Chapter 32

Xu Yan and Da Tou sat on either side of Li Huainan.

Ruan Tian activated the card in her hand, and a shower of holy light rained evenly down on the three of them.

Xu Yan felt the wound on her arm begin to itch and lighten, a sign that her flesh was healing.

She glanced at her recovering wound, then looked at Ruan Tian in surprise. The other woman stood there as usual, casually, her expression indifferent, as if nothing could faze her.

Xu Yan suddenly felt a bit weak inside.

Sister Ruan wasn’t really as cold-blooded and heartless as she appeared.

The light rain lasted for half an hour before it ended.

Xu Yan was the least injured among them, so she recovered the fastest.

She moved her arms and legs, her eyes filled with delight.

“This Group Healing Card is amazing.”

“Even high-grade recovery fluid might not be this effective.”

Xu Yan looked at Ruan Tian, her eyes full of genuine gratitude. Her voice was softer than usual: “Thank you, Sister Ruan.”

“If you ever need anything from me, just tell me.”

Ruan Tian lazily lifted her eyes. She didn’t know what was up with Xu Yan, but she didn’t care.

She said, “Just clean up the house.”

Xu Yan patted her chest and promised, “Don’t worry, Sister Ruan. From now on, I’m a professional housekeeper. I’ll make sure your home is spotless, so you can live comfortably and at ease.”

Da Tou and Li Huainan were more seriously injured and needed more time to recover.

Xu Yan chatted with Ruan Tian for a while, then suddenly remembered something and asked, “Sister Ruan, what should we do with this woman?”

Not far away, the woman was tied to a tree trunk with thick rope. Her hair was messy, and her mouth was stuffed with cloth, so she could only make muffled sounds.

When Ruan Tian went after Zhang Yang (the leader), the woman tried to run, but Xu Yan had tied her up.

Mainly, she was Zhang Yang’s woman. Now that Zhang Yang was dead, if they let her go, she might go to Zhang Wang and inform on them.

Then, they’d be in trouble.

But Xu Yan couldn’t bring herself to kill a defenseless woman, so she tied her up and left her for Ruan Tian to deal with.

Xu Yan admitted she wasn’t exactly a good person either.

The woman had been struggling, but when she saw Ruan Tian look over, she instinctively shut her mouth and shrank away from sight.

This girl was terrifying.

So many people, and she killed them all without blinking.

She’d been with Zhang Yang for a long time and thought she’d seen plenty of cruel scenes, but nothing compared to this.

The woman knew she couldn’t afford to provoke someone like Ruan Tian.

She realized her chances of survival were slim, and tears began to stream uncontrollably down her cheeks.

Xu Yan said, “This woman is one of Zhang Yang’s women.”

“If…” She didn’t finish, wanting to say it wouldn’t be wise to let her go, but Ruan Tian interrupted.

Ruan Tian withdrew her gaze and said indifferently, “Let her go.”

“Huh?”

Xu Yan was stunned, her eyes full of surprise, but she quickly nodded, “Okay.”

The woman also looked at Ruan Tian in disbelief.

Her eyes, which had been full of fear, were now confused, then filled with barely concealed relief at her narrow escape.

Xu Yan untied her.

“You can go.”

The woman stole a glance at Ruan Tian. Seeing she wasn’t paying attention, she bit her lip and turned to run away.

Her steps were hurried and clumsy, her skirt caught on branches, but she didn’t care, afraid those behind her would change their minds.

Unlike Ruan Tian’s indifference, Xu Yan watched the direction the woman left, feeling troubled.

The Top Player wasn’t afraid of revenge, but Xu Yan was.

When Sister Ruan said to let the woman go, Xu Yan felt relieved, but also uneasy.

In this world, human life was as cheap as grass, but when it came to harming an innocent person, she just couldn’t do it.
It was true that the woman had been with Zhang Yang, but if life hadn’t forced her to a dead end, who would be willing to get entangled with someone like that?

But letting her go would mean endless trouble in the future… Xu Yan frowned, feeling as though a heavy stone was pressing on her heart, weighed down and chaotic.

The wound on Da Tou’s leg had already scabbed over. The once gruesome gash had closed; though he still couldn’t run, he was able to stand and walk normally.

He looked down at his leg, then looked up at Ruan Tian, his lips moving as if he wanted to say something, but in the end, he kept that gratitude in his heart.

Li Huainan’s face was still pale, but the rise and fall of his chest was much steadier, and his furrowed brow was slowly relaxing. Clearly, he was regaining his strength.

“Brother Li, you’re awake.”

Da Tou had been watching over him. When he saw him open his eyes, he immediately turned and shouted to Ruan Tian, “Sister Ruan, he’s awake!”

Li Huainan: “…”

He had just woken up, his mind still a little foggy, but Da Tou’s shout pulled him straight back to reality.

Li Huainan’s thoughts gradually returned.

Zhang Yang had someone tail him, and when he wasn’t paying attention, he fell for an ambush. His belongings were snatched away by Zhang Yang, then he was surrounded and attacked by a group. Two fists were no match for four hands, and after that, he remembered nothing.

Li Huainan propped himself up and sat: “Da Tou, did you save me?”

Da Tou shook his head, pointing at Ruan Tian not far away, his tone full of admiration: “It wasn’t me, it was Sister Ruan who saved you.”

His thoughts were always simple. Now that Li Huainan was fine, he grabbed him and muttered,

“Brother Li, you’re really lucky. Sister Ruan has taken a liking to you.”

Li Huainan: “???”

His eyes widened in disbelief: “What?”

He was already thirty, and looked very average. The other party was just a girl in her teens or early twenties-what could she possibly see in him?

His age?

He must still be groggy from waking up, imagining things.

Da Tou gave him a slap on the shoulder, not too hard or soft, eyes practically brimming with envy, and repeated, “Sister Ruan has taken a liking to you.”

Li Huainan: “…”

He still couldn’t believe it.

Xu Yan happened to walk over and gave him a slap on the head.

“What nonsense are you spouting.”

She turned to the slightly dazed Li Huainan and explained, “Don’t listen to Da Tou. Sister Ruan wants to find a cook, and you just happen to be a perfect match.”

“I knew it.”

“Scared me to death.”

Li Huainan let out a long sigh of relief.

The girl had saved him, and he’d even been thinking of refusing her-he really was something else.

Fortunately, she was after his cooking, not himself.

He could sell his skills, but would never sell his body.

Li Huainan wanted to get up and thank Ruan Tian, but as soon as he saw the ground covered in fragments of corpses, he couldn’t help but curse: “Damn.”

The ground was littered with broken limbs and chunks of flesh, mixed with dark red blood, the stench of blood rushing straight to his nose.

The sight made Li Huainan’s scalp tingle, and he froze in place.

Da Tou patted his arm, speaking with a tone of someone who’d been through it: “Brother Li, don’t be afraid. I believe in your cooking skills. As long as the food you make pleases Sister Ruan, you definitely won’t end up like them.”

“What do you mean?” Li Huainan’s voice was a bit tight as he stiffly turned his head, his gaze landing once more on the young girl not far away.

The girl stood with her back to them, her figure thin and slender, the wind lifting her long hair, making her seem somewhat delicate, completely unlike someone who could create such a bloody scene.

Li Huainan’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he put his arm around Da Tou’s shoulder and lowered his voice, “Tell me honestly… did that little girl really kill all these people?”

“Yeah.”

Da Tou answered without hesitation.

“Sister Ruan is really formidable.”

Li Huainan: “…”

He must have woken up the wrong way.

Lie down and wake up again.
