Chapter 206

Beili’s expression stiffened, and she remained silent for a long while.

Though he had spoken cryptically and tactfully, Ashera seemed to already know that she was aware of the heart. Or perhaps he was testing her-though that possibility seemed slim.

“Now that you have the eyes…”

She bit her lip slightly, her eyes dimming as her voice carried a faint, imperceptible tremor.

“What do you plan to do next?”

“Now that I have the eyes, I must put them to good use first, of course.”

Ashera let out a low chuckle. His eyelashes fluttered as he lowered his golden gaze, staring at her with a deep, lingering smile. The abyss-like shadows swirling in the depths of his eyes grew increasingly dense.

His fingers hooked around a lock of her hair.

“My dear Little Butterfly, so your hair is actually gray… like the thick fog that blankets a graveyard.”

His fingers gently brushed over her eyelashes.

“Beautiful red eyes… No wonder their emotions always turned so strange whenever you looked at them.”

His thumb pressed lightly against her lower lip.

“As for your lips… they are exactly the shape I imagined. Perhaps because of our many kisses.”

Ashera sighed and laughed softly.

“…”

He said a great deal, but he never directly answered her question.

Beili knit her brows slightly before quickly smoothing them over.

In truth, she didn’t want to hear it either.

If she heard Ashera say something like, ‘Now that I have the eyes, I must take the heart,’ or ‘After the eyes, I’ll take the torso and then the heart’-she wouldn’t be able to accept it, regardless of the order.

Things had reached this point; there was nothing left to say.

“I want to go see Princess Renee…” Beili said softly, her red eyes downcast.

Lance must be devastated by now. Even though Princess Renee was a bit mad, it was clear that Lance doted on his younger sister.

Though Princess Renee had nothing to do with her…

Fine. She just wanted to escape this atmosphere.

“Hmm?”

“Are you concerned about that child? Or are you thinking about that child’s brother?”

Ashera’s lips curled into a faint, sinister smile, his laughter turning dark.

“Then do you want to know what kind of expression that child had when she gouged out her own eyes?”

“Shall we go tell her brother together? We can tell him that she wasn’t in any pain at all. Not a bit.”

“Do you think her brother will feel better if we comfort him like that?”

“…”

Others might not understand, but Beili’s heart felt incredibly heavy.

She could already envision Ashera, at some point in the future, using some method to make her gouge out her own heart, only to say-

‘This child was a bit disobedient; it took a long time to get the heart back.’

‘To punish this disobedient child, I made sure she felt excruciating pain when she carved out her heart.’

…

Princess Renee might be able to survive without her eyes, but could Beili survive without a heart?

Just thinking about it made her feel oppressed and suffocated.

She didn’t even dare look up at Ashera.

Her heart felt as if it had been filled with lead, thumping heavily against her ribs.

“Ashera-”

She suddenly spoke up.

“I want to leave you.”

…

She was met with a deathly silence.

Ashera did not speak.

He was perfectly still.

After a long moment, he slowly tilted his head down.

A pair of golden eyes shimmered with a predatory, dark light in the shadows, his dark red vertical pupils constricting until they were as thin as paper.

“Did you just say… you want to leave me?”

He repeated her words back to her, questioning.

“What would make you think such a thing?”

His voice was light, like a night breeze gently brushing against a black feather, yet the feather remained rooted in place.

But-

Murderous intent.

Beili saw a surge of intense killing intent churning from the depths of Ashera’s golden eyes.

A near-manic dark light spilled out from within them.

“Ashera…”

She panicked instantly, struggling to calm herself down and reason with him.

She scrambled for the right words, but before she could think them through, they blurted out:

“Nothing good will come of us being together.”

“Is that so?”

Ashera’s tone suddenly became exquisitely tender.

“Why wouldn’t it end well?”

He slowly reached out, gently stroking her hair.

“What kind of result do you think counts as a good one?”

He pulled her closer, murmuring hoarsely in her ear, “Wouldn’t it be the best result if I took you to Hell with me?”

His voice was like the intimate whisper of a lover.

But-

Cold.

It was freezing; the bone-chilling cold radiating from him sent shivers through her entire body.

At the peak of the chill, her shoulders, back, and limbs all trembled.

“You…”

She took a deep breath, her chest heaving as she tried to maintain a calm tone to explain. “You’ve misunderstood me… Ashera… when I said we should part, I didn’t mean we’d never speak or see each other again…”

“We’re just ending our relationship as lovers…”

“After all, the decision to be together was a bit impulsive… After thinking it over… we’re actually better suited as friends…”

She finished the sentence with difficulty, shivering all the while.

However, fear and the instinct for survival gradually seized her mind the moment the words left her mouth.

Perhaps she had brought up the breakup too suddenly.

Perhaps she shouldn’t have said it now.

Oh…

This was terrible…

…

Ashera let out a low laugh.

At the same time, blood-red tears began to flow from his eyes again.

The tears weren’t clear like normal ones; they were like blood on the verge of coagulating-flowing slowly and thickly.

“Now that you’ve seen me in my grief, you plan to abandon me, is that it?”

Black veins began to crawl around his golden eyes.

“Little Butterfly, why are you doing this to me?”

He was crying even as he smiled.

He was heartbroken.

Seeing Ashera like this, Beili felt as if someone had gripped her heart.

“Ashera, I take back what I just said. Let’s both calm down first.”

She regretted it immediately.

She needed to slow down. Perhaps it would be better to bring up the breakup again once he had adjusted to the idea.

“You’re just trying to stall for time. You still want to leave me, don’t you?”

Ashera raised a hand to clutch half of his face.

His golden eyes were filled with laughter-a manic laugh, a dangerous laugh, a sorrowful laugh.

Suddenly, he reached out and grabbed her neck, his fingertips sinking deep into her skin.

“Why? Didn’t you want to see me sad? Now you’ve seen it, so why do you still want to leave me?”

He leaned down, his icy lips covering hers as a freezing chill swept over her like a storm.

That chill was like a dying snake; cold, desperate emotions were transmitted through the press of their teeth.

A powerful sense of oppression and a heavy scent of blood overwhelmed everything, as if the entire night sky had collapsed, pinning her down beneath its weight.

Beili could barely breathe.

“Mmph…”

She began to tremble.
