Chapter 294

At the sight of his eyes, Beili felt a sudden chill of alarm race through her.

She did not understand why Lance was looking at her like that.

Yes, Lance.

Bright red hair, narrow foxlike eyes tilted upward at the corners, and pupils as black as ore.

It was Lance. There was no mistake.

It was the first time she had ever seen such emotion in Lance’s eyes.

Lance met her gaze for a moment, then turned around. His figure quickly vanished into the crowd.

By the time Beili came back to her senses, she had already hurriedly said goodbye to Doctor Cassius.

Then, as if compelled by some unseen force, she quickly chased after him.

She wove around the crowd and caught up to Lance.

“Lance-”

Beili grabbed the young man’s wrist.

“Luoluo?”

The young man turned back to look at her, his narrow foxlike eyes lifting slightly.

All the ruthless emotion from before had disappeared, as if it had never existed at all.

Beili paused, then raised the corners of her lips in a smile.

“Have you been feeling any better lately?”

Lance looked at her and smiled. The expression on his face returned to its usual ease, as though that fierce look just now had never appeared.

“A little.”

He answered simply and said nothing more.

“Lance, are you angry with me?”

Beili asked in a small voice, her tone tinged with confusion.

Lance gave a soft laugh. Then the smile on his face quickly faded, and he replied,

“Luoluo, don’t overthink it. I’m not angry with you.”

Beili’s brows drew together slightly, the unease in her heart still lingering.

She knew Lance had not been in a good mental state since waking from the dream, and he was no longer as fond of joking and laughing as before.

But she had not mistaken that look just now.

That look, as if he almost wanted to devour her.

Was he angry because she had left him alone in her dream back then?

Or was it because of Doctor Cassius?

Beili lightly pressed her lips together, then took the initiative and said,

“Lance, why don’t you pick out a gift? I’ll buy it for you, okay?”

“…A gift?”

“Yes.”

Lance was quiet for two seconds. His black eyes looked straight at her, and then he slowly shook his head.

“No need, Luoluo.”

Lance had actually refused. Beili had not expected that at all.

If this were before, the corners of Lance’s mouth and his foxlike eyes would have lifted all the way to the sky.

“Why not?”

Beili tilted her head and pressed him,

“I thought it might make you a little happier.”

Lance’s black eyes drifted away from her wide red ones and turned toward the distant waves. His voice carried no discernible emotion as he said,

“There’s really no need. I don’t want anything.”

He did not want anything.

Of course. Lance was the Prince of Tilisha. Whatever he wanted, he would have. Naturally, he lacked nothing.

“Then what about lunch? Have you had lunch yet?”

Beili asked with concern, her deep red eyes looking at him earnestly.

Lance lowered his lashes, which were like feathered fans, and shook his head.

“You haven’t? Then perfect. Let me treat you to a seafood meal!”

Beili immediately suggested with bright enthusiasm, “I know a restaurant that tastes pretty good.”

Only, before she could finish speaking, she heard Lance refuse.

“No need. You’ve already eaten with someone else. You don’t need to keep me company for another meal.”

That sentence made Beili feel as if something had lodged in her throat.

It took her a moment to react. Then she asked instinctively,

“How did you know I’d already eaten?”

His narrow foxlike eyes lowered. Lance lightly pursed his lips and said nothing.

Beili hurriedly explained,

“I ate with Magus Cassius. It was because he helped me with something very important.”

Beili herself found it strange.

She did not know why she was explaining so much to Lance.

She only had an instinctive premonition that if she did not make things clear, he would probably stay angry forever.
Yes, he was angry. Definitely angry.

Even though he hadn’t admitted it. Even though Beili still hadn’t figured out why.

Standing in front of her, the red-haired, black-eyed boy seemed unwilling to linger on the subject.

His foxlike eyes curved slightly, and he put on a perfectly casual smile.

“Luoluo, you don’t need to explain anything to me.”

He chuckled softly. “I don’t have much of an appetite right now. I can’t eat.”

Beili paused for two seconds after hearing Lance say that. Then she simply grabbed his wrist and dragged him back.

What an ungrateful guy. Whether he wanted to eat or not, she was going to make him eat.

Hauling Lance along by force, Beili brought him to a shop set up under a thatched awning.

It was a fruit smoothie stall.

“Wait here.”

Beili pressed Lance down into a chair.

“I’m going to buy you a proper meal. Eating only a smoothie is still too harsh on the stomach.”

She first ordered two strawberry smoothies from the clerk, then left for a row of shops behind the stall to get Lance a takeout seafood baked rice.

But when she came back…

The boy was no longer in front of the fruit smoothie stall.

Beili stared blankly at the empty seat for a moment, then hurried over.

“The red-haired, black-eyed, very good-looking boy who was sitting here just now-where did he go?”

She asked the clerk.

“Oh, him-”

The clerk knew who she was describing and said, “Not long after you left, he got up and walked away.”

Lance left?

“Did he say where he was going?”

Beili pressed.

The clerk roughly pointed in a direction, then shook his head uncertainly.

A strange feeling rose in Beili’s chest.

She couldn’t quite name it.

Maybe Lance really didn’t have an appetite.

And besides, she didn’t seem to have any reason to be so attentive to Lance in the first place.

Beili belatedly realized.

“Miss, do you still want the two strawberry smoothies you ordered?” the clerk asked.

Beili snapped back to herself and replied, “Make it one. I’ll take it to go.”

…

Beili took the smoothie, raised her hand to summon the Morpho Butterflies, and cast a cooling spell on it. Then she walked toward the Teleportation Array.

When she was almost there, she saw blond-haired, green-eyed Cassius standing at the entrance, waiting.

Beili walked over to him and murmured ruefully, “If I’d known, I would’ve ordered two after all.”

Cassius lifted his brow slightly in confusion.

“What are you talking about?”

“Nothing.”

Not that the shop sold blood-flavored smoothies anyway.

“Doctor Cassius, didn’t we already say goodbye?” Beili looked at him, her red eyes faintly bright. “Why are you waiting here?”

“Because I was a little worried, so I followed behind you two,” Cassius answered honestly. “Then I saw Prince Lance leave.”

“I thought you probably wouldn’t like going back to the Academy alone.”

“I really wouldn’t.”

Beili gave him a faint smile.

“Thank you, Doctor Cassius.”

Cassius gently shook his head.

“It’s nothing. Let’s go.”

…

The two returned to Holy Island Academy together.

When they reached the girls’ dormitory building, they said goodbye.

Since Lance hadn’t eaten it, the delicious seafood baked rice naturally became her dinner.

As for the magical item meant to store the Black Lamb, Doctor Cassius told her it would take some time.

It couldn’t be made in the short term.

During this period, Beili returned to a routine that consisted of nothing but going back and forth between the magic classroom and her dorm room.
