Chapter 44

Yan Jinge’s long eyelashes lowered, trembling slightly.

The warm, soft sensation on his fingers, accompanied by Song Zhengjun’s shallow breathing, caused Yan Jinge’s heart to beat somewhat uncontrollably. He looked up, staring at Song Zhengjun. “You’re not drunk?”

Song Zhengjun didn’t answer.

He gave Yan Jinge a gentle tug, pulling him closer. With almost no prelude, he leaned in and kissed him.

There had been a small gap between them at first, but they were soon drawn to each other as if by an uncontrollable force. They moved closer and closer until they were practically pressed against one another.

This proximity also made it easier for Song Zhengjun to move.

His large hand pressed against the back of Yan Jinge’s head, preventing him from escaping, as his tongue reached out to test the waters.

Yan Jinge narrowed his eyes.

He didn’t move.

Sensing Yan Jinge’s lack of resistance, Song Zhengjun pulled back slightly and called out in a husky voice, “Jinge…” His eyes were filled with a desire that startled Yan Jinge. His thumb pressed gently against the corner of Yan Jinge’s mouth, as if forcing the latter to submit.

Yan Jinge pursed his lips and turned his head slightly.

Song Zhengjun kissed him again.

This time, he successfully pried open Yan Jinge’s lips.

In a daze, Yan Jinge suddenly thought that Song Zhengjun really liked using his tongue when they kissed.

The two of them were entangled, which was far more stimulating than a simple lip-to-lip touch. Yan Jinge didn’t have much experience with kissing, and neither did Song Zhengjun, but the latter at least carried memories from previous worlds.

He knew exactly how to make Yan Jinge feel good. While kissing him, his hand moved downward.

Yan Jinge’s grip on Song Zhengjun’s clothes suddenly tightened, his knuckles turning white.

After a moment, Yan Jinge’s body stiffened abruptly before relaxing again.

Song Zhengjun whispered in Yan Jinge’s ear, “Does it feel good?”

Seeing Yan Jinge’s flushed cheeks and misty eyes, a sense of satisfaction filled his heart. He thought to himself that although the world was different, Yan Jinge’s body seemed to be the same as before-he had seen the small mole on the inner part of Yan Jinge’s thigh.

Besides, a person’s first time was always a bit quick. After all, the body was unfamiliar with the sensation and couldn’t handle it. In the previous world, Yan Jinge’s first time had been very fast, but this time, he had lasted a bit longer than before.

-Though not by much.

At that thought, Song Zhengjun narrowed his eyes, the corners of his mouth curling slightly.

Yan Jinge: “…”

Yan Jinge didn’t see Song Zhengjun’s expression.

He cleared his throat.

To be honest, Yan Jinge had never expected Song Zhengjun to do such a thing.

He had seen similar content in novels before, though it was always written vaguely and without detail. However, anyone could figure out that it was usually the person being kept who served the benefactor.

What kind of benefactor would…?

And he even asked if it felt good?

It felt as if their roles had been reversed.

Yan Jinge didn’t quite know what to say. He slowly climbed out of Song Zhengjun’s arms and whispered, “I’m going back to my room. I have to go to the set tomorrow.”

Song Zhengjun gave a low “Mhm.”

He didn’t plan on doing anything more to Yan Jinge today.

The “boiling a frog in lukewarm water” approach was what suited Yan Jinge best.

But at times like this, he found it difficult to suppress his inner thoughts.

His gaze instinctively clung to Yan Jinge.

From the man’s crimson lips to his exquisite collarbones, then further down to his slender waist and straight legs, his eyes finally rested on Yan Jinge’s fair, bare feet on the floor. “Put on some shoes. The floor is cold.”

“Okay.”

Yan Jinge responded.

Only when those rounded toes were tucked into slippers did Song Zhengjun finally withdraw his predatory gaze and look elsewhere with feigned indifference.

On the other side, after Yan Jinge returned to his room, he lay in bed tossing and turning, unable to sleep.

Song Zhengjun’s behavior…

And that final look that made him feel slightly uncomfortable, as if he were being dissected-it all felt familiar to Yan Jinge. It was as if someone else had once treated him and looked at him that way.

Frowning, Yan Jinge simply pulled the covers over his head, but in the darkness, his eyes couldn’t help but curve upward.

This emotion even surprised Yan Jinge himself.

He clearly hadn’t spent much time with Song Zhengjun. Even with what happened tonight-if the scene had involved anyone else, Yan Jinge couldn’t even imagine it, nor would he have ever allowed that person to touch him so easily.

But when facing Song Zhengjun…

It was as if everything changed.

Thinking about the filming the next day, Yan Jinge stopped dwelling on it, rolled over, and fell asleep.

…

Early the next morning, Lin Jiu drove the production van to pick up Yan Jinge and take him to the set.

“I’ve booked a suite for you at a hotel near the set. Sometimes when there are night scenes, it’ll save you the trouble of commuting, and you can also take a nap during breaks. The two assistants from the team are already waiting at the set. They can be replaced at any time, so if you don’t like them, just tell me.”

“Okay.”

Yan Jinge pinched the bridge of his nose.

“Didn’t sleep well?”

At the mention of this topic, Yan Jinge immediately thought of last night.

He lowered his eyes, his long lashes like small fans. “…A little.”

Lin Jiu glanced over at Yan Jinge.

Yan Jinge had great skin with tiny pores; his complexion was so fair it seemed to glow. Back when he was in the boy group, his popularity had been very high. He had managed to debut by conquering fans solely with his face.

