS-rank monsters would do the real fighting.
As long as I was careful, Su Yan would never discover that I had secretly been working as a monster NPC.
