Something's Off About My Fox Disciple - Chapter 2

  3. Chapter 2

Everyone in the cultivation world loved gossip.

Within moments, news spread everywhere: the master of Luoxia Sect had spent a hundred thousand spirit stones buying the beastman once owned by Qingyun Sect’s master.

The Cultivation Daily ran several headlines in heavy black type.

#Su Yu’an Spends a Fortune for Love#

#Su Yu’an Steals Another’s Lover#

#At the Auction, My Master and I Fought Over the Same Man#

Outside, rumors flew while cultivators eagerly scrambled for every scrap of gossip.

Inside my room, I looked at Xie Ji and wondered what on earth to do.

In the original novel, the auction house had drugged him. Already frail, he had developed a high fever under its effects.

He lay on the bed with pale lips, his fox ears drooping. His chin tilted up, and discomfort filled his face.

Dense moonlight lay beyond the window. I looked up, down, left, right, unable to decide where to put my eyes.

“I think I’m thirsty. I’ll get some water.”

Xie Ji glanced at me and slowly loosened the clothes I had draped over him.

“This slave is ill. Forgive me for being unable to help my owner drink tonight.”

Help me?

Drink how?

I stared. When I turned, he was kneeling on the bed, exposing his pale, firmly muscled chest.

“What the hell? Who asked you to do that?”

As he struggled to stand, my face burned. I flung a black fox-fur cloak over him.

“Form is emptiness, emptiness is form. Just rest! I didn’t buy you to do that!”

I kept babbling.

What kind of cursed plot was this? Thank goodness a lifelong singleton like me had such strong self-control.

His dark eyes looked at me in confusion.

Right.

Only then did I remember: Xie Ji couldn’t hear.

Qingyun Sect’s master had deafened him.

The snowy fox ears atop his head were soft and beautiful. They looked wonderful to touch, and I couldn’t resist rubbing them.

“Poor little fox. You can’t hear anymore.”

His sensitive ears quivered. Woodenly, he murmured, “This slave was wrong.”

Unable to hear, he could only keep apologizing in terrified confusion.

I sighed.

Xie Ji had suffered all his life. A straight man abducted and violated, he would only reach the end of that chaotic, agonizing existence when the Qingyun sect master—the very man who had first destroyed him—took him back.

The little fox, tossed from one place to another for so long, would finally find a male lead who had truly reformed and would cherish him.

Before I entered the book, reading that ending had made me puke my guts out.

I seriously questioned the author’s mental state and values.

“You don’t need to demean yourself like that anymore.”

“I’m Su Yu’an, master of Luoxia Sect. I didn’t bid for you out of romantic desire. I simply took a liking to you.”

I wrote the words on paper. Meeting his lovely fox eyes, I asked patiently:

“Xie Ji, let the past be the past. Would you join Luoxia Sect, learn cultivation and swordsmanship, and protect yourself from now on?”

Xie Ji fell silent.

I left a set of Luoxia disciple robes by his bed and decided to give him three days to think.

I walked away, never hearing the soft, mocking laugh that came a moment later.

“How could the past ever be over…?”

In the faint candlelight, he tilted his head, looking all the more mysterious and unsettling.

“Su Yu’an?”

He rolled the three syllables over his tongue.

“Interesting.”
