Chapter 62

Yan Jinge didn’t know the scumbag’s name, nor did he know what the two of them were supposed to do next. He maintained a safe distance, neither too close nor too far, waiting in silence for the man to give an order.

Across from him, Bai Cheng’s sharp, piercing eyes swept over Yan Jinge once more. Seeing the way Yan Jinge stood and the unfamiliarity in his gaze after agreeing, Bai Cheng understood everything.

It seemed his lover had lost his memories once again.

But it didn’t matter.

He was already used to it.

He just had to win him over one more time.

Besides, this world was slightly different from the previous ones…

“Brother Bai!”

A shout echoed from down the hallway. A boy about the same height as Yan Jinge walked over quickly, his gaze flickering over Yan Jinge before asking, “What are you doing here?”

Yan Jinge had a moment of realization.

So the scumbag was called Brother Bai.

“It’s nothing,” Bai Cheng said in a low voice, turning to walk out with his friend.

Yan Jinge recalled what his seatmate had said-that he and the scumbag had been living together for nearly two years-so he naturally followed behind Bai Cheng.

It looked like he wouldn’t need to find a hotel today after all.

Bai Cheng’s friend, Yuan He, walked ahead with him. He kept feeling like someone was following close behind. When he glanced back and saw it was Yan Jinge, he was momentarily stunned.

This guy…

Yuan He had some memory of him. He was the Omega of that Alpha from the neighboring class, Tan Yuxuan. His name was Yan Jinge. Usually, he followed Tan Yuxuan like a shadow, even standing outside Tan Yuxuan’s classroom during breaks to watch him. Although he never interfered with Tan Yuxuan’s social life or actions, his constant presence there naturally made him a topic of gossip for the class.

Tan Yuxuan was annoyed to death by him and complained about it constantly; Yuan He had heard plenty of it.

There were many paths leading out of the school gates. The one he and Bai Cheng were taking now was the longest route, connecting to South Road, which led toward the villa where Bai Cheng lived. Tan Yuxuan lived in the opposite direction.

No matter how you looked at it, it was impossible for Yan Jinge to be going the same way as them.

…Why wasn’t this guy following Tan Yuxuan today? Why was he following them instead?

He kept turning his head to look at Yan Jinge trailing behind them.

Could it be…

This Omega had fallen for their Brother Bai now?

Yuan He suddenly felt a wave of unease.

Who didn’t know that Yan Jinge from Class Three was like a piece of chewing gum you couldn’t shake off? He didn’t have a shred of Omega reserve. If a high-quality Alpha like their Brother Bai got entangled with him, wouldn’t it be incredibly annoying?

Although Yuan He knew that Brother Bai would never be interested in an Omega like that, if rumors started spreading around school, it wouldn’t look good, would it?

Yuan He paused, intending to tell Yan Jinge to get lost and that Bai Cheng wasn’t someone he could dream of pursuing. To his surprise, Bai Cheng stopped before he could say a word.

“You go home first,” Bai Cheng said. “You don’t need to come to my place for the next few days.”

Yuan He: “???”

Damn.

What was going on?

This was highly unusual!

Yuan He had been in the same school as Bai Cheng since middle school. Back then, he was the first to recognize Bai Cheng’s potential as a school overlord and was determined to be his lackey. Bai Cheng hadn’t disappointed him, quickly becoming the undisputed “top dog” of the school.

Following Bai Cheng every day, Yuan He called him “Brother” without any psychological burden. This resulted in a good relationship between them, and Bai Cheng often took him along to hang out.

Aside from studying, Bai Cheng did everything else. Gradually, the two of them became inseparable, meeting up almost every day after school to play arcade games, shoot pool, or go swimming…

This was the first time they had agreed to play games in the evening only for Bai Cheng to go back on his word.

For some reason, Yuan He subconsciously glanced at Yan Jinge behind them. He saw Yan Jinge standing a short distance away with an innocent expression, his beautiful light brown eyes watching them.

…He had a feeling this had something to do with Yan Jinge.

But how was that possible?

Bai Cheng had never had any interaction with Yan Jinge before.

Seeing Yuan He standing there frozen as if struck by lightning, Bai Cheng frowned and asked, “Did you hear me?”

Yuan He: “…Oh.”

When Bai Cheng spoke, Yuan He didn’t dare disobey. He hitched his backpack up and walked away, looking back three times with every step.
Once they were alone on the dimly lit road, Bai Cheng finally looked at the boy in front of him.

