Chapter 331

Before long, Ashera wrapped his arms around her again after she rolled over, brushing the pads of his fingers across her face.

His touch was featherlight. She often fell asleep while he stroked her face like this.

But now…

Every caress of his icy fingertips across her cheek struck sparks through Beili like flint, setting her alight again and again.

Even the breaths spilling from her lips were growing noticeably hotter.

Beili’s mind began to blur.

She found herself tilting her face into his broad, cold palm, rubbing against it with instinctive need.

The man seemed to say something to her, but she didn’t take it in.

All she knew was that his voice sounded wonderful.

She leaned closer to listen, hearing his deep, gravel-worn voice and the quiet rumble of his laughter.

Following the sound, Beili turned and saw his sculpted, strikingly handsome face.

Ashera was beautiful.

Beili had always known that.

It was just that his mercurial temper and his identity as a Demon often made her overlook his flawless appearance.

Instead, she usually focused on studying his expressions and movements, trying to guess his intentions.

Beili parted her lips and murmured something.

Her words were so slurred that even she couldn’t make them out.

Yet Ashera seemed to understand.

One elegant brow lifted slightly, and the smile at the corner of his lips deepened.

He nodded with a laugh.

She immediately cupped his face and kissed him.

Her fingertips brushed his bobbing Adam’s apple.

Only when their lips were already entwined did she remember what she had asked him.

You’re so beautiful. May I kiss you?

…

After they kissed for a while, Ashera disappeared beneath the covers.

The logs in the fireplace crackled merrily, while fragmented sounds drifted out from under the blanket.

By the time she came back to her senses, her fingers were tangled tightly in his cold silver hair, his face buried deep as he dealt with the aftermath.

When her gaze met those unfathomable golden eyes, dark and glinting with amusement, Beili opened her mouth but couldn’t speak.

Because she realized that while he was dealing with the aftermath, the flames that had finally died down had been kindled all over again.

Beili’s vision flashed white once, then again.

In the end, she opened the Dream Domain and fled inside.

The swirling nebulae, the melting moon, and the great tree and swing she’d left behind last time were all veiled in pink in her eyes.

She walked over and sat on the swing.

Now that she was alone, she realized her heightened desire caused her body no discomfort at all.

It merely made her miss someone terribly.

The swing suddenly began to move.

Someone stood behind her, gently pushing it back and forth. Beili didn’t turn around.

That person was merely a figure she had created with Mana.

Her toes brushed the tulips on the ground, sending fireflies fluttering out from their buds.

Perhaps she should stay in the Dream Domain until she adjusted to the Mana, Beili thought.

She sat on the swing for a while.

Then a heavy shadow fell over her, and the swinging seat was abruptly forced to a stop.

Someone had caught hold of the swing’s rope. A soft, low laugh sounded above her.

“It seems you truly do like him, Little Butterfly.”

Beili looked up and found those beautiful features shrouded in gloom.

…

Within the Dream Domain, those golden eyes were dark and brooding.

In the past, seeing that expression on Ashera’s face would have frightened her instinctively. Now, it didn’t.

Because deep within those golden eyes, she caught a dim glimmer of hurt.

Like stars going out, it carried a desolate loneliness.

“You think creating him just to push my swing is proof that I like him?” Beili argued.

“You wanted to see him.”

A barely perceptible smile tugged at Ashera’s lips as he continued slowly, “But you didn’t want to see me.”

Beili thought there might be something wrong with her.

Seeing Ashera upset truly did give her a twisted sense of pleasure.

“If you’d like to be the one who pushes my swing…”

Her tone light, Beili lifted a hand. The silver-haired young man behind the swing instantly transformed into a man with Black Goat Horns.

He looked exactly like the real Ashera standing beside her.

Ashera lowered his gaze to her.

The smile remained on his lips, and his golden eyes narrowed slightly. The wounded glimmer in their depths had vanished, leaving only danger behind.
Without a word, Beili put away the utility puppet.

“If you have any questions, you can ask me. I’d be happy to answer them. You could ask about what you dreamed, for example, though I don’t remember much either.”

Ashera spoke without warning.

At his words, Beili’s mood sank again.

“Oh, really?”

She feigned nonchalance.

“But I’m not interested in your love story.”

Ashera stroked her head and said softly, “There was no love story.”

There wasn’t…?

Beili paused.

But she had dreamed of Ashera pursuing her in his Demon form. Did that mean… he had failed?

Considering Ashera’s ability to travel freely between the past and future, along with what he had said in her dream, Beili couldn’t help forming a theory.

Perhaps he had traveled to the future and seen someone by his side. Then he had returned to the past, eagerly sought that person out, and confessed his feelings… only to be rejected?

Beili fell silent for a moment.

Perhaps sensing that her mood had improved, Ashera grasped one of the swing’s flower-covered vines with one hand and stroked her head with the other. With a faint, knowing smile, he said, “All right. It’s time to leave. You still need an outlet for your emotions.”

“I don’t need one. I can endure it,” Beili insisted stubbornly.

Even though a pink glow had already enveloped everything in her sight.

Even though the hand stroking her head was so gentle.

“I don’t want you using people created in the Dream Domain as an outlet.”

Ashera reached out and lifted her from the swing.

“What if you keep enduring it until all your Mana disappears?”

“It can disappear?” Surprise flickered through Beili’s red eyes.

At the same time, she suspected that was a lie.

He had to be saying it on purpose. Beili seriously doubted him.

While she was still suspicious, Ashera drew her close and kissed her.

Beili saw the leaning tree burst into pink blossoms, its falling petals cascading like pink rain.

Eventually, the rain stopped.

The spinning nebula grew still, shattering into scattered fragments of fluorite.

It was the ceiling of the house.

At some point, she had dispelled the Dream Domain.

Aside from the crackling firewood in the hearth, the only sounds left in the room were the faint noises slipping through her pursed lips.

Again and again.

So many times that she lost count.

It was only when she was utterly exhausted that the pink haze and desire clouding her mind finally vanished.

Beili counted the meals she had eaten since the hunger began and realized that four or perhaps five days had passed.

Throughout those days, Ashera stayed inside the house with her and never went out.

Only after Beili had fully recovered and stopped constantly nuzzling into his arms did Ashera leave to begin another round of collecting Mana.

He was gone for a long time again.

When he returned, he wrapped his arms around her and kissed her.

Once the Mana transfer was complete, Beili ate dinner and read the Magic Book for a while. Then, without warning, she felt hungry again, and the hunger only continued to intensify.

It stayed with her until she closed her eyes and fell asleep.

In the middle of the night, the hunger successfully woke her.

The space beside her was empty. Ashera wasn’t under the covers.

Beili looked around and discovered that he wasn’t anywhere in the house either.

She tried to endure it, but eventually she couldn’t take it anymore. She threw off the covers, went into the kitchen, and took the bread from her storage pouch, eating the loaves one after another.

She kept going until there was no bread left to take out.

That had been a week’s worth of provisions.

She was painfully stuffed, yet she was still hungry.

Once Beili realized this, she washed up again, climbed back under the covers, and ordered the Morpho Butterflies to put her into a deep sleep.

When she woke again, Ashera was back beside her, holding her as usual.

“Did you eat all the bread?” Ashera asked when he saw her open her eyes.

Beili nodded.

Ashera pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead. “Then I’ll go buy some more.”

Only food could ease this hunger.

Ashera left the house, his figure disappearing into the dimly lit blizzard.

He had gone to the Town to buy bread.

When he returned, Beili ate her way through the bread he had brought back. Then she suddenly realized that the bread had changed.
