Chapter 2

That weekend, Shen Lihui and I were out shopping.

He took a call, then turned back and looked at me for a moment, as if he had come to some major decision.

“My parents asked me to come home for dinner. Qiaoqiao, why don’t you come with me?”

Was he kidding??

It wasn’t like I planned to marry him.

If I met his parents now, how were we supposed to cleanly break things off later?

I brushed him off with a half-hearted excuse. “You go. I just remembered my bestie is still in the hospital after that car accident last time. I’m going to visit her.”

Shen Lihui looked a little dejected and stared at me pitifully for a while.

Once he realized I had no intention of changing my mind, he had no choice but to leave by himself.

The moment he was gone, I called my bestie out to keep the day going.

We bought a few discounted dresses, then had dinner.

My bestie suggested we go to a bar for a couple of drinks.

“Ever since you started dating, you haven’t gone to bars with me to check out hot guys in forever.”

She sounded a little baffled.

“Even if Abstract Bro is pretty good-looking, he’s still so abstract. How do you put up with him?”

I gestured as I explained, “It’s not just that he’s pretty good-looking. He really is the kind of… the kind you almost never see-”

And it wasn’t just his face.

Shen Lihui was pretty impressive in other areas too.

Excellent equipment, great stamina, tireless work ethic, and an especially strong sense of service.

But then again, today he’d already wanted to take me home to meet his parents.

Looked like the two of us weren’t far from breaking up.

My bestie and I arrived at the bar and ordered a dozen beers.

After drinking for a while, I got up to use the bathroom.

On my way back, I wandered around the corridor for ages before realizing I was lost.

I was just about to grab someone and ask for directions when I heard the bar manager nearby scolding a new server.

“This is the sixth young master of the Shen Family. He’s cold by nature and ruthless in his methods. Everyone who sees him trembles in fear! People in the underworld call him Lord Shen Liu.”

“Jiang Li, are you trying to get yourself killed by offending Lord Liu?”

The girl named Jiang Li looked around in total confusion. Then she suddenly grabbed me as I was passing by.

“What year is it? What month and day?”

“…Uh, July 1st, 2025.”

Jiang Li jolted, and tears spilled down her face. “I actually came back?!”

Having read widely and consumed far too many Zhihu threads, I quickly caught on too. “You’ve been reborn?”

Jiang Li ignored me. She pushed open the door to the private room beside us and walked in.

The manager turned pale with fright and chased after her, trying to stop her while apologizing.

“I’m sorry, Lord Liu. I failed to keep an eye on my subordinate. I’ll take her out right now…”

Fueled by my desire to watch the drama unfold, I followed them over to join the spectacle.

What came into view was a ridiculously large private room. The bloody scene I’d imagined, however, was nowhere to be found.

All I saw were several bodyguards in suits surrounding a wheelchair.

Sitting in the wheelchair was a tall, slender figure. He had his head propped lazily on one hand as he looked at the middle-aged man in front of him.

“You may repeat what you just said.”

That voice was actually pretty nice.

It was just a little familiar.

The lighting in the private room was dim, and he was turned sideways to me, so I couldn’t make out his face right away.

But the bodyguards all turned their heads when they heard the commotion. “Who are you? Get out!”

Jiang Li ignored the bodyguards walking toward her.

With tears in her eyes, she lifted the corners of her lips and opened her arms toward the person in the wheelchair. “Hubby, hug me.”

At the sound of that, the person in the wheelchair finally deigned to turn his head and look over. “Are you looking to d-”

Before he could get the rest of the words out,

his gaze collided with mine in midair.
