Chapter 226

Whenever Ashera appeared in his Youth Form, Beili instinctively wanted to see him get angry.

This was because, in this form, Ashera had to suppress his temper to maintain his persona.

Oh, of course.

Ashera in this state was a total crybaby. Besides being afraid of his ferocity, Beili was also afraid of his tears.

“What are we doing tomorrow?”

To prevent the boy from brewing tears, Beili patted his head and changed the subject.

“No… nothing…”

The boy replied in a muffled voice.

“During the meal, the King of Nauze called you ‘brother’-”

‘Ashera… Elvis.’

‘If you… if you want… I can… also be called… Ashera Fitzgerald.’

Recalling what the boy had said before, a glimmer flashed through Beili’s deep red eyes as she said softly, “Are you actually the child of the former kings of the three kingdoms-Sainthos, Nauze, and Tilisha?”

In the darkness, the boy seemed to blink. His eyelashes brushed lightly beneath her ear, carrying a hint of an itch.

Then, Beili heard him give a soft “Mm.”

“Then what is the King of Nauze’s goal?”

Beili asked curiously.

“It’s obvious the King is trying to please you right now. Although he said he hopes you’ll stay in the Nauze Kingdom, there must be another purpose, right?”

Hearing her words, the boy said softly, “He hopes I… I can grant… one of his wishes… He hopes he… can avoid death.”

As if feeling this wasn’t something that needed to be hidden, the boy paused and added, “Just like… Cumberland Elvis…”

Cumberland Elvis-His Majesty the King of Sainthos.

As expected-

She knew about Ashera’s identity as a Demon through the original story.

Besides her, there were three other people in this Western fantasy world who knew Ashera’s identity: the Former Kings of the three kingdoms-Sainthos, Nauze, and Tilisha.

Before his death, the Former King of Nauze must have mentioned something about Ashera being a vessel for a Demon, which was why the King of Nauze wanted to find him.

That explained why he was so agitated when he saw him again.

However-

The three Former Kings held three of the Demon’s items. Why did they wait until they were on their deathbeds to reveal the secret?

Beili suddenly remembered the King of Nauze mentioning that he had sought out countless Spiritualist Mages, attempting to use spirit possession to get the Former King to clarify his unfinished words.

But they could never find the Former King’s soul.

If she wasn’t mistaken, the three Former Kings had traded their own souls to the Demon in exchange for those three items.

Aside from souls, Beili couldn’t think of anything else that would interest a Demon.

That was why their souls vanished after those three men died.

…

“Then… can you really grant it?”

The boy was silent for a while, then said slowly, “If he… he… is willing.”

‘He’?

Beili paused for a moment before realizing the boy was referring to the man with the curved Black Goat Horns on his head.

“Can he really grant Cumberland Elvis eternal life?”

Beili asked.

The boy gave neither a positive nor a negative answer.

“He had Cumberland… Elvis… find a sat… satisfactory body first…”

Hearing this answer, Beili suddenly realized that many things had successfully connected together.
Ashera and Cumberland Elvis struck a deal.

Following Ashera’s lead, Cumberland Elvis set his sights on Cyril.

If he wanted to escape the Reaper’s scythe, he would have to seize his son’s body.

A perfect physique, superb magical comprehension, and the first-in-line heir to Sainthos.

Every condition indicated that his son, Cyril, was the best choice.

This was despite the fact that not long ago, he had personally told Cyril that he would give him his most precious heart.

Cumberland Elvis did not want to die, while Ashera wanted the identity of the Second Prince of Sainthos.

He sought that identity simply to make it easier to be with her.

Demons never keep simple promises; they don’t even honor formal Contracts.

From the very start of Hunting Day-

Both she and Cumberland Elvis had been deceived by the Demon.

…

Beili had known this ever since she emerged from Doctor Cassius’s memories.

However, as she pieced the sequence of events together, the truth was laid bare before her once again.

And it was hauntingly clear.

Beili fell silent instantly.

The warm, soft bed suddenly felt cold and hard.

It was so cold she wanted to shiver.

Beili turned her head away, looking toward the room’s window.

A wisteria vine grew outside, climbing the walls and window frames, hanging clusters of pale purple blossoms that looked like grapes.

On the ground below, light blue anemones, deep blue drooping roses, and pale yellow daffodils were planted in a deliberate, interlacing pattern.

Insects hiding among the leaves let out loud chirps, filling the momentary void of silence.

“…W-what’s wrong?”

As if sensing the girl’s sudden drop in mood, the youth looked up and asked softly.

Beili didn’t answer immediately.

Only after a long while did she speak, her voice devoid of emotion as she uttered two words.

“It’s nothing.”

The youth propped himself up with his arms.

In the darkness, he tilted his head to sense her emotions while looking down at her with his golden eyes.

His cold fingertips brushed against her face.

After stroking her for a moment, the youth whispered:

“You’re… you’re angry. And… and sad.”

“I’m just thinking quietly,” the girl replied in a calm tone.

The youth lowered his head, preparing to press a kiss to her lips.

A flicker of blue-green light fluttered over on wings, landing on the girl’s lips and blocking him.

The youth paused, his lips twitching slightly. He changed his soothing gesture to a pat on the head.

“Don’t… don’t be sad.”

As he spoke, his eyelashes curved slightly like crescents.

The blue-green light emitted by the Morpho Butterflies resting on her lips was reflected in his dark gold eyes.

“I like you… it’s true… He likes you… it’s… it’s also true.”

The youth spoke slowly, making every word clear.

…

Beili’s lips quirked into a faint smile before she quickly pulled back.

“Who asked you about that?”

She let out a cold snort, blowing the Morpho Butterflies away from her lips as she did so.

The youth gave a muffled chuckle.

Then, taking something out from who-knows-where, he flipped his hand over. A round object suddenly appeared in his palm.

“He gave me this,” the youth whispered.
