Chapter 68

The classroom was silent. Aside from the rhythmic whirring of the ceiling fans overhead, the only sound was the math teacher’s voice at the podium, diligently explaining a geometry problem.

The students were all focused on the blackboard. Even those slacking off were either hiding their phones behind textbooks or sneakily passing notes.

No one noticed Yan Jinge and Bai Cheng.

Bai Cheng’s palm was very warm, and it grew sweaty after a short while.

Yan Jinge lowered his eyes, feeling a slight dampness on the back of his hand.

He turned to look at Bai Cheng.

Bai Cheng was holding Yan Jinge’s hand with his right, so he simply used his left hand to hold a pen. He looked up at the teacher from time to time, scribbling and drawing in his notebook, looking quite the part of a diligent student.

However, it would have been more convincing if his writing didn’t look like chicken scratch.

Yan Jinge suddenly let out a small smile.

Meanwhile, the school forum was going into a frenzy.

[BREAKING NEWS!!! Can you guys believe this? Bai Cheng from Class One suddenly transferred to Class Three!!!]

[??? What happened? Didn’t people say Bai Cheng’s parents spent a fortune donating a library just to squeeze their son into Class One? Why the sudden transfer?]

[Upstairs, are you a Bai Cheng hater? Bai Cheng ranks in the top ten of the entire school; you think he couldn’t get into Class One on his own? He had to pay? Then how did the other thirty-plus students in Class One get in? I think the real point is, why did he suddenly move to Class Three? Did he have a falling out with his old classmates? Did he get into a fight?]

[To be honest, if he really had a conflict with someone, I assumed the other person would be the one to transfer. I never expected it to be him…]

[Stop guessing, everyone. A student from Class One is here to give the eyewitness account. Today was a beautiful, peaceful day. Nothing happened, but right in the middle of class, Bai Cheng just vanished.]

[…No falling out, no fighting. Let me ask you, who would dare fight him? Which of you has a Pheromone as powerful as his?]

[What about the friends in Class Three?]

[Class Three reporting in… We came upstairs after the morning exercises and saw Bai Cheng sitting in the seat next to Yan Jinge. For a moment, I thought I was still dreaming.]

[Sitting with Yan Jinge?]

[Who’s Yan Jinge?]

[You don’t know Yan Jinge? That Omega of Tan Yuxuan’s.]

[Oh, oh, oh, him. I remember. Didn’t people say he used to linger outside Tan Yuxuan’s classroom door almost every break? Heh. I bet within two days, Bai Cheng won’t be able to stand Yan Jinge and will change seats.]

[Truthfully, I’m from Class Three. Aside from being a bit irrational when it comes to Tan Yuxuan, Yan Jinge is actually very nice in other aspects. Such a frail Omega suddenly sitting next to a powerhouse like Bai Cheng… setting aside the AO suppression issue, just considering Bai Cheng’s status alone, Yan Jinge must be incredibly uncomfortable. He’s probably shaking in his boots right now. I actually hope the two of them get separated.]

[Waaaah, the big boss stole my seat! My precious Jinge-]

[He’s just a pair of worn-out shoes that Tan Yuxuan didn’t want.]

On the other side of the screen.

Bai Cheng frowned slightly as he scrolled through the forum posts explaining Yan Jinge’s background.

He initially wanted to use his administrator privileges to delete the entire thread, especially since it mentioned the relationship between Tan Yuxuan and Yan Jinge. But on second thought, he left the post up and instead used his lightning-fast hand speed to ban several users who were speaking ill of Yan Jinge.

After this series of maneuvers, Bai Cheng felt much better.

The forum, however, erupted in a chorus of wails.

[My main account got banned!]

[Me too! Aaaaah, I don’t even feel like I said anything bad!!]

The corners of Bai Cheng’s mouth curled into a cold smirk. However, in the next second, his phone was snatched away.

Keeping the persona of a scumbag who didn’t care for studying in mind, Yan Jinge tossed Bai Cheng’s phone into the desk drawer and instructed, “Focus on the lesson.”

The students sitting behind them gasped.

“…It’s over, it’s over, it’s over.”

The two exchanged a look, neither daring to look at Bai Cheng or Yan Jinge again. They silently pushed their desks back as far as possible, even though it left them with almost no personal space.

-Just in case the two of them suddenly started fighting, or if Bai Cheng started a one-sided beatdown of Yan Jinge, they wanted to be able to dodge.

However, the expected scene never occurred.

Bai Cheng adjusted his originally lazy posture to sit a bit more upright and said, “Whatever you say.”

The two students: “???”

What the hell???

What did they just hear???

Yan Jinge and Bai Cheng???

Bai Cheng hadn’t spoken loudly, but they were too close not to hear. Bai Cheng’s expression remained cold, yet there was an unmistakable hint of doting in his tone, as if… the two of them had something going on!

Come to think of it, why would Bai Cheng suddenly transfer classes?

Could it be-

Holy crap.

They seemed to have discovered something monumental!

They glanced at each other and instinctively reached for their phones, but in the next second, someone tapped on their desk.

Bai Cheng glanced back, his gaze meaningful. “What are you planning to do?”

“…” They didn’t dare move. Not a muscle.

Without waiting for an answer, Bai Cheng asked again, “What did you see? What did you hear?”

“…Nothing, we didn’t see anything, and we didn’t hear anything either,” the quicker-witted one replied immediately, nudging his deskmate’s arm.

The deskmate immediately followed suit, shaking his head frantically. “No, no, no-”

Yan Jinge was speechless. He pulled the man back. “…Stop scaring them. Listen to the lecture.”

