Chapter 61

#Yan Jinge Attends Financial Summit#

#Yan Jinge Summit Speech Video Leaked for the First Time#

Everyone who woke up early and reflexively opened Weibo to check for gossip was met with: “???”

What the hell???

Yan Jinge?

Is it the Yan Jinge they know? Or just someone with the same name?

In an instant, the masses flocked to the videos and photos from the summit circulating on Weibo. They immediately discovered that this Yan Jinge was indeed the one they were thinking of…

“Can some expert explain what this summit actually means?”

“I don’t get it, but it feels like a big deal…”

“Little brother Jinge is so badass! I didn’t pay attention before, but look closely at who else attended the summit. This one is a titan of the food industry, that one is a beverage mogul…”

As they counted them off one by one, everyone was stunned.

“When you put it that way, they really are all heavyweights!”

“Yan Jinge actually gave a speech in front of all those big shots… All I can say is, Song Zhengjun spoils him way too much, doesn’t he?”

“Break it up, everyone. It feels like Song Zhengjun just brought Yan Jinge along to this kind of event specifically to pad his resume. Ever since Yan Jinge appeared in the public eye-never mind his acting or his idol skills-I only have one thing to say: I’m sick of eating this dog food.”

“Even if it is dog food, I watched the whole video with the intent of finding some ‘sugar,’ and I noticed a lot of small details. According to your logic, even if Yan Jinge had been cramming, he might be able to recite highly professional content about the tech sector during a speech, but he should only have a surface-level understanding when questioned. He’d be a total novice who would have to turn to Song Zhengjun for help, but he didn’t. During the Q&A session, no matter what questions the big shots asked, Yan Jinge answered them all. I didn’t even understand some of the questions the first time and had to rewind, yet Yan Jinge only paused for a moment before answering. And looking at the expressions of those experts at the time, they seemed very satisfied.”

This long comment was immediately upvoted to the top of the trending replies.

Shortly after, it was reposted by Song Zhengjun.

Song Zhengjun V: You have a good eye.

Everyone: “…”

Kick over the dog food bowl!!!

***

Yi Haotian was hiding in a cramped rental room, his phone screen glowing.

He couldn’t help but look at the peeling wallpaper beside him, then back at the online leaks-candid photos taken by passersby of Yan Jinge and Song Zhengjun standing together.

In one, Song Zhengjun was speaking, and Yan Jinge’s lips curled into a slight smile at something he heard. His already exquisite and beautiful features became even more captivating.

Compared to the verbal abuse from unknown numbers on his phone and the cynical mockery from his former flings who were kicking him while he was down, Yan Jinge was doing very well.

Extremely well.

Yi Haotian couldn’t help but cover his eyes with his arm.

Yan Jinge was no longer the same person as before.

Whether it was his acting or the strength he displayed at the summit, it was enough to prove that the old Yi Haotian had been blind-it wasn’t that Yan Jinge lacked ability or wasn’t good enough for him.

On the contrary, Yan Jinge was exceptionally talented; he just hadn’t had a platform to show himself before.

In contrast, Yi Haotian…

He had achieved nothing.

Though Yi Haotian also found it strange why Yan Jinge suddenly knew so much about technology-even the internal staff at Song Zhengjun’s company were full of praise for him, acknowledging his professional competence-after all, when the two of them were in the same group and shared everything, Yan Jinge had never mentioned any of this.

But he no longer had the luxury to ponder such things. His mind was filled with pain and regret.

He couldn’t help but think.

If…

If he hadn’t two-timed him back then, he would definitely still be dating Yan Jinge now.

Because he knew that Yan Jinge had always been serious about relationships.

If that were the case, that man named “Song Zhengjun” would have had nothing to do with them. They would have entered the entertainment industry hand-in-hand, and with their combined abilities, they would surely be the power couple everyone envied now.

Just like Yan Jinge and Song Zhengjun were today.

At the very least, if he hadn’t gone looking for others after being kept by President Li, he would certainly be living a very good life now-

People only start to feel deep regret after certain things have already happened.

Just like the current Yi Haotian.

Past events swirled in his mind, causing him to think constantly.

Thinking and thinking.

Thinking until his head felt like it was going to explode.

Yi Haotian stared wide-eyed, as if he could burn a hole through the two people in the photo.

He desperately wanted to get up, find Yan Jinge, and coax him back, but the thought only lasted for a second before he extinguished it. He let out a bitter laugh.

What right did he have to do that now?

Yan Jinge would certainly never forgive him.

***

On the other side.

Yan Jinge was bewildered.

Even though he had lost his memories of the previous worlds, Yan Jinge knew that after the system notified him that the task was complete, he should have left quickly rather than lingering here.

Had something gone wrong with “Rebirth”?

But there was no news on the Task Panel.

Yan Jinge studied it for a long time before eventually deciding to ignore it-he enjoyed the time spent with Song Zhengjun. Thinking that leaving here would mean separating from Song Zhengjun, staying didn’t seem to matter.

Time flew by.

About a month later, Yan Jinge finally heard the long-awaited system voice: [Ding. System audit complete. Mr. Yan Jinge, you are about to depart from this world and proceed to the Zone One waiting room. Please be prepared.]

The system began the countdown.

Yan Jinge froze and turned to look at Song Zhengjun across the dining table.

The two were currently dining at a high-end restaurant.

