Chapter 273

Beili pulled away from the body she had occupied in the dream and floated in midair like a wisp of a ghost, looking down at everything below from a god’s-eye view.

A dozen or so villagers had surrounded two people.

The silver-haired boy was half crouched on the ground, holding the Gray-haired Girl in his arms.

The villagers were stunned into silence by the sudden turn of events. For a moment, not a sound could be heard.

No one had expected something like this to happen.

They looked at one another, at a loss for what to say.

One of the men opened his mouth. He had been about to suggest that blocking the place like this was pointless now. Since she had already fainted, they could only wait for her to wake up and come back later.

After all, everyone could tell that the one in charge of this household was the gray-haired female Noble, not the silver-haired male Noble.

But the moment the man shifted his feet and opened his mouth, before he could get a word out-

the silver-haired male Noble suddenly lifted his head.

His golden eyes were filled with a chilling killing intent.

With a thunderous boom, a powerful and evil force erupted in an instant.

In the blink of an eye, everyone standing before him was struck by that force and burst apart like overripe fruit, turning into a cloud of blood mist.

The stench of blood spread at once, staining the surrounding ground and walls red.

Only the boy remained, holding the girl in his arms, standing amid the carnage.

The terrifying sight was witnessed by the others nearby.

Their eyes flew wide. After a moment of absolute terror, horrified screams rang through the entire village.

“Oh-help!”

“Monster!”

“Something more terrifying than disaster has appeared!”

Their faces drained of color, their legs going weak, the people fled on instinct.

Among the crowd scattering in every direction, Beili saw the village chief-the leader who had led the group when they first migrated here-as well as the village’s council member, Ah Qiang the Crocodile Half-beast, who had helped build the mud houses before.

She even had a feeling that these people had come because they had heard the news that the two of them were surrounded and wanted to mediate.

‘Look what you’ve done…’

One of the Morpho Butterflies fluttered affectionately around her thoughts, its wings shimmering with dreamlike light.

Beili sighed and asked in confusion,

‘So this is why I fainted so suddenly?’

The Morpho Butterflies lightly beat its wings and told her-

She had already been infected with the pox. But because of the butterfly’s self-healing system, her body had never shown any obvious blistering symptoms.

‘Did Little Black infect me?’

Beili’s brows drew together slightly as she pressed for an answer.

The Morpho Butterflies told her again-

She had infected Little Black, as well as the other livestock and the people in this village.

A trace of gloom entered her eyes, and Beili let out another helpless sigh.

‘So this is your plan?’

Earlier…

When Beili saw that the Dream Cage was about to be completed, she had asked the Morpho Butterflies to help come up with another rough plan-one that would allow her to leave this dream naturally.

A plan with no loopholes, nothing that would make anyone notice something was wrong.

But now, this plan was very obviously full of holes.

‘You know I have the Butterfly Bloodline, plus the Demon heart. The Immortal Butterfly the King of Santos is searching for is practically me.’

‘So there is no way I’ll die from being infected with the pox.’

Beili said bluntly,

‘If I collapse like this, that guy is definitely going to fall apart. Then he’ll keep doubting himself and digging through every little detail from before, piece by piece. Once that happens, he’ll quickly notice that something is wrong.’

Although the Dream Cage had already taken shape, it was still very unstable. After all, this guy was not an ordinary person.

He was a Demon.
Besides, there was an even smarter form inside his body.

So dying of illness would not work.

‘I have to return the heart to him. I have to let him get his heart back. Once he has his heart… he won’t think of me anymore.’

Beili repeated it silently, her thoughts sinking into despondence.

The Morpho Butterflies danced slowly and lightly through the air.

Nourished by Mana, the Morpho Butterflies had already begun to develop a faint spiritual awareness. It nestled affectionately against her thoughts, as if offering comfort.

As long as she locked him inside a dream, if she missed him, she could enter the dream and see him whenever she wanted.

That was the message the Morpho Butterflies conveyed to her.

Receiving that simple and brutally direct idea from the Morpho Butterflies, Beili smiled helplessly.

“If only things really were that simple.”

She shook her head gently and murmured to herself.

This was the choice she had made from the very beginning. No matter what happened along the way, no matter what changes occurred, it would not change the ending brought about by that choice.

You seem unable to bear treating him like this. Do you want to remain forever in an illusory dream?

That was what the Morpho Butterflies asked her.

The Morpho Butterflies were spiritual bodies condensed from the Mana flowing through the channels of her body. They were almost synchronized with her thoughts, her moods, and her ideas.

They simply did not possess her emotions.

Beili’s thoughts fell silent for a long while. She lowered her gaze and looked at the silver-haired youth who had begun to panic. He cut open his own wrist, sucked in a few mouthfuls of his blood, then fed it back to her.

‘You’re right, but I…’

Her thoughts broke off.

The slanting sunlight fell across the two of them.

Only then did she notice that the shadow the youth cast upon the ground was the figure of a man with curved ram horns on his head.

Beili swallowed.

“It’s nothing. Let’s proceed according to plan, but the plan needs to be changed a little.”

She spoke slowly.

The Morpho Butterflies fluttered their wings lightly, indicating that they had received the order.

…

Ashera had originally thought it was only a brief spell of dizziness.

As long as Little Butterfly woke up, everything would return to normal.

So when he could no longer suppress the murderous intent in his heart and used Mana to kill the dozen or so people gathered around him, his heart did not stir at all at the screams and terrified cries of the people fleeing in every direction.

The only thing he worried about was that Little Butterfly would blame him for doing something like this after she woke up, and then ask to sleep separately from him.

To him, that punishment was truly cruel.

His golden gaze swept lightly over the fleeing villagers. He tightened his arms around the girl in his embrace.

A crevice like an abyss split open beneath his feet.

Amid a rattling clamor of colliding iron Chains, dark Chains stretched out from the crevice and wrapped around his limbs.

In the blink of an eye, the two of them appeared inside the mud hut.

Bound by the Chains, he gently placed her on the bed, then left.

A short while later, Ashera reappeared in the mud hut, dragging someone in his hand.

It was the village doctor.

After the bewitched doctor carefully examined the girl’s condition, he told Ashera in a dull, emotionless voice-

His Little Butterfly’s body was full of the virus.

At some unknown point, she had been infected with the Pox Plague, which had recently been raging wildly and for which there was no cure.

Perhaps it was the bloodline of a Noble taking effect, because not the slightest trace of pox showed on her skin.

Regrettably, all of Tilisha was helpless against this plague. Even if the finest physicians from the Imperial Palace were summoned to treat her, it would be utterly futile.
