Pretty Fool's Battlefield - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Hee-hee.
See you tomorrow? See you tomorrow my foot!
I’d heard from other NPCs that while the monsters in the Morgue aren’t particularly strong, they carry corpse poison.
Once infected, no matter how powerful those two are, they’ll be dead within half an hour.
At the thought of sacrificing my Little Rubber Band just to save my own skin, I gritted my teeth and rubbed my aching waist where I’d been pinched, then pressed the button for the fifth floor.
I just took out two powerful Players for the Dean and even lost an item in the process. Surely he owes me some compensation, right?
I heard that the Dean of the psychiatric hospital used to be a Player himself.
Supposedly, he died in a dungeon while taking down a boss, only to somehow end up as the Dean.
I couldn’t care less about that, though. I reached the fifth floor and knocked on the door to the Dean’s Office.
“Dean, it’s Zhenzhen.”
A few seconds later, the door clicked and swung open automatically.
I offered a thin smile and pushed my way inside.
The Dean’s Office was dimly lit with a cold, white light. The Dean sat on a black leather sofa, wearing a half-mask. His long legs were crossed, and his pale, slender fingers tapped rhythmically against the armrest.
“What is it?”
His voice was raspy, and the eyes behind the mask were as cold and venomous as a viper’s.
Ignoring the chill, I squatted down piteously at his feet and hugged his leg, pouting as I began my grievance. “Dean, Zhenzhen helped you get rid of two troublesome Players, but I lost my Little Rubber Band.”
The Dean’s icy gaze fell upon my neck.
He reached out, his pale fingertips grazing my skin. “Did they touch you?”
I nodded, still pouting.
This definitely counts as a workplace injury!
Thinking back to that unlucky NPC uncle in Room 404 who was killed instantly by Wei Zhi, I couldn’t help but shiver.
I was almost killed too!
At that thought, I clung tighter to the Dean’s leg, my voice turning syrupy as I wailed, “Dean, sir, Zhenzhen almost died at the hands of those Players this time. You have to give me a raise, or at least some powerful items.”
I liked to think my acting was irresistible.
However, the Dean remained perched on the sofa, eyes narrowed as he looked down at me, completely unmoved.
I immediately deflated.
A sudden jolt went through my brain as I remembered an NPC once telling me that the Dean had been a very devoted man when he was alive-that he had died trying to save his girlfriend.
Goodness, is my memory getting worse? It’s one thing to forget everything about my own past life, but how could I forget that the Dean had a girlfriend?
I quickly let go of his leg and scrambled to my feet, apologizing profusely. “I’m sorry, Dean! I’ll go back and clean up the ward right now!”
The Dean gave a curt “Mm” and handed me a set of clothes. “Take this as compensation.”
[Pink Nurse Uniform: A new outfit gifted by the Dean! Wearing it allows you to resonate with the Dean! Simply put, if you are in danger, the Dean will be able to sense it~]
I stared wide-eyed at the nurse’s uniform in my hands.
This function was way too easy to misunderstand. Resonating with the Dean?
As far as I knew, the number of NPCs and Players who had died at his hands was countless. Even if I had ten thousand times my current courage, I wouldn’t dare resonate with a psycho like him…
My mouth twitched. After hesitating for a long time, I tried to hand the Pink Nurse Uniform back. “Dean, sir, this item doesn’t seem very useful to me. Can I trade it for something else?”
The Dean stared at me calmly, his dark eyes unreadable. “Go put it on.”
Me: Huh?
Is this right?
I looked at the thin, pink fabric in my hands, feeling lost for the first time.
Sensing my hesitation and reluctance, the Dean thinned his lips. “It’s a new item I obtained. I need someone to test its effects.”
Oh… so I’m just a tool for testing items.
I gave a reluctant nod and went into the adjacent lounge to change.