In this world, Yan Jinge’s face looked much younger than before. Dressed in a school uniform and standing with such a well-behaved air, he looked like the kind of person who would inadvertently stir up a sense of sadistic desire in others.

Bai Cheng couldn’t help but recall the days they had spent together. His Adam’s apple bobbed slightly as he stepped toward Yan Jinge and asked, “What are you doing?”

Yan Jinge blinked, looking confused. “…Aren’t we going home?”

Bai Cheng: “…”

Yan Jinge: “?”

Bai Cheng fell silent for a moment before suddenly letting out a low chuckle. “We are.”

Mistaken identity?

This was a first.

Bai Cheng had originally wanted to ask teasingly, *’Are you sure you want to go home with me?’*

However, that question was too pointed. The moment he said it, Yan Jinge would definitely realize he wasn’t Tan Yuxuan. Out of a selfish desire to spend more time with Yan Jinge, Bai Cheng didn’t say much and simply accepted the role of the other person in their relationship.

“Do you want to go eat first?” Bai Cheng asked.

Yan Jinge had initially felt that Bai Cheng’s attitude was a bit strange, but then he figured he was probably overthinking it.

Besides, according to his deskmate, he and this person were supposed to be a couple.

Wasn’t it normal to walk together after school?

Bai Cheng had been the only one waiting at the classroom door, and he had even called out his name. When he asked about going home just now, if the boy in front of him wasn’t the scumbag, he surely would have called him crazy instead of answering like that.

“What are we eating?” Yan Jinge asked.

Bai Cheng replied, “Whatever you like best.”

Yan Jinge gave a soft “mm.” As he walked beside Bai Cheng, he opened his Task Panel, which was still completely blank.

He had no idea when the system would finally be fixed.

The two of them exited the school gates, where a driver was already waiting in a car. The driver was slightly taken aback to see a boy following behind Bai Cheng, but since the young master often brought classmates home to hang out, it wasn’t a big deal.

He didn’t pry.

After they got into the car, Bai Cheng spoke directly. “Uncle Wang, don’t go home yet. Go to Yilin for dinner.”

The car came to a stop.

The two of them walked into the restaurant side by side.

After sitting down, Bai Cheng ordered several dishes. When Yan Jinge heard the list, he realized they were indeed things he liked to eat, and he finally began to relax.

He sat with a lazy posture, leaning back against the chair with his eyes slightly narrowed. He began to plot how he would make the scumbag sitting across from him pay the price he deserved to complete the mission.

“What are you thinking about?” Bai Cheng poured tea for Yan Jinge. “You’ve been staring at me.”

Yan Jinge: “…”

Thinking about how to ruin you.

Yan Jinge’s eyes crinkled as he offered a faint, obedient smile. “I was thinking about how handsome you are. I like you so much.”

Yan Jinge wasn’t exactly lying about that part.

Bai Cheng, sitting across from him, was indeed very good-looking.

Bai Cheng froze, his heart skipping a beat.

Pretending to be unfazed, he pushed the teacup toward Yan Jinge and asked, “How handsome? How much do you like me?”

Yan Jinge: “…”

Yan Jinge thought to himself, *This scumbag is quite the narcissist. He actually wants people to praise him so bluntly?*

Most people cared about their dignity and would never do such a thing.

But since the person in front of him had asked, Yan Jinge could only rack his brains to slowly shower him with compliments before the food arrived.

Bai Cheng found it incredibly satisfying to listen to.

His dark eyes, which had been heavy and somber before, finally showed a hint of a smile.

It had been a long time since Bai Cheng had seen Yan Jinge. Now that they were finally reunited, it felt like a honeymoon after a long separation. However, since the other person didn’t remember him, he couldn’t be intimate.

He couldn’t resist teasing Jinge in this way.

He considered it… collecting interest in advance.

Before long, the waiter arrived with several dishes. Only then did Bai Cheng put on a satisfied expression and nod. “Alright, let’s eat first. We’ll save the rest for tonight.”

…There’s more??

Yan Jinge glanced up at Bai Cheng. “…Okay.”

Even though the meal consisted of all his favorite dishes, the thought of having to continue praising this man tonight made Yan Jinge lose his appetite.

Especially since the man seemed to treat him quite well on the surface.