“Mm,” Bai Cheng grunted in response. He let out a low chuckle and turned back to listen to the class.
Although Bai Cheng didn’t say anything more, both of them understood his meaning.

When school let out for lunch, the classroom environment was uncharacteristically orderly. Within three minutes, the students had evacuated in a disciplined and synchronized fashion, heading to the cafeteria to forage for food.

Only Yan Jinge and Bai Cheng remained in the classroom.

A maid delivered their lunch, and the two of them sat at their desks to eat.

Meanwhile, the students of Class Three were gathered in the cafeteria like a dense dark cloud, holding a meeting.

“Did you all see that?”

“Cough, to be honest, who didn’t?”

“I haven’t been able to study worth a damn all morning. I couldn’t stop myself from looking over at them. Seriously… I thought I was definitely going to improve on this monthly exam, but now that I’ve seen Bai Cheng, I’m starting to doubt myself.”

“…Quiet down for a second. Everyone, join this group chat.”

The student sitting behind Yan Jinge said, “Some of you probably noticed, but Bai Cheng gave me and my seatmate a specific warning today. He told us we can’t spread word about him and Yan Jinge. You’d better weigh your own worth before deciding whether to tell your friends in other classes. If something happens later, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

“Of course we can’t say anything! Yan Jinge is Tan Yuxuan’s Omega-”

Another person paused. “But if you ask me, Tan Yuxuan doesn’t deserve Yan Jinge’s affection at all.”

Ying Cheng immediately nodded in agreement. “Exactly! Jinge is a great person; he just got stuck in a dead end when it came to his feelings, being so devoted to that Tan Yuxuan. Now that he’s finally moved on and gotten together with Bai Cheng, I’m actually really happy for him.”

“Alright, this is the group. Everyone, use the face-to-face join feature. From now on, anything regarding Yan Jinge and Bai Cheng should only be posted in here. Don’t talk about it anywhere else. If word gets out and Bai Cheng comes looking for someone to blame, we’re going to do a thorough investigation. No one is going down with you…”

***

On the other side of town.

Tan Yuxuan looked like he had lost all will to live as he was dragged back into the club’s private booth.

The balloons had all been inflated. Some floated against the ceiling, some were shaped into hearts, and others littered the floor. The entire room looked much livelier than before, though it wasn’t the finished product yet.

“Tan Yuxuan, what was that other suggestion you gave us? A dessert table, right?” Yuan He asked. “We should buy some flowers to decorate it too. Tsk, I thought the balloons were a good idea when we suggested them, but now that I see the result, it looks a bit cliché. I wonder if the School Belle will even like it…”

“Yeah, I think it’s cliché too.”

“…Should we change the plan?”

Change the plan?!

Then were all those balloons he blew up for nothing?!

Tan Yuxuan spoke up immediately. “No need, let’s just leave it like this. I think it’s fine. If the School Belle doesn’t like it, then it just means we weren’t meant to be.”

Yuan He looked shocked. “How can you say that? If we’re going to do this, we have to do it right! This is the School Belle you like, after all-the one and only School Belle! Isn’t he worth it?”

Tan Yuxuan: “…”

Right now, Tan Yuxuan desperately wanted to travel back in time and strangle his past self.

Back when Yuan He and the others said they wanted to help him pursue the School Belle, Tan Yuxuan had been full of schemes. When Yuan He asked how he wanted to set things up, he had made several suggestions-all of which were incredibly troublesome, time-consuming, and labor-intensive. At the time, Tan Yuxuan never imagined he would have to do any of it himself; he figured they would just hire someone to set it up. Naturally, he had gone for the most grand and elaborate options possible.

And now, it was backfiring spectacularly!

After tormenting him for so long, Yuan He actually wanted to find *new* ways to keep messing with him?!

…He couldn’t let this continue.

After getting home around one in the morning the previous night, Tan Yuxuan had been so exhausted he fell asleep instantly. He had to wake up at six to get ready for school, so he hadn’t done any of his homework. Once he got to school, he could only claim he’d forgotten it at home.

Because his grades were usually good, the teacher believed him and told him to bring it in tomorrow.

Not only did he have to do today’s homework, but he also had to finish yesterday’s. Based on what these guys were saying, there was no way he was going home today either.

If this kept up, his grades would definitely drop, and the teacher might even call his parents.

With a cold expression, Tan Yuxuan began to contemplate how to escape this place and seek help.

He pretended to stand up casually, leaving his phone on the table. “You guys play cards for a bit. I’m going to the bathroom, then I’ll come back and we can talk about how to do the dessert table.”

“Sure.”

“Go ahead.”

The others glanced at his phone and didn’t think much of it.

His phone is still here, where could he possibly run to?

However, Yuan He had spent a long time around Bai Cheng and had learned to be cautious. Seeing Tan Yuxuan reach the door and prepare to exit, he also stood up. “Tell you what, I need to go too. No peeking at my cards!”

“Tan Yuxuan!” he shouted with a grin. “Let’s go together. We can even compare sizes while we’re at it.”

Tan Yuxuan, whose hand was already on the doorknob and was seconds away from freedom: “…”

Dammit!

Who the hell wants to compare sizes with you?!

Tan Yuxuan said coldly, “I forgot my phone. I’ll go grab it first.”

As he turned back, his mind raced.

Being forcibly confined in a private room by a few peers to blow up balloons was a pathetic situation to be in. Tan Yuxuan couldn’t bring himself to ask just anyone for help; it would be too humiliating. However, a suitable candidate immediately came to mind.
