Chapter 3

The next second, the legendary Lord Shen Liu went rigid from head to toe.

He instructed the bodyguards beside him, “Leave. Take him with you and handle him the way we discussed.”

Then he turned a cold look on the manager. “You too. Get out.”

Several muscular bodyguards in sharp suits passed by me.

I heard them whispering among themselves. “What’s gotten into Lord Liu today? He’s being so polite.”

“Do you even know who’s here? That’s the woman Lord Liu has been pining over all this time, the young lady of the Jiang Family!”

“Lord Liu must be afraid of scaring Miss Jiang, so that’s why he told us to take the guy away to deal with him.”

Once I saw the bodyguards leave, I prepared to slip away too, only for him to add, “You stay.”

Soon, only the three of us were left.

Jiang Li didn’t look at me at all. She only stared at Lord Shen Liu with reddened eyes.

“In my last life, I watched you die right in front of me. This time, I won’t let you down again, husband.”

He looked back at Jiang Li, his eyes widening.

“What husband? How can you slander an innocent man out of nowhere?!”

“Explain yourself! Do we know each other? Though I am not single and have lived here for many years, as the saying goes, a virtuous husband invites many rumors; good news stays indoors while bad news travels a thousand miles. Therefore, one can only dwell in a humble hut, keep one’s eyes on the world, stand with feet in the mud, and hold all beneath heaven in one’s heart. Am I right?”

Aaaaaaaah.

I was so embarrassed I grabbed my bag, held it over my face, and prepared to run.

But then he started chasing after me in his wheelchair.

“Honey, I don’t know her! I don’t know her!!”

At the end of the hallway, Shen Lihui blocked my path sideways with his wheelchair.

I said, “Shen Lihui, explain. Why are they calling you Lord Liu?”

He looked left and right. “No idea. Maybe they mistook me for someone else.”

“Bye.”

I went around his wheelchair and prepared to leave.

There wasn’t enough room for him to turn around, so Shen Lihui had no choice but to stand up and chase after me, wrapping his arms around me from behind.

“I really had no choice.”

His voice was a little hoarse. After chasing me all the way here, he was inevitably short on breath. His rapid panting brushed against my ear, making it itch.

It was like a feather sweeping over the tip of my heart.

The next second, he spoke again.

“Fine, I admit it. It was the stage name I gave myself during my edgelord phase.”

Was that the point?!

I shoved him away at once. “The bar manager said everyone on the road calls you Lord Shen Liu. What road?”

He hesitated. “The broad road of socialism?”

After saying that, he even straightened up and puffed out his chest.

The red scarf on his chest looked even brighter.

I ignored his abstract nonsense and asked directly, “You’re part of the Shen Family? The Shen Family whose corporate branches are spread all across the country?”

Shen Lihui nodded.

“Why did you hide it from me? Did you want to play out some rich young master experiencing the hardships of ordinary life routine?”

He looked a little aggrieved. “You said before that you’re a practical person. If the gap was too big, you probably never would have agreed to be with me in the first place.”

All right.

I had nothing to say to that.

I really was someone who hated trouble. If I had known from the start that his name carried this much weight in the underworld, I never would have agreed to go out to dinner with him.

After thinking for a moment, I changed the subject. “Then you should know now. Jiang Li is the one who’s supposed to be your future wife…”

“Who knows that? Who agreed to that?!”

Shen Lihui cut me off at once.

“I told you, I don’t even know her! Why won’t you believe me?”

Obviously because even your bodyguards know she’s your unattainable first love, yet here you are still pretending with me.

I was speechless for a moment and gained a profound understanding of what they meant when they said rich people’s mouths were deceitful ghosts.

No matter how absurd Shen Lihui usually was, now that his disguise had been stripped away, there was a pitifully thick wall between us.

“You may not admit it now, but the future will still change.”

I said, “It just so happens I’ve been thinking about some things for a while. Since we’re here, I’ll say it today.”

“Shen Lihui, let’s break up.”