He even put on gloves to peel the shrimp, stacking them in a small bowl and handing them over when Yan Jinge was ready to eat.

He really couldn’t tell where exactly this guy was supposed to be a “scumbag.”
Maybe he was hiding it deep down.

After dinner, the two of them headed home.

Bai Cheng lived in a villa district not far from the school, in a single-story flat of about three hundred square meters. As soon as they entered, he headed straight for the bedroom.

Yan Jinge followed close behind.

Just as he reached the door, Bai Cheng suddenly turned around and asked, “Why are you following me? Do you want to sleep with me?”

Hearing this, Yan Jinge slammed on the brakes, nearly crashing into Bai Cheng. At the same time, a faint scent of agarwood hit his nose, carrying a hint of spice.

He froze for a moment and rubbed his nose. “…No.”

It seemed that although they had lived together for two years, they didn’t actually share a room.

Yan Jinge felt much more relieved.

Seeing Bai Cheng enter the bedroom, Yan Jinge took the opportunity to familiarize himself with the house. Eventually, he wandered around and stopped in the study.

He turned his head and called out to Bai Cheng, who had just changed clothes and stepped out of his room: “Brother Bai. Let’s do our homework together.”

Bai Cheng arched an eyebrow.

…Why was Yan Jinge calling him Brother Bai?

It was actually a little embarrassing.

Yan Jinge blinked and opted for a more neutral question: “What’s wrong? Aren’t you doing your homework today?”

As a school delinquent, Bai Cheng had never known the meaning of the word “homework.”

He had lived through several worlds, starting from infancy in each one. It was fine for the first couple of times, but after doing it so often, he had lost interest in being “reforged” and relearning high school senior material. He was even less inclined to do homework every day.

Of course, even without doing homework, Bai Cheng’s exam results were always outstanding, usually ranking within the top ten of his grade.

Combined with his family background, the teachers at school couldn’t do anything about him. They didn’t even dare to be harsh, fearing he might go home and complain. They simply turned a blind eye as long as his grades didn’t drop and his father didn’t come asking questions.

But now, the person asking was Yan Jinge.

Bai Cheng remained silent for a second before he could only say, “…I’ll do it.”

He pulled up a chair and sat down at the desk side-by-side with Yan Jinge.

Since Bai Cheng never did homework, he naturally hadn’t brought home any exercise books or distributed worksheets.

With nothing to do, he symbolically twirled a pen, his gaze fixed intently and longingly on Yan Jinge, who was busy taking his assignments out of his schoolbag.

Before this, Bai Cheng had never imagined that he would one day experience high school with Yan Jinge, let alone sit together writing homework…

This was a beautiful and rare experience.

It was something he could keep in his heart and treasure forever.

Yan Jinge noticed Bai Cheng’s gaze. He turned his head, his eyes filled with confusion.

Bai Cheng said, “Just write.”

Yan Jinge checked the time. It was already late, and he had to get up early for morning self-study tomorrow.

Not wanting to sacrifice his sleep, he ignored Bai Cheng and began his work.

There was a lot of homework in the third year of high school, but if one raced against the clock, most of it could be finished during evening self-study. However, Yan Jinge had just arrived today and wasn’t used to the routine. Plus, he had wasted the entire evening self-study session waiting for the system to be repaired, so he had to catch up now. Fortunately, the content in the workbooks was very simple, if a bit tedious.

Yan Jinge calmed his mind and quickly finished all his homework amidst the scent of agarwood.

During the process, he glanced around but didn’t see any incense burning.

Yan Jinge didn’t dwell on it.

He packed his homework into his bag and turned to look at Bai Cheng.

Although Yan Jinge didn’t speak, Bai Cheng had spent enough time with him to know exactly what that look meant.

-Condemnation and disapproval.

Clearly, this was Yan Jinge’s assessment of Bai Cheng not doing any homework today.

Bai Cheng: “…”

Bai Cheng suppressed the nostalgia and desire on his face, slowly straightening his somewhat stiff body. Before Yan Jinge could question why he hadn’t brought his books home or why he wasn’t working, Bai Cheng took the initiative. He spoke with righteous confidence: “Finished? Back at the restaurant, you said you’d keep praising me tonight. Now that you have time, you can continue.”

After speaking, he tilted his head up, putting on an expression that said, “I’ll allow you to begin your praise now.”

Yan Jinge: “…”