At the moment, there were no dark circles under Yan Jinge’s eyes at all. It was impossible to tell he hadn’t slept well.

“Even though Director Xu and Chairman Song have an unusual relationship, work is work.”

Lin Jiu said only that one sentence.

Yan Jinge understood the logic.
By the time they arrived at the set, the assistant Lin Jiu had hired for Yan Jinge was already handing out breakfast in Yan Jinge’s name. Yan Jinge forced himself to perk up; to any observer, he looked perfectly fine, with no hint that he hadn’t slept well the night before.

The staff members, having enjoyed the breakfast sent by Yan Jinge’s team, all greeted him warmly when they saw him.

Yan Jinge responded to each one in turn.

He hadn’t been there long and had just gone in for makeup when Yi Haotian arrived.

Like Yan Jinge, Yi Haotian hadn’t slept well either.

However, his skin wasn’t as good as Yan Jinge’s, and being slightly older, the dark circles under his eyes were prominent and very obvious.

In his heart, Yi Haotian knew he probably should have told his manager everything that happened at the studio earlier to discuss how to resolve the situation. But he knew his manager’s personality all too well; he feared that once she knew, she would simply abandon him to avoid offending Song Zhengjun.

Ultimately, after agonizing all night, Yi Haotian chose to say nothing for the sake of his career.

“If Sister Lin finds out about what happened at the studio…”

Yi Haotian gave his assistants a threatening look.

The three assistants glanced at each other and quickly chimed in, “Don’t worry, Haotian. Of course we won’t say a word.”

“Good.”

Yi Haotian’s lips curled into a smirk as he put on his sunglasses. “I’ll give you all a bonus at the end of the month.”

“Thank you, Haotian!”

“Haotian, you can rest easy about this. We work for you, not Sister Lin. Whatever you say goes. This is a major matter, and you clearly have your own reasons for keeping it quiet, so we definitely won’t talk.”

“Exactly. Besides, you’re a top-tier star in the industry right now. Investors only care about money. Even if that Chairman Song doesn’t want to use you anymore, so what? There will definitely be other investors willing to…”

“Exactly, exactly.”

Yi Haotian felt quite satisfied by their flattery, but as soon as he stepped onto the set, reality hit him hard.

“Where were you out fooling around last night? Those dark circles are so heavy. Did you forget we were filming today or what? When the camera zooms in, who do you think is going to edit those out frame by frame? Who are you trying to work to death?”

The Deputy Director began berating Yi Haotian the moment he saw him.

Xu Tang, always the peacemaker, smiled and intervened. “Go to makeup first; they should be able to cover it up. You’re the male lead of this drama, you can’t be so reckless in the future.”

The two were playing ‘good cop, bad cop.’

Usually, actors who heard this would know they were in the wrong and would simply apologize.

But this time was different.

Yi Haotian inadvertently met Xu Tang’s gaze and felt that despite his words, there was a coldness in the director’s eyes. In his mind, Xu Tang must have already told the Deputy Director about Song Zhengjun’s dissatisfaction with him, which was why the Deputy Director was going out of his way to cause trouble.

-It was just some dark circles.

Plenty of people had them; he wasn’t the only one. There was really no need to make such a scene.

Calling him out in front of everyone like that… wasn’t it just to make him lose face?

This tactic was far too childish.

Filled with disdain, Yi Haotian kept a stony face and walked coldly toward the dressing room, where he happened to run into Yan Jinge coming out.

The two came face-to-face.

The hallway was empty. Thinking about how Yan Jinge had caused him to toss and turn all night and get scolded today, Yi Haotian couldn’t suppress his anger. He leaned in close to Yan Jinge and hissed in a low, mocking tone, “Yan Jinge, does it feel good to serve people with your body? Does it feel good to use power to suppress others? To think you’d actually take this path just to get one over on me. You really are pathetic…”

Yan Jinge looked at Yi Haotian in surprise. “Who are you again? You don’t actually think that everything I’m doing now is just to spite you, do you? No way. Seriously? Could there really be someone in this world so shamelessly narcissistic?”

Yi Haotian: “…”

Yan Jinge’s expression was perfect, his tone exaggerated and dripping with sarcasm.

Yi Haotian was momentarily choked up.

In his heart, he certainly believed Yan Jinge was doing all this just to spite him. What else could it be?

It certainly couldn’t be for the sake of ‘pursuing a dream’ in show business.

Yan Jinge let out a low chuckle. “Though, you were right about one thing just now.”

Yi Haotian: “?”

Yan Jinge glanced at him sideways and said with a grin, “Using power to suppress people does feel pretty good. Looking at those dark circles, I can tell you didn’t sleep well. Since you’ve personally suggested this path to me, I certainly shouldn’t let it go to waste, right? I think I’ll go whisper in someone’s ear tonight.”

With that, Yan Jinge walked away before Yi Haotian could respond.

Yi Haotian stood rooted to the spot, taking a deep breath.

Yan Jinge was truly-

Far too arrogant.

Did he really think having a sugar daddy made him invincible?

Unfortunately, some people had nothing but a face; no matter how much they were propped up, they would never stand on their own.

Back at the studio, Yan Jinge’s performance playing two roles without changing his makeup had been superficial in Yi Haotian’s eyes. He didn’t think much of it at all. Surely, once the actual filming began, Yan Jinge’s true colors would be revealed.

When the time came, he would utterly crush Yan Jinge with his acting skills. Even if Yan Jinge had a benefactor, he could still step over Yan Jinge to reach the top!

Capital would surely tilt in his direction then.

Because he would win through sheer talent.
