Salted Fish and the Sword - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
The sun was high in the sky once again, and the sword was still sleeping in.
Ever since this Divine Sword started following me, it has slept until the sun hit its backside every single day.
Must be nice. If I were a sword, I wouldn’t have to get out of bed either.
I considerately tucked the sword in with its little blanket, covering its navel to prevent it from getting an upset stomach.
But the sword suddenly woke up. Its body turned a faint shade of red as it burrowed deeper into the covers.
“We are not yet wed. Let us wait a while longer for such things.
“My human form needs time to recover. Do not be in such a rush.”
Look at that little mouth go. What on earth was it talking about?
However, seeing me head out, the Divine Sword immediately leaped up and properly donned its scabbard.
It was lively outside.
Someone had come to challenge the sect.
An arrogant and overbearing rival was at the main gate, provoking the male protagonist.
“Shen Cunyu, I heard you’ve bound yourself to an Ancient Divine Sword. Do you dare to fight me?
“The one in my hand is also a famous blade.
“Whoever loses must kneel and beg for mercy, hahaha!”
I understood. This was the plot point where the male protagonist slaps the face of a disposable side character.
But Shen Cunyu stood there in silence, and the sword at his waist was shaking uncontrollably.
I understood that too. It was scared.
I forgot to tell him that the Little Iron Sword is quite timid. You have to coax it a lot before it can fight.
In this situation, one would usually have to kowtow a hundred times.
Shen Cunyu shot a glance at me, his eyes filled with humiliation and rage.
The opponent waited for a long while. Seeing Shen Cunyu standing still, he threw out a few more provocations.
I was just a bystander, a salted fish, chatting with my sword about what to have for lunch.
But the Bearded Man across from us was very spiteful, insulting everyone in sight.
When he saw me, he launched an indiscriminate attack.
“Haha! Don’t tell me you need the stinking woman next to you to fight in your stead? She looks like she’s about to cry from fear!”
I wasn’t! It was just dust in my eyes!
How dare he cross my bottom line?
I’m sorry, but my only skill is lowering my bottom line even further.
I took a step back with my sword and cried out in panic, “Please don’t hit me! Senior Brother Shen, slap his face for me!”
Shen Cunyu didn’t move, but the Divine Sword at my waist was absolutely incensed.
Its momentum was like a rainbow!
Not even a shadow could be seen.
In less than a second, the people who came to challenge the sect were piled up like a small mountain.
The Bearded Man at the very top was covered in tears, his clothes reduced to tattered rags.
“As expected of you, Shen Genius!
“I couldn’t even see your movements!”
Shen Cunyu, however, kept a cold face and swept his sleeves as he walked away, the vibration causing the Little Iron Sword at his waist to tremble.
Everyone marveled at how terrifyingly powerful Shen Cunyu was!
Even after winning, he remained calm and unpretentious.
“Is Shen Genius angry at himself for being too slow?”
“Truly a genius of his generation!”
“We prostrate ourselves in worship!”
…
The sword returned to my palm, feeling warm to the touch.
It whispered a consolation, “Wife, shall I cut out his tongue?”
I immediately covered the sword.
“Don’t! I’m afraid of blood!”
As expected of the male protagonist’s life-bound weapon-arrogant, overbearing, and cool!
I never thought that in my lifetime, I would feel my heart flutter for a sword.
My heart rate accelerated, thumping wildly in my chest.
The sword suddenly stopped, its tone somewhat concerned.
“Do you have a heart ailment?
“Your heartbeat is far too erratic.”
I poked it back into its scabbard. It really had no sense of romance.
