Police Station.

When Shen Que arrived, Meng Zhiyi was already eating barbecue.

Meng Yanchuan sat across from her, arms folded, looking at Meng Zhiyi-who was gnawing on a chicken drumstick-with a complicated expression.

Although Meng Zhiyi had already been cleared of suspicion, Meng Yanchuan, who could hear inner thoughts, had a bit of a headache.

He never would have imagined that his delicate and gentle-looking younger sister could actually send a six-foot-tall boy to the hospital.

Yet he couldn’t just ask her outright.

At that moment, Shen Que’s figure appeared at the door.

A fine sheen of sweat covered his forehead, and his gaze landed on Meng Zhiyi first.

“You’re here.” Meng Zhiyi, holding a chicken drumstick, looked at him with a cheerful smile.

Shen Que caught his breath, and after composing himself, walked in.

He asked, “Did Zhou Kai cause you trouble again?”

Because the police hadn’t said much over the phone-only mentioning that Zhou Kai was hospitalized-

Upon receiving the call, Shen Que had rushed over immediately, worried that maybe, after he’d left early that day, no one had been there to look after her, which led to Zhou Kai finding her.

Seeing Meng Zhiyi was safe, Shen Que unconsciously breathed a sigh of relief.

“No, I haven’t seen him since you warned him that day.” Meng Zhiyi’s eyes sparkled as she looked at Shen Que.

Meng Yanchuan secretly shook his head, thinking his little sister could become an actress.

Upon hearing this, Shen Que relaxed and then noticed Meng Yanchuan sitting nearby.

“Third Brother,” he greeted.

Meng Yanchuan nodded in response.

“I’ll go talk to the police first, then come back in a bit.”

After saying this, Shen Que glanced at the barbecue on the table before heading out.

Not long after, Shen Que returned with a bottle of soda water, sitting down on the stool next to Meng Zhiyi.

He naturally placed the water in front of Meng Zhiyi, then said calmly, “I’ve explained everything to the police. This matter has nothing to do with you.”

“Thank you, Brother Shen Que.” Meng Zhiyi squinted her eyes in a smile, and as she twisted open the bottle cap, she noticed how easy it was and immediately thought of something.

A meaningful look flashed in her eyes, and she handed over a skewer of beef: “Here, have some.”

Shen Que shook his head. “I don’t eat these things.”

“…”

Meng Zhiyi pouted and had to enjoy it herself.

[As expected of the male lead, such self-control. No wonder no matter how Song Wei tried to flirt with him in the early stages, he was as unmovable as a monk with no desires.]

[But it’s useless-no matter how good he is, he still ended up being completely taken by Song Wei, who even put a green hat on him.]

[I always find it hilarious when I think about it.]

Meng Yanchuan raised his eyebrows, looking at Shen Que with great interest.

Although Meng Zhiyi’s inner thoughts could be noisy at times, getting such juicy gossip was quite enjoyable.

Shen Que looked at the siblings with an unchanged expression, once again confirming that Meng Yanchuan could also hear inner thoughts.

No matter whether what Meng Zhiyi said in her inner thoughts was true or not, Shen Que always had the illusion of being utterly exposed in front of these siblings.

To stop Meng Zhiyi from saying anything more outrageous, Shen Que quickly said, “It’s getting late. I’ll take you back to school.”

After speaking, he glanced at Meng Yanchuan and continued, “Third Brother, you probably still have work to do?”

Meng Yanchuan nodded. “Mm, I have some work to finish. Sorry to trouble you.”

“But I haven’t finished eating yet,” Meng Zhiyi said, pointing at the barbecue on the table.

Shen Que: “Take it with you and eat in the car.”

“Huh?”
Meng Zhiyi looked at Shen Que in surprise.

She remembered from the information imported by the System that Shen Que had a mild case of mysophobia-not just anyone could ride in his car, let alone eat in it.

[Something’s off, very off.]

[Even when Shen Que and Song Wei were at their closest, he never let her eat in his car. Why is he making an exception today?]

[Could there be an ambush in the car?]

Having traveled through many worlds, Meng Zhiyi had seen a lot. She was always cautious when it came to abnormal situations like this.

Meng Yanchuan was almost amused by her inner thoughts. Worried that he might give himself away if he couldn’t hold back his laughter, he quickly stood up. “I have things to do. You should go back to school with Shen Que.”

With that, he left in a hurry, not giving Meng Zhiyi any chance to stop him.

Shen Que said, “Let’s go.”

Meng Zhiyi had no choice but to pick up her unfinished skewers and trot after Shen Que.

When they reached the car, she naturally stood by the rear door, waiting.

“Sit in the front.” Shen Que opened the passenger door and gestured for her to get in.

Meng Zhiyi hesitated on the spot.

[I’m not sitting in the front seat. That’s the spot with the highest fatality rate in car accidents.]

[This guy definitely has ulterior motives!]

Shen Que took a deep breath and said patiently, “Sit in the front. I have something to talk to you about.”

Meng Zhiyi replied, “I can hear you just fine from the back. I’m not deaf.”

For a moment, the two fell into silence.

The atmosphere grew tense, and seeing that Meng Zhiyi had no intention of compromising, Shen Que was the first to give in.

“Suit yourself, then.” With that, he closed the passenger door and came over to open the rear door for her.

Meng Zhiyi said nothing, quietly watching him.

[Gentlemanly, passes the character test.]

[Song Wei really lucked out with this one.]

Shen Que was already used to her chaotic inner monologue and ignored it, turning to take the driver’s seat.

The car cruised smoothly down the road. From time to time, Shen Que glanced at Meng Zhiyi through the rearview mirror.

Seeing that she’d finished her skewers, he thoughtfully pointed out where the tissues were, and where the car fridge was, along with what drinks were inside.

Meng Zhiyi was happy to enjoy the hospitality. When she opened the car fridge, she found a few bottles of Coke and a bottle of soda water left inside.

Without a second thought, she grabbed the soda water and reminded Shen Que, “You should cut down on carbonated drinks. Otherwise, when you’re old, you’ll be stuck in a wheelchair watching your wife and other old men dance in the square.”

“Those weren’t put there by me,” Shen Que explained.

“Oh,” Meng Zhiyi replied carelessly, then added, “I know, Song Wei put them there, right?”

As soon as she finished speaking, the car suddenly braked hard.

Meng Zhiyi quickly grabbed the back of the seat. “What happened, did you hit someone?”

Shen Que gripped the steering wheel tightly, turning to fix Meng Zhiyi with a deep gaze. “Let me say this again: there’s nothing between me and Song Wei.”

Meng Zhiyi glanced ahead and, seeing they were just waiting at a red light, finally sat back properly. “There’s nothing now, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be in the future.”

“Don’t you think so?”

[Anyway, you and Song Wei are the main CP. You’ll end up together in the end.]

Shen Que closed his eyes for a moment, restarted the car, and just when Meng Zhiyi thought he wouldn’t say anything else, his clear, gentle voice sounded again.

“You’re right. When it comes to feelings, you might not feel anything now, but maybe you will in the future.”

“Meng Zhiyi, I won’t break off the engagement, and I’ll try to get to know you.”

“What?” Meng Zhiyi’s eyes widened. “What did you just say?”
