My Snake - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
What kind of offspring would a human and a snake produce?
Am I more human, or am I more snake?
I was so absorbed in chewing on my finger that I didn’t notice Qin Zhi had finished his shower and come out.
He suddenly pinned me down beneath him, his fingers lacing tightly through mine.
“What’s on your mind that’s bothering you so much?”
My eyes widened. “How did you know I was bothered?”
Qin Zhi lifted my hand and kissed my index finger. “Tell me. What is it?”
I opened my mouth, the words catching in my throat.
Should I tell him I’m pregnant first?
Or should I tell him I’m actually a Little White Snake first?
Forget it.
I’ll start by confessing my identity.
“Um, Qin Zhi, actually, I…”
The words choked me up before I could finish.
I suddenly remembered that many humans are terrified of snakes.
Take Qin Zhi’s assistant, for example.
Even seeing a picture of a snake makes him jump in fright.
I thought about it for a moment.
Changing my approach, I decided to test the waters. “Ahem, what I mean is, would you ever want to keep a Pet Snake? I was scrolling through short videos recently and saw that some snakes are actually really cute.”
Qin Zhi paused, momentarily stunned.
Then he shook his head, his voice dripping with disgust. “No. Creatures like snakes are cold-blooded and revolting.”
He let go of me and turned his back to look at the moon outside the window.
“If it were up to me, I’d wish snakes didn’t even exist in this world.”
My body stiffened, and I frantically pulled my hand back.
“Oh… I see. Okay, I get it.
“Let’s sleep. Goodnight.”
I hurried to turn off the bedside lamp.
I was terrified that if I waited even a second longer, Qin Zhi would notice my tears.
The moon tonight was so bright and round.
But aside from the moon, there wasn’t a single star in the sky.
I stared at the pitch-black ceiling for I don’t know how long.
Qin Zhi had his arm around my waist.
I could hear his steady breathing behind my ear.
He was asleep.
I couldn’t sleep.
My chest felt tight and heavy.
Would I be kicked out onto the street by Qin Zhi, just like in those TV dramas?
Sob.
That’s so scary.
I’m never watching TV dramas again.
It’s all their fault.
If I hadn’t watched so many dramas, I never would have met Qin Zhi in the first place.
Whatever.
Rather than waiting for him to eventually hate me…
I might as well leave on my own tomorrow morning.
I quietly moved his arm aside.
I crawled out of bed to pack my bags.
The snacks Qin Zhi bought me-take them.
The throw pillow Qin Zhi bought me-take it.
The game console Qin Zhi bought me-take it.
As for Qin Zhi himself…
I took one last look at him while he was still fast asleep.
Silent as a shadow, I closed the bedroom door.
Goodbye, Qin Zhi.
If all goes as planned, we’ll never see each other again.
