Salaryman A and His Gentle Housewife E - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Rong Yu and I met through a blind date.
The reason I started going on blind dates was simple.
My Beta mother had been bedridden for a long time, and she was worried she might not live to see the day I got married.
So she began arranging blind dates for me.
I wanted to refuse. I wanted to tell her, How could anyone possibly be interested in me?
Sure, I was an Alpha, but both my parents were Betas, so my pheromone level was pathetically low. My scent wasn’t the cedarwood fragrance little Omegas went crazy for, either. It was orange-cloyingly sweet, and so faint it was practically nonexistent.
After graduation, I’d gotten lucky and joined a big tech company, but I was just a nine-to-five corporate drone. I had no car and was still paying off a mortgage.
And on top of all that…
My personality was dull, gloomy, and shut-in. My face was pale from spending years holed up in an office. I rotated through the same few plaid shirts every day. My hair was a little too long, hanging over my brows and eyes to avoid other people’s gazes. My heavy black-rimmed glasses formed a bulky barrier between me and the world.
What Omega could possibly be interested in an Alpha like me?
Reality proved me right.
Omega after Omega turned me down, some politely and shyly, others with open disdain.
Each rejection stabbed at my sensitive nerves, again and again.
See?
I told you.
I really was that awful.
Mother Zhou, however, remained optimistic.
Lying in her hospital bed, she stroked my head. Through my thick black-rimmed glasses, her eyes were gentle and full of love. “Take your time. There’s no rush. Our precious Ci is so good-looking. You’ll definitely find someone you like, and who likes you back.”
The corner of my mouth twitched slightly.
I had no idea where Mother Zhou had reached that conclusion.
Parents probably all saw their own children through a massive filter.
Whatever.
It wasn’t a big deal anyway.
And so, I began another round in the endless blind-date cycle.
Until I met Rong Yu.
Chapter 3
Strictly speaking, according to the ABO matchmaking agency’s system, a Beta and an Alpha should never have been matched together no matter what.
Not to mention that the ideal type I had listed was a gentle Omega.
But as luck would have it…
Rong Yu and I were both scheduled for blind dates at the same café.
Me with my Omega match.
Him with his Beta match.
Neither date went very smoothly.
Right after my Omega match left, his Beta match left as well.
This was my nth failed blind date.
I was already used to it.
But Rong Yu was clearly new to this.
After his match left, he sat there with his face covered, as if he were crying.
I hesitated for a moment.
In the end, I still walked over and handed him a packet of tissues. In a small voice, I said, “Hello. Here.”
Rong Yu lifted his head. In just those few short seconds, he had already composed himself. Aside from the slight redness around his eyes, there was no sign at all that he’d just been crying.
He took the tissues, his cool fingers brushing mine for only an instant. “Sorry.”
When Rong Yu spoke, he seemed to like looking people in the eye. He met my gaze and said, “Am I really that terrible? He left without even letting me finish what I was saying.”
Those words were far too familiar.
I blinked, stunned for a second, then remembered what Mother Zhou had said. “…It’s okay. Take your time. There’s no rush. You’re so good-looking. You’ll definitely find someone you like, and who likes you back.”
It wasn’t an empty compliment.
Rong Yu was exceptionally handsome.
His was the kind of face that was simply pleasing to look at.
He tilted his head up slightly. At first, his gaze rested on my eyes. Then he probably realized that wasn’t very polite, so he lowered it a little, settling on my lips instead.
He took another sip of water, steadying himself. My clumsy attempt at comfort made the corner of his mouth curve faintly. In an unhurried voice, he said, “Mm. From your lips to God’s ears.”
