Chapter 3

My mother crazily tried to pull me back.

But this engagement banquet could not continue. I ran to stand in front of Zhou Cheng, looked up at him, tears streaming down my cheeks.

“Zhou Cheng, take me away.”

Without hesitation, Zhou Cheng took my hand.

“Stop!”

My mother’s voice came through the microphone:

“Jiang Suisui, if you dare leave today, don’t ever call me Mom again!”

Her face was full of rage, but a hint of triumph glinted in her eyes.

My mother always used this tactic, knowing I wouldn’t leave her.

I pitied her for all the years we had depended on each other.

And that pity had become her leverage to encroach on my living space.

“Mom, you know I’ll never abandon you.”

Zhou Cheng’s grip tightened suddenly, and he let out a low sigh, murmuring to himself, “Suisui.”

I squeezed his hand back.

Zhou Cheng thought I would once again compromise for my mother.

But this time, I would never let go of him.

My mother’s expression softened. “Mom knew you’d be obedient.”

Beside her, Lin Yuan curled his lips and cursed, “Jiang Suisui, you’re really damn jinxed.”

I shouted loudly, “You’re the damn jinxed one, your whole family is jinxed!

“You were born from your mother and your second uncle. Your dad has been a lifelong cuckold, and whoever marries you has the worst luck for eight lifetimes!”

I spat out all the pent-up anger I’d held in for a lifetime.

A passionate outburst.

“If you don’t believe me, go home and check the bookshelf in your mother’s bedroom. There are still love letters between your mother and your second uncle.

“Oh, and by the way! Your second uncle is your real father, and your so-called dad is actually your uncle.”

Lin Yuan’s mother’s already gloomy face grew even uglier. His father and second uncle tried to rush over and beat me up but tripped over a stool and collapsed in a heap.

“Your family of four has such great camaraderie.”

I added a final jab, still unsatisfied.

Behind me, Zhou Cheng couldn’t help but chuckle softly.

A faint pang struck my heart. It felt so good-there was still a chance to hear Zhou Cheng’s laughter.

My mother’s face turned ashen, and she clutched her chest, panting for breath.

Relatives began to accuse me: “Do you want to anger your mother to death?”

I sneered, “My mother isn’t sick at all. Don’t curse her.”

My mother was in perfect health, even better than me.

I had made up my mind not to obey, no longer willing to let my mother control my life. Holding Zhou Cheng’s hand, I ran out of the hotel.

No one chased after us-after all, it was a new era, and my mother couldn’t force me into an engagement.

Besides, compared to me fleeing the engagement banquet, everyone was more concerned about who Lin Yuan’s real father really was.

What a huge spectacle!