Song Zhengjun had his eyes lowered, focused on cutting a piece of steak.
Once he finished slicing all the steak, he swapped his plate directly with the one in front of Yan Jinge. Noticing Yan Jinge’s unusual silence, he raised his deep blue eyes and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Yan Jinge pursed his lips and said softly, “I’m leaving.”

Song Zhengjun’s hands paused mid-motion.

He didn’t know the specific details of Yan Jinge’s secret, but he had experienced Yan Jinge’s departures twice before. Since they usually happened after the scumbag’s repentance, he could more or less guess the general situation.

Hearing Yan Jinge say this now, Song Zhengjun immediately realized that he was likely about to leave this place.

He lowered his gaze imperceptibly, glancing at the thread around Yan Jinge’s ankle that was invisible to ordinary people.

“Mm.”

Song Zhengjun only gave a faint response.

Though parting brought reluctance, this wasn’t the end, but a new beginning.

Song Zhengjun looked up and said, “Safe travels.”

Yan Jinge couldn’t help but be stunned.

Actually, he shouldn’t have mentioned leaving just now. According to normal dialogue procedures, an NPC would definitely ask where he was going-and he obviously couldn’t tell the truth.

Once he left this place, the memories of every NPC in the entire world would be wiped.

Song Zhengjun would forget him.

But Yan Jinge hadn’t expected Song Zhengjun to play it so differently.

He didn’t ask where Yan Jinge was going. Instead, it was as if he had known all along that Yan Jinge would leave one day. Although his eyes held a trace of lingering attachment, his expression was calm. His “safe travels” sounded incredibly sincere.

However, it was completely out of character for the situation.

“You-”

Yan Jinge only managed to get out one word. Before he could finish his question, he felt his body grow light. In an instant, he was standing inside an oval-shaped building. The surroundings were a vast expanse of white; only the moving humans provided splashes of different colors.

Yan Jinge stood rooted to the spot, unmoving, a hint of daze still lingering in his expression.

Song Zhengjun’s expression at that moment hadn’t been quite right.

As an NPC, did he know a bit too much?

…Or did the NPCs actually know everything, but they just hadn’t shown it before?

Doubts filled Yan Jinge’s mind, but looking around, everyone was in a hurry. He wasn’t the type of person who could just pull a stranger aside and pour his heart out.

In the end, Yan Jinge simply headed to his lounge.

He was exhausted and desperately needed to sleep.

Seventy-two hours later, Yan Jinge headed to the new world.

[World loading…]

[…Unknown BUG detected. System is about to perform repairs. Mr. Yan Jinge, please-]

[Zzt-]

[Zzt zzt-Beep-]

A burst of piercing static rang out.

Yan Jinge couldn’t help but frown.

…What was going on?

The system actually had a bug?

Yan Jinge was slightly startled.

He looked around. He was in a noisy classroom.

The classroom wasn’t particularly large. At the very front were a blackboard and a podium. Below the podium were light-yellow desks arranged in pairs. The students wore matching school uniforms and sat together in small groups. Some were chatting, some were laughing, and others were fooling around, bumping into the corner of Yan Jinge’s desk.

“Jinge, sorry about that.”

The person spoke quickly and then ran off after a classmate.

…It had been a long time since he’d been on a campus.

A hint of nostalgia flickered in Yan Jinge’s eyes.

“Jinge, you’ll be an adult in another week, right?” a voice asked.

A boy in a blue-and-white school uniform was twirling a pen in his hand. He sat next to Yan Jinge and nudged Yan Jinge’s arm with his elbow.

Yan Jinge hadn’t received the memories sent by the system yet. He only knew he was in a classroom; he knew nothing else, not even the boy’s name.

Not being entirely sure about what the boy said, he gave a noncommittal “Mm.”

“I’m so jealous of you.”

The boy sighed, his tone tinged with a bit of gloom. “To meet a partner with a 92% compatibility rate so early… I remember you guys have lived together for over two years already? How is the relationship coming along?”

Yan Jinge: “?”

Yan Jinge chose a more neutral response: “…It’s alright.”

“I knew you guys had a good relationship! And since you’re like this, it won’t be too awkward after marriage. Unlike me-I don’t even know who I’ll be married off to right now… I really wish my eighteenth birthday would come later.”

Yan Jinge sat in his seat through half a day of classes. Even as night fell, the system still hadn’t finished its repairs.

The school bell rang.

Before long, only two or three people were left in the classroom.

Yan Jinge sat in his seat, finally finding a moment of peace to slowly organize his things.

Probably because he was still a student and studies were the priority, he didn’t have a phone.

He did have his ID card on him. Thinking of the worst-case scenario, even if he couldn’t successfully meet up with the “partner with 92% compatibility” his classmate mentioned, he could still find a cheap hostel to stay in for the night.

Besides, that partner was likely the target for this mission.

With that thought in mind, Yan Jinge grabbed his schoolbag and walked out of the classroom.

Just as he stepped out, he saw a man with a slender build, nearly a head taller than him. The man was refined and handsome; even in a drab school uniform, he looked like he could be walking a runway at Fashion Week. He was looking over.

The man’s gaze made Yan Jinge feel a bit uncomfortable, as if all his clothes were being stripped away. The man carefully looked Yan Jinge up and down, his gaze lingering on Yan Jinge’s ankle for a moment before he lowered his eyes.

“Yan Jinge,” he called out, his voice deep.

Yan Jinge frowned. “Yes.”

Fine.

It looked like this guy was the scumbag, no doubt about it.
