Something's Off About My Fox Disciple - Chapter 4

What a fox spirit.

Looking at that dazzling face, the words came to me almost by instinct.

The air was thick with intimacy. I couldn’t help losing focus, and the mockery at his lips deepened.

Staring at the tails behind him, I abruptly wrote a question.

“Xie Ji, can you hide weapons in your tails?”

A crack appeared in his expression. “What?”

I rubbed my chin and kept writing. “If you concealed weapons in all nine tails, you could use them to escape as a last resort.”

Perhaps that would spare him some of the violence forced on him.

“Tonight, a partial lunar eclipse coincides with Uranus. Spiritual energy will gather from all beneath heaven. It’s an excellent time to cultivate.”

“Get dressed and sober up. Then tell me—are we practicing swordsmanship or not?”

Swordsmanship?

The poisoned needle hidden between Xie Ji’s long fingers stilled. His unreadable gaze fell on the paper.

Frostblossom traced graceful arcs through the air. I gave him real, sustained instruction until the horizon paled with dawn.

After my thirty-seventh yawn, I finally succumbed and drifted blissfully off to sleep.

Xie Ji turned to find his newly acquired master asleep in a wicker chair.

He stood silently before me, his shadow covering my body.

“How can you fall asleep so easily in front of me?”

A cold poisoned needle shot out. I happened to turn my head, and it skimmed past me into the ground. His brow twitched.

He had met plenty of people with honey on their tongues and knives in their hearts.

He stared at me and sneered.

“Su Yu’an, let’s see how long you can hide your own fox’s tail.”

My telltale tail never appeared.

His, on the other hand, kept coming out to show off.

Fox beastmen supposedly treasured their tails. Sensitive and vulnerable, they usually kept them hidden and protected. Xie Ji’s ostentation seemed unprecedented.

Unable to have him, Ling Cheng gathered the other disciples to gossip.

“Of course Xie Ji doesn’t care about his virtue. He came from the Songzhu Pleasure House. Qingyun Sect’s master kindly took him in afterward, but didn’t he still get discarded at an auction?”

“Someone born in the gutter with a reputation that rotten—what reputation does he have left to care about? Hahaha!”

Several disciples followed his lead, joining in the insults.

My brows drew together. I glanced at the perfectly composed Xie Ji beside me.

Thank goodness he couldn’t hear them.

I quickly wrote a note to send him elsewhere, then pushed into the disciples’ hall alone. My Ruyi Sword drove into a tall pillar with an unmistakable warning.

The original Su Yu’an had founded Luoxia Sect to help people and pass on a compassionate sword tradition, not to mock the weak and bully others.

I sentenced Ling Cheng to half a month of sweeping all three thousand steps.

It was the middle of the night before he dragged his exhausted body to bed. But the moment he climbed in, something sharp pierced his skin.

In the candlelight, a silver needle with a strange dark pattern stood out on the bedding.

Then the lights went out.

His sword on the table sensed danger and began to hum. A chill ran up his back.

An instant later, fox tails shot out and wound tightly around his neck and hands.

In the moonlight, Xie Ji toyed with a dagger and lifted his eyes languidly, dark and dangerous.

“If your mouth is that filthy, leave your tongue behind.”
