Survival Guide After Accidentally Kissing a Demon - Chapter 184
Chapter 184
Even Madam Constance had lost contact with Doctor Cassius.
“Mother, think carefully-”
Beili furrowed her brows slightly, her red eyes sharpening as she asked, “When was the last time you spoke with Doctor Cassius? What did you talk about?”
“The last time?”
Madam Constance pulled out her Communication Orb and began scrolling through the records, trying to recall.
“The last time I spoke with Doctor Cassius was right when you returned from Rose Town, Luoluo.”
Madam Constance spoke slowly. “At that time, Doctor Cassius realized his leave of absence was over and intended to return to continue looking after you.”
“However, since you were already planning to return to Butterfly Valley, I told Doctor Cassius that the Commission Order had concluded.”
At this point, Madam Constance paused. As if suddenly remembering something, she let out a soft “Oh” and added, “Right, there was one more thing. Doctor Cassius asked me if the report in the Royal Post was true.”
“The Royal Post?”
Beili was momentarily stunned.
The image from the Post flashed through her mind again-the picture of her and Ashera kissing on the bench.
“Yes, Luoluo. If Doctor Cassius hadn’t asked me, I wouldn’t have even bothered to have someone bring me the latest edition of the Post.”
“The Royal Post-”
Madam Constance trailed off, giving the young girl a subtle, knowing smile.
“I never read such boring things.”
While Beili was lost in thought, Madam Constance’s brow furrowed as she continued, “Thinking back on it now, Doctor Cassius sounded terribly sad at the time.”
Sad?
Seeing the girl’s red eyes widen, Madam Constance explained further, “Luoluo, I’ve told you before that Doctor Cassius is very close with the Constance Family. We’ve known each other for many years. Even without seeing his expression, I can tell he’s sad just by the sound of his voice.”
Did Doctor Cassius feel sad after seeing the report?
Beili pondered this, her eyes casting downward.
She looked down to see the Black Lamb in her arms tilting its head up, its golden eyes ‘staring’ at her without blinking.
It had clearly sensed the shift in her heart.
Though Beili knew those golden eyes couldn’t actually see, she still felt a sense of pressure emanating from its gaze.
“Don’t worry, Mother.”
She reined in her emotions and spoke calmly. “Doctor Cassius isn’t that fragile. Try contacting him again over the next few days; you might get through eventually.”
Unlike Madam Constance, Beili was more inclined to believe that Doctor Cassius had caught wind of the Royal Family searching for him and had gone into hiding, rather than believing he had fallen ill.
Otherwise, this ageless vampire wouldn’t have been able to survive peacefully through all these long years.
Beili carried the Black Lamb back to her room.
As soon as she placed the lamb on a chair, the silver-haired boy in a Black Robe appeared in its place in the blink of an eye.
His short, silver wolf-cut hair was always slightly messy.
Now that it was just the two of them, the boy rarely wore his mask. His gloomy, pale face was tilted slightly, revealed to her without any reservation.
He had his head tilted.
He was either sensing something or overthinking.
“Stop overthinking,”
Beili spoke first, interrupting his thoughts.
“If you’re bored, you can have a hard candy.”
The boy’s thin, cold lips curled into a faint smile, and then he told her-
“He… he hid the candy.”
“Then tomorrow, we’ll go into the town at Butterfly Valley and buy you another jar,”
Beili said. She walked to the bedside and flopped down lazily, then pulled a notebook out of her Spatial Bracelet, reading as she thought.
She’d only been looking for a little while when the boy stuck close again.
First, he asked for a hug as naturally as breathing.
Then, just as naturally, he asked for a kiss.
…
After rolling over and pinning him on the bed, Beili drew in a soft breath and fought to drag her sanity back. Still holding him down, she started talking about the heart.
“Your heart…”
The rims of her ears were still stained a faint cherry pink, but she forced her tone to stay serious. “It’s inside the King of Santos.”
The boy licked his lower lip, showing no reaction at all-as if she’d just said something as ordinary as “the weather’s nice today.”
Ashera had always been like this when it came to these things, Beili remembered.
Like he didn’t care in the slightest.
Maybe he’d always known where it was. After all, it had been separated from his own body.
A Demon had no reason not to sense something like that.
If he hadn’t said it out loud, maybe it was because he couldn’t.
Beili made the guess silently.
Even though he still didn’t speak, Beili thought for a moment and went ahead with her initial plan-
“After Cyril’s Coming-of-Age Ceremony, the King plans to take the heart out and put it into Cyril’s body. That might be our best chance to get it back. So you should return to the palace.”
His reaction up to that point had been calm, like he was listening to something utterly unimportant, but at her last sentence, he paused.
“Are you… are you tr-trying to make me go?”
His lashes trembled as he stammered it out.
“I’m not driving you away.”
Beili caught his hand and squeezed gently in reassurance. “I’m telling you to go back and get ready.”
If it really came down to it, he could always eat a few Mages around the King-gain Mana, and also remove a few people who might get in the way.
The boy lifted those hollow golden eyes and spoke in a faint voice:
“But I want… I want to be with you… ev-every day.”
How could someone say something like that so naturally?
Beili’s ears, which had only just returned to normal, turned red again in a flash.
She blinked her red eyes, desperately trying to figure out what she should say right now that would make her look calm and composed.
Meanwhile, the boy had already sensed her emotional shift. The corners of his cold, thin lips lifted slightly.
“You want to be with… with me too… I can fe-feel it.”
He said it softly.
Beili wanted to cover his mouth.
“Anyway, if the heart leaves the King’s body, can you take it back?”
She reached up to smooth the silver hair falling along his cheek as she asked.
His hollow golden eyes blinked once. Beili could feel him struggling with it.
A moment later, he nodded lightly.
“If the heart le-leaves the body… I can ta-take it back.”
…
The heart-swapping plan had originally been scheduled for after Cyril’s Coming-of-Age Ceremony.
But now there was still a full week until the ceremony, and Doctor Cassius was still nowhere to be found.
It left the whole plan with no choice but to pause for the time being.
Ashera didn’t want to go, and Beili stopped trying to force him to leave.
The two of them stayed in Butterfly Valley for several days.
During the day, they’d wander through the valley, taking in the scenery and breathing in the scent of flowers.
Even though the boy couldn’t see, she could describe it to him.
