Looking cool felt wonderful. Paying for it was hell.

After spending a hundred thousand spirit stones, this sect master didn’t have a coin left to her name.

I didn’t even dare finish my business in the toilet all at once, for fear I’d get hungry too soon.

Ling Cheng was waiting outside the Sect Master’s Hall first thing in the morning.

He had thought about it all night and still couldn’t understand why his master, who cultivated the Path of Detachment, had fought him for a man.

“Master, I meant to rescue that beastman yesterday and set him free. He was injured. I felt sorry for him.”

Would you listen to that? A man’s mouth could sell you any lie.

I gave him a contemptuous look.

Naturally, I couldn’t tell him that I knew all about his filthy intentions.

“Xie Ji has an exceptional constitution. Anyone can see he’s a promising cultivator. That’s why I paid to free him.”

Freed him. Not bought him. Xie Ji was a person, not merchandise.

Ling Cheng looked pained. “But that beastman isn’t worth a hundred thousand spirit stones… A worthless piece of secondhand goods.”

The subject of our conversation appeared in the doorway as he spoke.

At the sight of Xie Ji, Ling Cheng flushed with instinctive embarrassment.

Of all the men in that book, no wonder readers hated Ling Cheng most.

A foul-mouthed, manipulative obsessive.

Xie Ji couldn’t hear. His face showed nothing.

He stood against the light, his moon-white Luoxia robes making him look even taller and more ethereal.

I was delighted that the male lead had made up his mind so quickly.

“This sword, Frostblossom, is yours. From today onward, you are my disciple.”

The sword was beautiful from hilt to tip. Its pale blue tassel swayed gently.

When Xie Ji accepted it, I breathed a sigh of relief.

In the novel, Frostblossom had belonged to Xie Ji.

But Qingyun Sect’s master had stripped him of the right to wield a sword, determined to imprison him in bed for the rest of his life. His love was ruthless possession, devastation, and destruction.

Luckily, I had arrived early. Things hadn’t become quite that bad yet.

Xie Ji’s spiritual energy was depleted, so I could only have him begin with the basics of sword training.

After several days of teaching, he hadn’t made much progress.

I wrote him a note asking him to come to my room the following night.

Xie Ji lowered his eyes and curved his lips in apparent understanding, mockery flickering in his alluring eyes.

The next evening, I pushed open my door to find him wearing nothing but a thin red gauze robe.

Fox ears, half-exposed skin, bells at his ankles, a flush at the corners of his eyes.

I nearly choked. The sword manual inside my sleeve suddenly seemed to burn.

“What is this supposed to be?”

Xie Ji had drunk a little wine. A faint blush softened his cool, aloof face.

“I understand, Master. You saved my life. I should repay you with my body.”

When I stumbled backward, his long lashes lowered, casting a gloomy shadow.

“Or do you think I’m too dirty…?”

“N-no.”

Outside, vivid peach blossoms fell. Inside, the fire blazed. His robe hung loosely open, and nine fox tails slipped into view behind him.

So much fluff.

Damn it. Fox enchantment.

My mind went blank.

Xie Ji took the opportunity to lean closer. He obediently lowered his head into the crook of my neck, his slightly pointed canine teeth pressing into my skin.

“Then, Master…”

“There are nine tails under my covers. Would you like to come and play…?”
