Chapter 33

Da Tou grew angry at seeing him looking so dispirited.

“Brother Li, even though you’re my brother, being able to cook for Sister Ruan is your good fortune. Don’t fail to appreciate it.”

What a blessing it was.

He wanted to cook for Sister Ruan himself, but never got the chance.

Li Huainan: “…”

Forget it, forget it. After all, the young lady had saved him; she just wanted to eat his cooking, which wasn’t an excessive request. The problem was, his backpack had been snatched by Zhang Yang, and he had nothing left. How was he supposed to cook? With what?

Ruan Tian walked over slowly, looking at Li Huainan who was still sitting on the ground, and said calmly, “You don’t want to?”

She had overheard some of their conversation.

She didn’t force people, but there was no need to keep someone useless around.

“Sister Ruan, it’s not…”

Da Tou had just started to speak when Ruan Tian shot him a look, and Da Tou shut his mouth.

Seeing Li Huainan remain silent, Da Tou grew anxious.

At the same time, he was afraid Li Huainan would say something Sister Ruan didn’t like and get himself killed with a single blow.

The surroundings suddenly quieted down.

A tense atmosphere spread silently.

Just as Ruan Tian was losing patience, Li Huainan spoke up, looking a bit troubled: “It’s not that I don’t want to.”

Seeing the young lady still watching him, Li Huainan simply said directly:

“Everything in my backpack was stolen. I don’t even have any seasoning, let alone a single vegetable leaf. Even if I wanted to cook something to thank you, I really can’t.”

Li Huainan didn’t know what this young woman was called. She looked quite young, and he couldn’t bring himself to call her Sister Ruan like Da Tou did.

After thinking for a moment, he said, “Little sister, how about this? I’ll owe you this meal for now. Let’s add each other as friends. Whatever you want to eat, just message me. Once I’ve gathered all the seasonings and ingredients, I’ll come to your place and cook for you when it’s convenient. How does that sound?”

After hearing Li Huainan’s words, Da Tou breathed a sigh of relief.

Great, Brother Li’s life was safe for now.

Li Huainan didn’t know that just hesitating for a moment had brought him to the Gate of Hell.

Ruan Tian waved her hand, dumping all the things she had collected from Zhang Yang’s backpack in front of Li Huainan.

“See which ones are yours?”

Li Huainan stared at the pile of things that had suddenly appeared, then looked at Ruan Tian: “???”

Uh, wait? Is this for real?

They just came back, fresh and intact?

His mind went blank for two seconds before he reacted.

Of course, none of these people were a match for her, so how could Zhang Yang have escaped?

It was only natural that his things ended up in her hands.

Li Huainan picked out his own belongings from the pile-his homemade seasonings, Weapon Cards, food, everything was there.

Getting his things back put Li Huainan in a great mood.

He raised his hand grandly and said,

“Everything’s here. Little sister, tell me what you want to eat, and I’ll make it for you.”

Ruan Tian frowned.

Little sister?

By age, she could be the ancestor of everyone here.

“Don’t call me little sister. My name is Ruan Tian. You can use my name.”

“Oh, okay, Ruan… Ruan…”

Just as Li Huainan was about to nod, he suddenly reacted and turned sharply to look at Ruan Tian, his voice nearly cracking: “What did you say your name was?”

“Ruan Tian.”

Li Huainan: “…”

Such a familiar name.

How could it not be? He had just chatted about this name in the Chat Hall yesterday.

Li Huainan’s expression shifted dramatically… it was quite a show.

Luckily, he hadn’t spoken ill of her.

Xu Yan patted his shoulder and muttered beside him, “Now you know how presumptuous you were just now, right?”

Li Huainan, still unconvinced, forced a smile and asked, “Is it the Ruan Tian I’m thinking of?”
Xu Yan nodded affirmatively.

Who else but her could have this kind of skill?

Li Huainan swallowed silently. Was it too late for him to change his tune now?

Ruan Tian couldn’t be bothered to guess what they were thinking. “If nothing’s missing, just come with me.”

After speaking, Ruan Tian didn’t even look at them and walked off directly.

“So soon?”

Though he said that, Li Huainan still honestly followed Ruan Tian’s pace.

Xu Yan and Da Tou hesitated for a moment, then caught up to Ruan Tian to talk to her.

She secretly observed Ruan Tian’s expression and said carefully, “Sister Ruan, Da Tou and I actually came out today specifically to grind mobs, so we might not be able to head back with you.”

Ruan Tian’s tone was indifferent: “Do as you please.”

She wasn’t here to find them in the first place.

Where they were going or what they planned to do, she didn’t care at all.

Seeing that she wasn’t angry, Xu Yan quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

Da Tou took the opportunity to pull Li Huainan aside and earnestly advised, “Brother Li, Sister Ruan has a bit of a temper. In the future, when you’re around her, talk less and do more. Don’t make her angry.”

Li Huainan said unconcernedly, “It’s fine, isn’t it just one…” Meal?

Wait, something’s off.

What does he mean by ‘following Sister Ruan from now on’?

Why didn’t he understand?

Li Huainan asked directly, “What do you mean? I’m just cooking one meal for her, right?”

“What does ‘following her’ mean?”

“Who am I following?”

Da Tou looked at him as if he were an idiot.

“Of course you’re following Sister Ruan.”

“Brother Li, you’re going to be Sister Ruan’s dedicated cook from now on…”

He paused and corrected himself, “Oh, no…”

Just as Li Huainan was about to sigh in relief, Da Tou continued.

He was used to his freedom-how could he stand having such a major figure looming over him?

Obviously, he relaxed too soon.

Da Tou’s next words left Li Huainan in despair.

“You haven’t passed Sister Ruan’s test for hiring a cook yet. You’re just pending.”

Just as Li Huainan had a thought, Da Tou went on, “Brother Li, don’t do anything stupid. If Sister Ruan’s not satisfied, she’ll kill you on the spot.”

Li Huainan: “…”

He suspected Da Tou was treating him like someone from Sakura Country.

But he had no evidence.

Would it kill him to finish a sentence all at once?

Xu Yan started urging Da Tou as well-they’d already wasted a lot of time today.

If they didn’t go grind mobs and forage wild vegetables, they’d run out of food and go hungry.

“Sigh, I can’t talk to you anymore. Sister Yan’s calling me.”

Before leaving, Da Tou saw the utter despair on Li Huainan’s face and offered a word of comfort:

“Brother Li, smile! We’ll see each other again in three days.”

“Of course, I just hope I’ll still see you then.”

Li Huainan: “…”

Get lost!

How did he never notice before how annoying Da Tou was?

Li Huainan silently followed behind Ruan Tian, several times wanting to speak but stopping himself.

Ruan Tian heard, but didn’t care.

The two walked out of the forest, one in front, one behind.

Gangzi was squatting next to the tricycle, swatting mosquitoes out of sheer boredom.

He himself was still hungry, yet somehow the mosquitoes had gotten their fill first.

Damn it.

Thinking of the culprit who made him wait here, Gangzi’s resentment was bigger than a ghost’s, and he swatted mosquitoes even faster.

He might not be able to beat that terrifying woman, but he could sure deal with these mosquitoes!

You want to suck blood? I’ll swat you all dead.

All his personal grievances were taken out on the mosquitoes.

“What are you doing?”

As soon as Gangzi heard that voice, he knew the goddess of doom was back.

His sullen face broke into a smile as he turned, fawning, “Sis, you’re back from your errands.”

“Sis, that must’ve been tough.”

“Just killing mosquitoes here-I thought, if they bothered you when you got back, it’d be bad if they disturbed your peace, right?”
