Chapter 285

“The people I sent out said you and His Highness the Second Prince once appeared together in the imperial capital of the Nauze Kingdom, just… just two months ago!”

The red-haired girl widened her eyes, her golden artificial eyes fixed tightly on Beili.

“Renee-don’t be so rude!”

Lance immediately picked up the red-haired girl who was shaking her and took her down the stone steps for a scolding.

Perhaps Doctor Cassius’s medicine had started to take effect.

A few fragmented memories suddenly flashed through Beili’s mind.

After waking up, she had dressed herself in her room with great enthusiasm.

She put on a long black velvet dress, carefully braided several plaits into her hair, pinned on a dazzling black diamond hair ornament, and slipped lace-crocheted gloves onto her hands.

When she passed Renee’s room, the door was wide open.

Renee was speaking to someone through a Communication Orb.

“Bartholomew, are you going out?”

Seeing her leave, Renee had even reminded her especially,

“Remember, tonight you can only dance with Brother Lance!”

What had she said back then?

Beili vaguely remembered-

“Only dance with your brother?”

At first, she had been surprised. Then her lips had curved, and she had given Renee a nasty smile as she said,

“At the welcome ball, I’ll dance with everyone who invites me.”

Dizziness.

Her thoughts were cut off by a wave of dizziness.

Renee had grabbed her shoulders and shaken her a few times just now, and Beili felt her head grow faintly dizzy.

Or perhaps it had something to do with the wine.

Beili lowered her eyes and looked at the wineglass by her feet.

“Miss Bartholomew, are you all right?”

Clarence gentlemanly placed his hand behind her, still keeping a finger’s width of distance from the black velvet dress.

“Clarence… how much did I drink?”

She asked, a trace of confusion in her voice.

“A lot. By the time I came here, you were already drunk, Miss Bartholomew.”

Clarence answered truthfully, his tone tinged with concern.

Beili held her head. She was still a little dizzy, but she clearly remembered what she had said back then.

Oh. It had indeed been her who said it. But why had she said something like that at the time?

Beili tried hard to recall her state of mind then.

Anger. Back then, all she had felt was baseless anger.

It was as if she had been nourished by the power of darkness for a long time, and without proper guidance, she had begun to be corroded and assimilated by that dark power.

The people in the square were still dancing. The melody of the melodious harp and crisp drum bells drifted together through the air.

No one noticed what was happening by the stone steps.

Renee had been scolded to tears by Lance, and Beili heard a few words.

“Brother… I love him…”

The words “love him” made her emotions churn like a volcano on the verge of erupting.

When she lifted her red eyes, they glimmered with a faint, dark light.

It was at that moment that Renee pushed Lance away and ran back to her again.

Her golden artificial eyes were wide open, tears still hanging in their rims.

“Bartholomew, hurry up and tell me where he is!”

Her voice had gone sharp and grating from the loss of control over her emotions.

“After he left the Nauze Kingdom, where did he go?”

Renee pressed.

“I know that after you left the Nauze Kingdom, you came to Tilisha… Oh, could it be that His Highness the Second Prince is still in our Tilisha Kingdom?”

Her piercing voice suddenly softened, and the girl asked tentatively.

Beili gave a cold laugh and stood up.

She was already taller than Renee to begin with. Now that she stood two steps higher, her red eyes could only lower, looking down at Renee from above.

“Don’t waste your effort, Renee.”

She heard her own voice turn icy, as if wrapped in the chill of winter snow.

“You won’t find him.”

“And-”

She enunciated each word.

“He is mine.”

Renee’s golden artificial eyes widened, and the mist gathered in their rims instantly receded.

The surging emotions faded. Beili pressed a hand to her forehead, not knowing why she had said that to Renee.

She lifted her red eyes, searched for the direction of the dormitory building, then shook her head and left with a sigh.
A rush of hurried footsteps.

“Miss Bartholomew?”

Clarence suddenly called out behind her, his voice panicked.

By the time Beili heard him, her body had already gone weightless.

It was as if someone had grabbed her by the shoulders and yanked her backward with all their strength.

Behind her were tiers upon tiers of stone steps. Below them were the students who had been dancing.

The music had stopped now, so the students should be scattering.

Which meant what awaited her…

Was probably the cold, wide expanse of the plaza.

Beili instantly entered Beast Transformation.

Her body grew light in an instant.

The edges of her shimmering blue-green wings turned a deep black, spreading like threads of silk.

A massive scythe appeared horizontally beneath the butterfly.

As she shifted from Beast Form back into human form, she sat on the black, spine-like handle of the scythe as if it were a swing.

Several wisps of black mist, thick as ink, slowly coiled around her.

She stared at the red-haired girl on the stone steps, her lashes lowered slightly and her lips pressed together, something turning over in her mind.

She was thinking:

Since Renee had wanted to kill her just now, even though she had failed, to prevent it from happening a second time…

She should kill Renee.

The moment that thought surfaced, swarms of Morpho Butterflies appeared behind her, their tails dragging strands of black mist.

The students below shrieked and scattered completely. Even the harp had been carried away.

They ran into the arcade to watch, chattering among themselves.

No one knew what would happen next.

…

The swarm of butterflies flew toward Renee.

“Luoluo-”

The red-haired, black-eyed young man stepped in front of the girl and shouted at her, urgency in his voice.

“Come down, Luoluo! I’ll make Renee apologize to you!”

With a somewhat dark expression on her cool, beautiful face, Beili sat on the scythe and looked at Lance.

“I am not apologizing!”

Renee hid behind him, looking both flustered and emboldened.

“Lance-I am going to kill your sister tonight.”

She heard herself say it.

“So if you don’t want to die, move.”

Lance’s pitch-black pupils trembled.

Then…

The young man turned and hugged his sister.

As if to say that if Beili wanted to hurt his sister, she would have to hurt him too.

Beili stared at them, unable to stop the irritation churning inside her.

What was she thinking?

Oh. At this moment, she was so manic with agitation that she actually wanted to raise her hand and let the Morpho Butterflies corrode Renee and Lance into nothing together.

If she wanted to kill Renee, then she had to clear away every other obstacle as well.

It was as though a voice was echoing in her mind.

Enticing her to do it.

But kill Lance too?

No. She didn’t want to do that.

She didn’t even want to kill Renee.

Renee had only been bewitched by Ashera.

She only wanted to find Ashera, and she couldn’t find him at all…

Killing intent and reason tangled together.

Beili furrowed her brows and pressed a hand to her forehead.

“Bartholomew-”

A cold voice cut through the cool air and the colorful lights drifting in the sky, reaching her ears.

It was Cyril.

The moment Beili heard Cyril’s voice, she felt as if she was in the middle of making a terrible mistake.

At the same time…

A spell appeared behind her, spreading open like a fishing net.

The Black Bone Scythe beneath her sensed the danger at once and swiftly shifted position.

The Morpho Butterflies following behind her also scattered quickly.

She had only just dodged it.

Then three more spells flew toward her from three different directions.

They were blocked by the Morpho Butterflies circling around her.

It seemed she had already alarmed the Mage from the Holy Church Academy.

The situation was now extremely troublesome.

Beili knew perfectly well that things had already spiraled out of control, but the anger inside her made her unwilling to stop just like that.

For an instant, she even had a certain thought-that she wanted everyone chasing her to disappear.

Oh… that wasn’t right.

Someone, please make her stop.

“Beast Transformation.”

Someone suddenly said to her.
