Chapter 1

The day the female lead, Jiang Li, appeared,

I was in the middle of figuring out how to break up with Shen Lihui.

There was no particular reason.

The guy was just a little too absurd.

During my second month of dating Shen Lihui, I still thought he was just an ordinary broke college student.

After all, on our first date, he took a phone call, and I heard him call the person on the other end “Second Sister” with my own ears.

Alarm bells instantly went off in my head. When he finished the call and came back, I asked, pretending to be casual,

“You’re not an only child?”

“No.”

“Then how many kids do your parents have?”

“Six. I’m the sixth.”

Six!

I nearly screamed.

Was he one of those precious sons they kept trying for until they finally got a boy?

I lost all interest in eating with him. After picking at two pieces of pork rib, I pretended to answer an alarm I’d set and got ready to leave. “Your bowl was thirty-eight.”

“Just send it to me on WeChat later.”

I had just stood up and taken one step when someone tugged on the hem of my skirt.

“Do you have something urgent? Do you need me to take you?”

“My best friend got into a car accident, I have to…”

I turned around, lowered my eyes, and saw a face so beautiful under the lights that it was almost dazzling.

A high, straight nose. Sharp brow bones. Beneath them, a pair of peach-blossom eyes with lifted outer corners.

The lights in the little noodle shop swayed in his eyes like someone had scattered a handful of stars inside them.

I sat back down.

“Never mind. Let’s eat.”

So what if he was the long-awaited precious son?

With a face like that, it was just dating.

It wasn’t like I planned to marry him.

Because Shen Lihui was so good-looking, I tolerated a lot of things from him.

For example, when we walked down the street, he would suddenly jump like a high school boy taking a basketball shot.

For example, when we duo-queued in Honor of Kings, he insisted on pitching his voice higher and pretending to be a squeaky-voiced jungle king.

For example, he went insane on WeChat Moments every single day:

“The words reach my lips, then I swallow them back down. I rely on this for my daily sense of fullness.”

“Stalking? What stalking? I am the emperor. Nothing in the realm escapes my eyes and ears. I may go wherever I wish. On what grounds do you dare forbid me from patrolling your Moments? I have reasonable suspicion that you are privately raising soldiers, stockpiling weapons and armor, plotting rebellion, and coveting the throne. Open your Moments and let me inspect them.”

“My wife wishes she could keep me by her side at all times just to show me off, because I am the kind of man who, among my peers, has a pretty face, a smoking-hot body, and endlessly shifting vibes. I’m also outstanding at work and great at controlling the room. I’m forty-five now, and my second child, my six-year-old son, still looks at me with envy and says, Dad, your body is so hot. You’re the Little Chili Pepper of the East. Too bad I’m just a Little Potato from the South, not hot at all.”

“Jealous? Haha, you’re joking. We simply had a pleasant conversation and happened to get along. The friendship of gentlemen is as light as water, so how could I possibly be upset? I merely lost my manners for a moment and accidentally killed the person who was chatting with you just now. My apologies.”

Sometimes, I worried for his parents too.

It took them six kids to get their precious heir, and yet he seemed to have something wrong with his brain.

In the future, the pots and pans, the two-bedroom apartment, and the Aima electric scooter at home…

It looked like someone else would have to inherit them.
