Chapter 2

White Octopus and I became famous together.

Because of the live footage of a human fighting an octopus, I became an overnight sensation. After all, among beachcombing bloggers, there was no one as fierce as me.

People affectionately called me Wanzi, and the duo of White Octopus and me became the Octopus Meatball Duo.

For some reason, the Octopus also gained a following. Every day at 8 a.m., people would squat in my livestream channel, waiting to see my White Octopus.

I simply converted a room in my small villa into a large fish tank.

Now I don’t need to do outdoor livestreams. I just wake up at eight, turn on the livestream and lights in the Octopus room, and that’s it.

The Octopus seemed to know what I was up to, and every day it worked hard to perform in front of the camera.

Stuff like Octopus eating small fish, Octopus spinning in circles, Octopus doing sit-ups. Its tentacles are very long, and sometimes it would reach out of the tank to adjust the camera.

The comment section would often be flooded with a passing “666”.

The Octopus was working so hard, and then I slacked off. My daily tasks were just changing water, changing fish, and buying groceries for my Master Octopus.

Occasionally I’d play with the master for a while. The master’s entertainment was simple: just reach out and tease it, or occasionally press its tentacles.

I had to play with it for two hours every day, usually around 3 p.m. If I didn’t, it would go on strike.

After livestreaming like that for a month, the fans couldn’t stand it anymore.

They scolded me, saying that in the past people lived off the mountains, but now I was living off my Octopus.

They told me to find something to do and stop riding on the Octopus’s traffic.

I was like, hey, it’s still my Octopus after all. The fans then negotiated with me, suggesting I give the Octopus more tentacle massages.

So every day I continued massaging my Octopus’s tentacles. The pure white tentacles were soft.

When it was comfortable from the massage, it would grip my wrist and swirl around in the water.

If it wasn’t comfortable, the little Octopus would slap my wrist with a tentacle.

It didn’t hurt; rather, it felt cool.

Looking at it, I suddenly recalled that time on the beach, how it was probably hurt by a fishing trap.

As I massaged its tentacles, I couldn’t help but say, “You hit me before.”

A little Octopus can’t talk, so when I turned to leave, it wrapped its tentacle around my hand.

So silly, like a clumsy little pet.

When I came back, that little tentacle circled around me and finally landed on my cheek, soft, cool, pressing there.

It was like an extremely awkward apology.

Chapter 3

After more than half a month, I had rested enough, so I went out again for another outdoor livestream.

This time it was serious beachcombing, no surprise catches. I just gathered some shells.

With my loyal fans, the income wasn’t as good as White Octopus’s talent show, but it was decent.

After a busy day, I picked up over half a bucket of shells and a few small fish.

In the evening, I fried the shells and fish-one portion for me, one for the little Octopus.

The little Octopus ate the shellfish meat, then fiddled with the shells, looking at them from every angle, and finally arranged them into a shell tower on the table.

It piled them high in front of it, then glanced at me and handed me the prettiest one.

Having a pet felt pretty nice.

Xiaobai was getting more and more popular. Oh! Xiaobai is my Octopus.

Lately, it’s been eating spicy crawfish during the livestream, attracting a new batch of viewers.

For a time, its popularity soared again. And Xiaobai was quite a glutton, a big Octopus.

Whenever it saw me eating something, it had to have a taste. Later it even stole a large chunk of ice and almost froze itself to death.

Such character.

But its fans kept growing.

So much so that someone offered a huge sum to buy this Octopus.

Someone offered a million. I fell silent. Late at night, I stared at the offer, unable to sleep.

I went out to look at it. At night it slept soundly, the whole Octopus lying on a rock, covered with a piece of kelp.

After watching for a long time, it made me laugh.

In the end, I sighed and still refused that person’s offer.
