My Nonhuman Husband Is Possessive - Chapter 1
When Jiang Yan came striding over with a knife, I was on the Bridge of Forgetfulness, being chatted up by a young ghost I’d met by the roadside.
I had always been an honest woman—wooden, slow, and hopeless with words. This ghost called Linlin had started calling me “pretty lady” with every breath, and my head was already spinning.
“Say something, pretty lady. Are you going to marry me or not?”
“That way, we’ll have each other for company on the road to the Yellow Springs.”
Marry him?
I shook my head. I was just about to explain that I was already married. My husband was very handsome—more handsome than this little brother, even.
Then I looked up and saw Jiang Yan’s cold, striking face.
The nonhuman husband I’d spent three years trying to win over stood there, staring without expression.
No.
More precisely, he was staring at the young ghost behind me.
He gave a faint smile. “So you’re the homewrecker who’s been seducing my wife?”
Their eyes met.
The young ghost shrieked and ran.
Huh?
I alone stood frozen, my eyes round.
What was Jiang Yan doing here? Wasn’t this the underworld?
Behind him, the King of Hell clung to the broken gates and wailed.
“Brother, can’t we talk this out? Why did you have to kick down my gates?”
“The economy is terrible. Where am I supposed to find enough hell money to fix them?”
Jiang Yan ignored everyone. He strode straight toward me on his long legs.
“Baby, why did you leave me?”
Cold fingers lifted my chin. They felt nothing like their usual warmth.
Goose bumps rose across my skin, and my lashes trembled. Taking in my husband’s handsome, deathly pale face and his inhumanly cold body, I finally made the horrifying discovery.
Jiang Yan was dead?
An alien had died?
The King of Hell was just as shocked.
Three years ago, the underworld had detected that the outsider Jiang Yan harbored an intense loathing for humanity. To keep his kind from destroying Earth and making the already overcrowded underworld even worse, the King of Hell had specially sent me back to the mortal realm to win over this nonhuman villain.
But after three years, Jiang Yan’s affection score for me was still zero. I had failed to change his hatred of humans, so the King of Hell had taken me back.
No one expected Jiang Yan to follow right on my heels.
The King of Hell frantically flipped open the Book of Life and Death.
Deceased: Jiang Yan.
Cause of death: Dreamed his wife was being seduced in the underworld and died of rage.
He went rigid, then sent me a telepathic message with horror all over his face.
I sighed in understanding. “My lord, I told you. My husband has a terrible temper!”
Before the King of Hell took me away after my failed mission, I had begged him to give me two more days so I could explain everything to Jiang Yan before leaving.
He refused and brushed off my concern.
“What’s there to explain? You aren’t even in his heart.”
I hesitated. “But… his temper really is terrible!”
The King of Hell had scoffed. “So what? Is he going to come looking for you in the underworld?”
Well.
He had spoken it into existence.
Jiang Yan really had come down here.
“He dreamed someone was seducing you, and he literally died of anger in his sleep?” The King of Hell sounded incredulous. “Him? A lawless nonhuman whose hyper-advanced body wouldn’t take a scratch from an AK-47? You made him die of rage?”
I nodded gravely and shot a glance at Jiang Yan, who was watching me from nearby.
“Yes, my lord. My husband truly has an enormous temper!”
To make my claim more convincing, I furnished example after example.
For instance, he got angry if I wouldn’t let him comb my hair and wash my face after I woke up.
He got angry if I didn’t spend the million-yuan allowance on the supplementary card he gave me.
He got angry if I threw away my leftovers instead of letting him finish them.
He even got angry if I forgot our obligatory good-morning or good-night kiss.
When I finished, the King of Hell gave us an odd look, his gaze darting back and forth.
“Are you sure that’s a bad temper?”
“Of course!” I nodded like a pecking chick. “We’ve been married for three years. Don’t I know him? Now I’ve suddenly started a long-distance marriage without saying a word. Of course he’s angry!”
The mortal realm and the underworld were different places. Surely that counted as long-distance.
Off to the side, Black and White Impermanence exchanged looks and began whispering.
“Isn’t this creepy nonhuman a little too possessive?”
“Good grief. He followed her all the way to the underworld for love? That type actually scares me.”
“Boo-hoo, me too!”
The King of Hell flicked each ghost on the forehead.
“You just had to tempt fate, didn’t you?”
He turned, about to say something else to me, when Jiang Yan’s timer watch chimed.
“Your three minutes of conversation are over.”
He looked up. His placid gaze settled on the hand the King of Hell had placed on my shoulder.
“What are you planning to do to my wife’s shoulder?”
The facts proved that my husband’s terrifying reputation preceded him. He was an immensely powerful super-terrorist.
Fearing for the safety of the underworld, the King of Hell broke out in a cold sweat and repeatedly denied any untoward intention. Then he kicked both of us back into the mortal realm.
“Shi Xiaxia, change of plans. Keep working on him!”
