Chapter 352

Her consciousness began to blur. Her thoughts grew sluggish, and her body continued to sink.

Then a ribbon of black mist coiled around her and carried her out of the sea.

Beili looked at the object supporting her. It resembled a curved black spine, slightly twisted and covered in strange patterns. It was the Black Bone Scythe.

One strand of thick, ink-like black mist remained wrapped around her to hold her in place, while several others spun rapidly around the scythe, making the Black Bone Scythe’s delight unmistakable.

There was no trace of dark Mana left in Beili’s body, so she could no longer establish a connection with the Black Bone Scythe.

But Mr. Vulture was still in the water.

The thought made Beili turn her gaze back toward the sea.

Through her dazed, unfocused vision, she seemed to hallucinate.

She saw an enormous undersea creature lift every ship out of the water, along with Vulture, who had fallen into the sea.

It appeared to be some kind of gigantic dark creature.

Beili could not describe what it looked like. It resembled a black whale with an enormous turtle shell growing from its back.

Her taut nerves finally relaxed, and Beili lost consciousness once more.

When she awoke, she was astonished to find herself lying in the attic room of the Holy Church Academy Dormitory. The familiar floor-to-ceiling windows, the familiar sloping roof… It was as though everything had returned to the beginning.

Although her connection with the Black Bone Scythe had been severed, it had still shrunk to the size of a pendant and now nestled affectionately between her collarbones.

Several knee-high dark creature attendants were also gathered beside the bed.

They were murmuring among themselves, making soft gurgling sounds.

Unable to understand them, Beili sat up and swept her gaze around the room. Beside the floor-to-ceiling windows hung a beautiful silver-gray wedding gown.

Its strapless bodice was a silver as pure as moonlight, gradually deepening into a lovely silver-gray at the hem, much like the color of her hair.

Layer upon layer of gauze created a soft, voluminous silhouette. It looked as though crushed stars had been scattered across the fabric, sparkling with enchanting pinpricks of light beneath the sun.

“Gurgle, gurgle!”

The dark creature attendants by the bed noticed that she was awake and cried out excitedly. They took down the wedding gown beside the windows and began dressing her.

Beili barely had to move. The little attendants arranged her gown, braided her hair, placed a silver-gray veil over her head, slipped crystal shoes onto her feet, and finally pressed a bouquet of Black Rose blooms into her hands.

They led Beili downstairs, where a familiar black carriage was already waiting outside the dormitory.

Because the roads on Holy Island were so narrow, the carriage’s team of four Black Horses had been reduced to a single Black Horse. The enormous coffin-like carriage had also shrunk to a smaller size that could accommodate only one passenger.

The little dark creature attendants surrounding her jumped onto the carriage and made more gurgling noises, apparently inviting her aboard.

Beili lifted her skirts and climbed into the black carriage.

Decorative cutouts had appeared along both sides. Through them, she watched as the carriage slowly left Holy Island Academy, traveled along a rugged path for some distance, and finally arrived at the Graveyard behind the island.

The air was damp and heavy with decay, though a faint, fresh fragrance of roses lingered beneath it.

Beili could vaguely hear someone singing.

The carriage stopped at its destination. One of the little dark creature attendants opened the door and gurgled, seemingly inviting her to step out.

Beili descended from the carriage and saw that the entrance to the Graveyard was still marked by the same old, rust-mottled iron gate. Now, however, the gate stood wide open.

A dense gray-white fog shrouded the Graveyard.

Beili could not see far into the distance, but she could hear the footsteps of many people.

The dark creature attendants led her into the Graveyard and onto a path covered in black gauze. Only then did she see the Black Rose blooms and white candles decorating both sides of the walkway.

The singing grew clearer the moment she entered the Graveyard. The ethereal voice sounded like a mermaid’s song. Its melody was romantic, yet carried a trace of cold, mournful sorrow.

There were indeed many people standing throughout the Graveyard, but the thick fog allowed Beili to see only those closest to the path.

She could make out a few vaguely familiar faces. They seemed to be people from the ships.

It was not until Beili saw three magnificently dressed kings standing side by side, with Mr. Vulture behind them, that she became certain some of the people here had indeed come from the ships.

There were also people from Holy Island Academy, including students and Magic Mentor faculty, as well as members of the Holy Church Academy.

Oh… Strangely enough, the Old Lady who had once made a formal gown for her was here too.

Yet every one of them seemed like a marionette being controlled by unseen strings. Whenever Beili’s gaze passed over them, they gave her stiff, artificial smiles and recited words of blessing.

“May your love endure for eternity…”

“May your vows remain unbreakable…”

Clutching the Black Rose bouquet and listening to those emotionless blessings, Beili almost wanted to laugh.

“Gurgle, gurgle!”

As though they had completed their task, the little dark creature attendants leading the way suddenly broke into cheerful steps. After a burst of bubbling noises, they scampered toward the end of the black-gauze path.

Beili raised her crimson eyes and peered through the drifting white fog.

Someone was waiting for her there.

The selfish mastermind behind this entire wedding.
