Survival Guide After Accidentally Kissing a Demon - Chapter 281
Chapter 281
When Renee saw Beili cradling the conch shell as if she could hardly bear to put it down, she curled her lip and said, a little displeased, “Could you maybe take a look at the lavender Brother Lance sent you?”
Beili looked up at that, her gaze falling on the large bouquet of purple lavender in the silver-gray vase.
It had only just been arranged, yet the rich scent of lavender had already filled the room, as though the entire space had been transformed into a field of flowers.
She remembered now. Lavender was supposed to help with sleep and calming the nerves, too.
So Beili said, “It’s lovely. It smells wonderful. Please convey my thanks to your brother for me.”
Renee’s brows lifted. Her upturned fox eyes were rounder in shape than her brother’s.
With a hint of urgency, the young girl said, “And that’s all you have to say?”
Beili did not understand what Renee was getting at. Somewhat at a loss, she said uncertainly, “Then… should I prepare a return gift for him as well?”
At that, Renee raised her voice and reminded her loudly, “The welcome ball? Have you decided whose partner you’re going to be?”
The welcome ball? Partner?
Beili was completely baffled. She had no impression of it at all.
So this was the real reason Renee had been pestering her all day?
Holy Island Academy’s welcome ball was about to begin.
“When is it?” she asked in confusion.
“Tomorrow night,” Renee answered at once.
Beili nodded lightly.
“According to the agreement I made with your brother before, I’ll dance the first dance of the welcome ball with him.”
“Then I can rest easy.”
Renee finally smiled. She clasped her hands together and said with delight, “Then tomorrow, you need to tell the others you’ve changed your mind and won’t be their partner anymore.”
“The others?”
Beili froze, even more confused.
“Yes, the others. They came to ask you, and you accepted every single one of them. I really don’t know what you were thinking.”
“Though, judging by your expression now, it seems you don’t remember.”
Renee muttered the words with a trace of complaint in her tone.
“Are you really unable to remember, or are you just playing dumb? Bartholomew, you weren’t this muddleheaded during the Coming-of-Age Ceremony.”
Beili’s expression smoothed over, and she said coolly, “I’d like to rest. If there’s nothing else, you may leave, Your Highness.”
It was an obvious dismissal.
Renee did not mind. After all, she had already achieved her goal.
So she leisurely drew out a red handkerchief and elegantly wiped her hands.
Humming a light tune, she turned and walked out the door.
She even closed it behind her on the way out.
After Renee left, Beili’s expression darkened.
She did not like this current state of drifting between sleep and waking, hazy and muddled.
She raised a hand to summon one of her Morpho Butterflies, only to realize that her Mana Pool was pitifully low. After waking from that long dream, she had barely gone out to collect Mana.
So Beili felt that her mental state might have something to do with her Mana Pool.
There was too little Mana in her Mana Pool. Otherwise, something like this never would have happened.
Beili got up and pulled a leather suitcase out from beneath the bed.
She opened it. Several layers of soft black silk lined the inside.
On top lay a Memory Jar and a black necklace.
There was also a Black Lamb, eyes closed and sunk deep in sleep, looking just like a plush toy.
Her red eyes lowered slightly, and her gaze softened at once.
She reached out and gently stroked the Black Lamb.
Then…
She picked up the black necklace from the suitcase.
She sealed the suitcase again with the Magic Lock, pushed it back under the bed, and cast another concealment spell over it.
Clutching the black necklace in her hand, Beili instantly used Beast Transformation and became a butterfly. She fanned her blue-green wings, flew out the window, and slipped into the night.
…
After the new semester began at Holy Island Academy, the Academy added several new Teleportation Array formations, and they were open for use.
Beyond those Teleportation Array formations were several islands where dark creature activity was frequent.
The prisoners on those islands were all dark creature-type beings that had once rampaged across the Border.
When the Mage had captured too many of them, they simply threw the creatures onto these remote islands and locked them up under heavy guard.
To put it in simple terms: Holy Island Academy had opened a few tense, exciting, challenge-filled little dungeons.
They were for energetic students to explore whenever they were bored in their free time.
Any student who wanted to farm the dungeons only had to go to the Holy Church Academy and apply for a badge.
With that badge, they could freely enter and return through the Teleportation Array formations.
Of course.
Only students with a certain foundation in magic could possess such a badge.
In other words, only students who had at least earned the right to take private lessons with a Magic Mentor were qualified to obtain one.
Otherwise, for other students-say, the ones who loved skipping class, had taken half a month of magic lessons and still knew nothing about ordinary magic, or could not even memorize a basic incantation…
If they took a badge and entered one of those island dungeons, they would be marching straight to their deaths.
As a freshman who had only just enrolled this semester, Beili naturally did not have a badge either.
But Beili had a way.
In her Morpho Butterflies form, Beili glowed with blue-green light. After dimming the faint radiance around her, she quietly flew behind several people preparing to teleport.
Yes. Her method was to hitch a free ride.
“Miss Susanna.”
Beili had only just settled in place when she heard someone in the group say a familiar name.
“In a moment, stand at the back of the team. If any of us gets injured, we’ll go to the rear and find you ourselves.”
Beili slowly crawled onto that person’s shoulder and saw a familiar head of pink hair.
“All right.”
Susanna answered.
“With Cyril on our team, are you still worried someone will get hurt?”
Another familiar voice spoke with a laugh.
“If you ask me, Miss Susanna only needs to stay somewhere safe. We definitely won’t get injured.”
That frivolous tone.
Beili turned her field of vision toward the source of the voice and, sure enough, saw Lance with his red hair and black eyes.
“Enough. How much longer is Cyril going to drag this out?”
Lance said, his voice tinged with dissatisfaction.
“Why hasn’t he activated the Teleportation Badge yet? Let’s go and come back quickly. I still want to rest early tonight. Otherwise, I won’t be in good shape for dancing tomorrow…”
“There’s one more person.”
An icy voice sounded above her head, cutting the boy off.
“…”
Only then did Beili realize whose body she had landed on.
-that Big Ice Cube.
