Chapter 113

Yes, it was him.

Beili sighed helplessly to herself. That guy had made sure her plans for today went nowhere.

Furthermore, to deal with the black bear, Beili had hurriedly mobilized all her Mana to summon every one of her Morpho Butterflies. Even though Clarence had suddenly appeared and subdued the bear, allowing her to recall all the Morpho Butterflies, she had still lost a third of her Mana in the process.

So, the tally was: that guy had stalled her plans and cost her a third of her Mana. It was a total loss, through and through!

Because of this, Beili planned to slack off tonight.

…

“So it really was the Second Prince.”

Madam Constance smiled softly, her expression turning quite gossipy as she asked, “Luoluo, are you…?”

Sigh… Madam Constance was always like this.

“No.”

As if guessing what the other woman was about to say, Beili quickly interrupted her. She immediately rolled over, giving her mother a sullen view of her back.

“Luoluo, perhaps the Second Prince isn’t a good choice.”

Madam Constance let out a couple of soft chuckles behind her hand before her tone shifted, dropping into a lower register. “You must know that Prince Cyril has always been the sole heir to the throne, and more than half of the Noble families are willing to follow him…”

“Mother, you’re overthinking it.”

Beili didn’t follow Madam Constance’s train of thought and simply explained, “He’s not interested in the throne at all.”

“Then what is he interested in?” Madam Constance asked with a smile.

“He’s interested in Susanna,” Beili said bluntly.

Madam Constance paused, her voice sounding surprised yet gentle. “Tell Mama about it. I want to hear what happened today.”

“You really want to know?”

“Of course, darling. I can’t bear to see you looking so miserable.”

“I disrupted the time Cyril and Susanna were spending together and kept Clarence away from Susanna, all to create an opportunity for the Second Prince,” Beili said gloomily.

This wealth of information caused Madam Constance’s expression to turn subtle in an instant. The gentle smile remained on her lips, but her eyebrows were knit together.

Madam Constance struggled to process this for a moment before she recovered, saying slowly, “Oh, so the Second Prince… likes Susanna, and Luoluo… you’re acting as a matchmaker for them?”

To be young is wonderful, if a bit complicated, Madam Constance thought helplessly to herself.

Beili was so frustrated by the memory that she laughed. She sat up abruptly in bed.

“Yes, but he acted like a tree today! The noble Second Prince-he had no idea what to do!”

It was as if a dam had burst; the young girl began recounting the day’s absurdities to Madam Constance.

…

“Luoluo, based on your description…”

“Perhaps… the Second Prince doesn’t have any feelings for Susanna at all.”

Madam Constance nodded knowingly, speaking with the tone of someone who had seen it all. “If he liked her, his actions would have come naturally.”

“He doesn’t like her?” Beili asked blankly.

Did Ashera like Susanna in the Original Book? Was it possible that in the original story, Ashera had approached Susanna with some other motive in mind?

Beili couldn’t help but sink into her memories.

“If someone is in love, others can tell at a glance. Just like how Prince Cyril likes you instead of Susanna-Mama could tell immediately… Oh, and now there’s that boy from the Wolf Family too.”

Madam Constance was full of confidence. As she spoke, she looked at the grey-haired, red-eyed girl with a proud gaze that said, ‘Who wouldn’t love my daughter?’

Beili said helplessly, “Mother, stop it…”

Her drifting thoughts were pulled back as she remembered Clarence’s flushed face today. It was actually quite embarrassing. If Beili had known that applying the ointment would make the boy’s face turn that red, she certainly wouldn’t have acted so rashly.

“You didn’t see him just now, leaning against a tree trunk, asking me with such shy concern, ‘Why hasn’t Miss Bartholomew appeared? Was she frightened?'”

Madam Constance mimicked Clarence’s bashful expression and tone. “Oh… that boy’s little dodging glances were quite interesting…”

“In any case.”

Madam Constance gently pinched Beili’s cheek. “Luoluo, forget about the Second Prince. Mama just wants to tell you that the bonfire party outside the tents is very lively. You might feel better if you go.”

Beili shook her head and flopped back onto the bedding, making an excuse. “It’s not because of anyone else. I’m just a bit tired. Maybe I really was scared by the black bear. I want to go to sleep early.”

Beili still intended to slack off.

She wanted the person who initiated this task to know that if he didn’t cooperate actively, it would be very difficult to continue their partnership.

“Alright, darling, then get some rest.”

Madam Constance had been looking forward to seeing Bartholomew dancing with the noble young lords. She stood up with a helpless sigh and said, “Susanna’s tent has been set up today, so she won’t disturb you. But if you change your mind, you can come out at any time.”

With that, Madam Constance tucked her in and walked out.

…

The tent flap lifted, and the sounds of cheerful music, people moving about, and laughter immediately drifted in. It wasn’t until Madam Constance let go and the flap fell back into place that the outside noise became muffled again.

Beili pulled up the covers, burying herself completely once more.

She forced herself to try and sleep.

Actually, there was another reason for sleeping so early. It was because she and Ashera had an agreement-she was supposed to absorb Mana tonight.

To put it another way, she had to go kiss Ashera again tonight.

However, Beili felt a bit of resistance toward the idea now.

It had nothing to do with the Mana itself. Absorbing Mana from Ashera was much easier and faster than taking it from corpses, graves, or people tainted by sin, and it didn’t come with that bone-chilling sensation. Aside from his lips being a bit cold, there were no issues at all.
