The aberration churned the sea into a frenzy.

One sweep of its tentacles sent every member of my team crashing beneath the waves, unable to move.

I reacted fast, hauling one of the male leads back up. Before I could find my footing, something cold and slick coiled around my ankle.

I was yanked into the air.

Tentacles writhed around me, eagerly forcing their way through my collar. My skintight combat suit couldn’t withstand them. The fabric split apart.

Humiliated and furious, I raised my machete, only for a tentacle to snatch it away as if the creature had known what I would do before I did it.

Another tentacle locked tight around the tops of my thighs.

Red eyes flashed as the aberration slowly leaned closer.

“Mm… wuksbfalla.”

Its strange cadence meant nothing to me.

The cold, slippery tentacle kept climbing. Just before it reached that place, I twisted my wrist, drew my butterfly knife, and sliced through it.

The aberration narrowed its eyes and started babbling again.

Gritting my teeth, I kicked it squarely on top of the head and flipped backward into the sea.

My teammates rushed over. The aberration cocked its head and stared straight at me. Then it tossed a devil ray my way and vanished into the deep.

The moment it disappeared, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

One of the newer team members looked baffled. “Is it just me, or does that aberration really like Brother Zhou?”

“It beats the rest of us half to death, but with Brother Zhou, it’s practically flirting.”

I smacked the speaker on the head. “It almost ate me. What part of that looked like flirting?”

They laughed and begged for mercy.

The other male lead had the unconscious one on his back. He glanced at me. “You’re not coming back to base?”

I shook my head. “No. Call me the next time the aberration appears.”

The rookie still didn’t understand. “Where are you going, Brother Zhou?”

I cleaned the devil ray in a few quick strokes, dropped it into a small bucket, and waved without looking back. “Home. My husband and kids are waiting.”

The moment I stepped through the door, an androgynously beautiful man with long hair came to meet me.

He was taller than I was, yet he flung himself into my arms like a delicate little bird.

“Gege, you’re finally home.”

I ruffled Arno’s hair with a smile. “I brought something back this time. A devil ray.”

I set down the bucket and caught the thighs he had wrapped around my waist. Then I buried my face in his neck and inhaled deeply.

“You smell amazing. Arno, we use the same body wash, so why do you smell better than I do?”

I took another greedy breath at his neck.

Arno let me do as I pleased. When I finally lifted my head, he leaned in, his beautiful, ambiguous features perfectly obedient.

“Does Gege want more?”

“No.” I patted his rear, telling him to get down.

Arno wilted unhappily and clung to the hem of my shirt, following at my heels.

As I stripped off my combat gear, I asked, “I’m taking a shower. Percy and Avery aren’t back yet?”

Arno picked up the clothes from the floor and draped them over his arm, every inch the dutiful spouse.

“I don’t know. Gege, can I shower with you?”

I hardened my heart and shook my head.

There was only one reason: I couldn’t let Arno see all these injuries. Otherwise, those pretty tears would start falling again.

Unfortunately, he squeezed into the bathroom halfway through anyway.

“Gege…”

I turned around. Sure enough, my baby’s eyes were red.

He stared at the welts the tentacles had left across my body, heartbroken. Bending close, he pursed his vivid lips and blew softly over them, trying to blow away the pain.

He had no idea what that warm breath did to me. My entire body drew taut.

“Was it the monster again, Gege?”

I cradled his face and kissed away his tears. “Yeah, but it’s fine. They’re only little injuries. They’ll heal in a few days.”

Arno knew I belonged to the Aberration Reconnaissance and Elimination Squad. He also knew that whenever an aberration appeared, I had to go out on a mission.

Yet he had always supported me.

Sometimes a mission kept me away for half a month. Arno would stay home, take care of our two children, and wait obediently for me to return.

“That’s awful. That monster is awful! How could it do this to Gege?”

Anger brought his exquisite face vividly to life. He had just been crying, and the red at the corners of his eyes looked like the cinnabar mark branded onto a lover’s heart.

Heat rose without warning, spreading from my chest down into my belly.

I pressed him against the wall, my voice hoarse. “You’re right, baby. That monster went too far.”

“Be good. Open your mouth and let Gege kiss you.”

We had shared a bed for four years. We even had two children.

Arno knew my body better than I did.

He understood at once. Lowering his head, he opened his mouth and obediently let me kiss him.

I was the one who had started it, yet he kissed all the strength out of me.

As my gaze blurred, Arno swept back my hair and kissed my brow and eyes. Then he bent down.

One hand twisted in his silky hair while the other pressed over my mouth.

Steam clouded the glass door, gathering into droplets that ran down its surface.

Onto the floor.

Onto Arno’s face.

Even when it was over, I still wanted more.

But Arno had very little stamina. Weariness showed in his delicate, handsome features.

So I had no choice but to push him down and take care of the rest myself.

After I had eaten my fill, washed up, and collapsed into bed, Arno tucked the blanket around me.

“Sleep, Gege. I’ll make dinner for Percy and Avery. Don’t worry. Just sleep.”

A kiss landed on my forehead.

As consciousness slipped away, I heard his last murmur.

“Sleep, my darling husband. Sweet dreams.”
