My Wife Got Better. My Life Got Worse. - Chapter 1
My wife was sitting on me when I first noticed something was wrong.
She suddenly froze, staring into empty air. Shock filled her eyes, then fear.
Before I could ask what was wrong, she scrambled off me. “I’m… a little tired. Not tonight.”
I wanted nothing more than to be close to her, but my wife liked me reserved.
I took a deep breath and did my best to look like a composed, commanding CEO. “What’s wrong?”
As I spoke, I let my fingertips brush her waist as if by accident.
“Bad mood?
“Want to slap my face for fun?”
Instead, she pushed me away in a panic. “No, I’m not in a bad mood. Work’s just been busy…”
I frowned. I’d opened that company for her to play with. Who was being so inconsiderate?
As she was about to lie down, I got up, opened the wardrobe, and found the black lace outfit she’d bought most recently. Putting on a sweet, coaxing voice, I asked:
“Honey, how do I put this thing you bought me on?”
Something definitely flickered in her eyes.
But before I could even smile, she lowered her gaze. “You don’t have to wear it.
“Go to sleep. I’m not in the mood tonight.”
Then she turned her back, wrapped herself in the covers, and went to sleep, leaving me standing there with the outfit in my hand.
Over the next few days, she stopped asking me to carry her to the bathroom to wash up. Stopped pestering me for good-morning and good-night kisses. She wasn’t even buying handbags anymore…
But my abs were firm, my chest was well developed, and everything was exactly how she liked it. How could she have lost interest?
Had some bastard with a death wish been seducing my wife?
Then I remembered a phone call she’d taken behind my back a couple of days earlier.
Blood rushed to my head. Once she was asleep, I grabbed my phone and went into the living room to call my assistant, Wang, keeping my voice low.
“Get the private investigator on it.
“Find out where my wife’s been and who she’s seen. I want everything on that bastard by morning.”
I was furious enough to bite someone, but my wife couldn’t know.
After a moment’s thought, I rummaged through my bag and found a little panda figurine the restaurant had given me at lunch.
I hid the post from my wife, took a picture, and put it on my social feed:
[Stop messaging me to ask where I got this. My wife gave it to me. She makes me carry it.]
Hmph. I didn’t know who the bastard was, but what if he was on my friends list?
After all, everyone there knew I’d won my wife away from a friend through sheer superior ability.
What if some shameless idiot wanted to follow my example and take my place?
Wang was excellent at his job.
I’d barely arrived at work when he sent over a file on the suspected bastard.
“Sir, he’s an intern at your wife’s company. Zhou Ran, twenty-two. Whenever she goes out to buy supplies, he goes with her.”
“He’s good-looking, rides a motorcycle, and goes rock climbing, so he’s picked up a following of women online.
“He also sings part-time at a bar. Your wife has even sent him gifts on his livestream…”
Good-looking?
I clenched my hand and tossed his file onto the desk. “He’s nothing special.
“That said, could cosmetic treatments achieve this sort of result?”
Wang paused for a second, then answered earnestly. “A facelift could make you look a few years younger.”
“Mm. Book one.”
