Chapter 282

Beili could practically feel a few tiny black lines sliding down her butterfly head.

How did she manage to run into them even when she was just hitching a random ride?

“Aren’t there exactly five of us here? Why is there an extra person?”

Someone in the team asked in confusion.

“The badge. One badge can teleport up to five people.”

Cyril lifted the badge in his hand and said coldly, “The number on the badge is six right now, which means there’s one extra person. Is that explanation detailed enough for you?”

“How could that be?”

Someone in the team muttered.

Then they stretched out a finger and counted the people standing in the Teleportation Array again and again.

No matter how they counted, there were only five.

Cyril rolled his eyes, helpless and irritable.

He still hated waiting.

Cyril shot Lance a look.

Lance quickly understood what Cyril meant.

He gently lowered his eyes. When he opened them again, his ore-black pupils shone in the night as if wrapped in a layer of cool moonlight.

That was how Beili’s gaze met Lance’s.

-She had almost forgotten that people from Tilisha possessed very strong detection abilities.

She froze for a moment, then slowly crawled downward, hiding behind Cyril’s shoulder.

Footsteps approached from behind.

Beili looked back and saw another small team of several people.

Could the Magic Mentor faculty have assigned these people some kind of “dungeon-grinding” homework?

Beili guessed inwardly.

In that case, she did not necessarily have to hitch this ride with Cyril. She could hitch someone else’s.

Now she knew the badge’s maximum capacity was five people.

So as long as she found a team of four or three, she would not be discovered.

With that thought, Beili was just about to flap her wings and fly toward the team behind them.

Then she suddenly heard someone cry out.

The voice rang out with righteous confidence.

“Prince Lance, why… why did you push me out?”

Lance pointed behind him and said, “That team back there has four people. If you join them, the numbers will be just right.”

“But Prince Cyril isn’t in that team.”

Beili heard the person say unwillingly.

“You are from Tilisha-”

Lance smiled, his voice especially clear in the silent night. “Remember, you can’t rely on Sainthos’s Prince Cyril for everything. Got it?”

Then Lance turned to Cyril and said, “All right, Cyril, we can go now.”

Cyril gave a slight nod.

The badge in his hand flashed, stirring up a ripple of Mana.

The Teleportation Array activated instantly.

In the blink of an eye, the figures of several people vanished into the light.

The person who had been pushed out of the team watched them leave with a helpless expression. He sighed where he stood, then turned and walked toward the four-person team behind him.

There was a trace of pleading in his voice. “May I join you?”

…

Meanwhile.

After the warped space and dazzling light faded, Beili successfully rode Cyril’s “free ride” to a cold, damp island.

This place was clearly different from Holy Island. The howling sea wind seemed to hide sharp blades within it, and it stung when it scraped across the skin.

The people who had teleported over felt the chilly sea breeze and each took out the Academy’s white cloak, draping it over themselves.

Beili silently flapped her wings and flew up, leaving the team.

But before she had flown far, a red figure suddenly leaped up and caught her in its long, pointed mouth.

Startled, Beili tried to struggle free.

“Don’t move, Luoluo.”

The red-furred fox gently held her wings between its teeth, and a boyish voice, clearly carrying a smile, came from inside the fox’s mouth.

“Since you’ve joined our team, don’t even think about acting alone. It’s dangerous.”

As he spoke, excitement flickered in his pitch-black eyes.
“I’m so happy so many people came to keep me company while I rush my homework!”

The fox padded lightly back the way he had come.

The fox returned with the butterfly in his mouth, and the two figures shifted back into human form.

Beili helplessly lifted her gaze and saw that the three of them were still standing where they had been, each with a glowing orb summoned at their fingertips.

The surrounding darkness was driven back by the white light.

“Sister Bartholomew…”

Susanna greeted her in surprise.

The other was an unfamiliar female student, currently holding Susanna’s hand.

From the looks of it, she was a new friend Susanna had made.

As for whether she was a character who had appeared in the original story, Beili couldn’t remember.

She was starting to regret her decision to go out tonight.

Smoothing down the silver-gray curls the wind had blown loose, Beili forced herself to stay calm and explained, “Actually, I only wanted to come over and take a look. I won’t disturb you…”

“Since you’ve already joined this team, you will follow the captain’s orders.”

Cyril cut her off. His expression was as rigid as stone, and his voice was ice-cold as he said,

“Now, stay at the back. Don’t run around.”

There was not the slightest room for discussion.

“That’s right, Luoluo.”

Lance curved his narrow fox eyes at her. Then, from who knew where, he pulled out a palm-sized little notebook and began reciting from it.

“Rule One of Holy Island Exploration: an exploration team must have at least three people, and one student must serve as the healer.”

“Rule Two: the student holding the Teleportation Badge assumes the responsibilities of captain and must protect the team’s safety.”

“Rule Three: every member of the team must follow the captain’s orders…”

Beili was quick-eyed and quicker-handed. She snatched the notebook from Lance in one motion, and sure enough, none of the three rules he had mentioned were written inside. Instead, it was filled with tiny, trivial notes that looked like diary entries.

“Monday. Luoluo spaced out for the entire morning class.”

“Tuesday. Luoluo cried while eating mushroom cream noodles.”

“Wednesday. Luoluo talked to the tree under the dormitory building.”

…Damn it. Why was he recording this?

Beili snapped the little notebook shut.

“Got it. Follow the captain’s orders.”

She said.

Then she stuffed Lance’s notebook back into his hands and warned him with her eyes: Stop writing down things like this.

“Everyone, keep an eye on your surroundings as we move. We don’t know where the dark creature here might pop out from. If you see one, speak up.”

After Cyril gave his reminder, he walked ahead to lead the way.

…

Thick fog shrouded the island jungle.

The damp night mist carried a faint chill, slipping down everyone’s collars.

Cyril walked at the very front. The magical light in his hand was also the brightest, illuminating most of the area.

Susanna and the female student walked in the middle.

Though she was somewhat reluctant, Beili had already been carried back in Lance’s mouth, so she could only silently follow at the rear of the team.

Together with Lance, she brought up the rear.

After listening to Lance explain along the way, Beili more or less understood.

Although Holy Island Academy had opened enrollment to every Noble, students who had studied there for more than a year had to undergo the corresponding exploration assessment each semester.

Take Lance, for example. Like Cyril, he had studied at Holy Island Academy for four years.

So the requirements for his exploration assessment were a little higher.

“The Academy actually wants me to hunt down a large dark creature, take out the Magic Crystal inside it, and turn it in.”

The corners of Lance’s mouth drooped as he said to her,

“I have plenty of Magic Crystal, but fresh Magic Crystal? I really don’t have any.”

So he had gone to Cyril.

Uh… did this count as cheating?

Beili kept the question to herself and politely chose not to ask.

Along the way, the group still encountered quite a few attacks from dark creature.

But with His Highness the Prince, the Light and Pride of Sainthos, present, every single one was resolved without any real danger.
