Survival Guide After Accidentally Kissing a Demon - Chapter 351
Chapter 351
Boom!
A deafening crash rocked the ship violently.
Beili opened her eyes, a flicker of vigilance flashing through her crimson gaze.
Hurried footsteps sounded outside the door. Through the wooden wall, she heard the people outside talking.
“A ship rammed us!”
“The hull’s been damaged!”
“The Mage contingent is trying to repair it with magic!”
“Who are they?”
“Judging by the emblem carved on their ship… it looks like they’re from the Nauze Kingdom!”
Another tremendous crash came from the other side of the ship.
Cries of alarm erupted on deck.
“Another ship just rammed us!”
“It’s a ship from the Tilisha Kingdom!”
“Never mind which kingdom they’re from! Repair the damaged hull first!” someone ordered.
“Yes!” the others answered in unison.
“Cumberland, you old bastard! Hand over my brother’s bride right now, or I’ll send your ship to the bottom of the sea!”
Someone was using magic loudspeakers to call the King of Sainthos by name, hurling threat after threat at him.
Beili immediately recognized the familiar voice as the King of Nauze.
But one particular word caught her attention.
‘Bride.’
Her crimson eyes shifted slightly.
Then came the sound of slow footsteps.
It seemed someone had emerged after being disturbed by all the shouting.
Beili had just begun wondering whether the servants had helped the king of Sainthos out when she heard him ask calmly,
“What’s the situation?”
A Mage replied respectfully, “Your Majesty, ships from the Nauze Kingdom and the Tilisha Kingdom have rammed us. The Mage contingent is repairing the damaged hull. Once the repairs are complete, we’ll find a way to use magic to push both ships away.”
The King of Nauze was still cursing from the other side.
The king of Sainthos fell silent for a moment before saying, “There’s nothing to fear from Tilisha’s Mage contingent. Send two or three Mage personnel to deal with them. Have the rest go to the Nauze side, and watch out for their magical artifacts.”
“As you command,” the Mage replied.
The King of Sainthos then asked, “How is Bartholomew of the Butterfly Family?”
The Mage answered, “Miss Bartholomew is awake and currently in her room.”
The slow footsteps drew closer.
Beili heard someone stop outside her door.
“Bartholomew, there’s no need to worry. It’s only a minor mishap. We’ll reach Holy Island soon.”
The calm voice of the King of Sainthos came through the door, carrying a gentle smile.
Beili lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling without responding.
Silence lingered outside for several seconds. Then the Mage lowered his voice and explained respectfully, “Miss Bartholomew is indeed inside the room. There’s an invisible Surveillance Orb in there. Please take a look, Your Majesty.”
Beili slowly raised her crimson eyes and scanned the ceiling.
An invisible Surveillance Orb. No wonder he knew what she and the maid had discussed.
The King of Sainthos ordered, “Assign more people to watch her.”
“Yes.”
The Mage acknowledged the order.
The voices and footsteps gradually faded into the distance, and a cold glint flashed through Beili’s crimson eyes.
…
She continued lying there in silence, listening to the commotion outside.
Suddenly…
Knock, knock, knock…
The tapping came again, but not from beyond the door. It came from outside the palm-sized circular window.
Something was tapping outside the window.
Beili frowned slightly. She remembered that there was nothing but open sea outside the cramped room’s window, with nowhere for anyone to stand.
“Knock, knock, knock-”
The knocking continued.
It was growing more forceful, as though whoever was outside had already cracked the window.
Beili had no choice but to get up and investigate. She walked over to the window just as a hooked beak poked through it. A familiar voice emerged from between the slightly parted beak:
“Miss Bartholomew, do you remember me?”
Beili approached and saw a longish neck extending through the window. It belonged to a blackish-brown Vulture.
“Mr. Vulture?”
Beili was somewhat surprised, but she quickly recovered. She first reached out and pushed his Vulture head back outside, then leaned closer and warned him in a low voice,
“There’s a Surveillance Orb in this room.”
“I know,” Vulture replied from outside the window. “But the Mage watching the Surveillance Orb is currently overwhelmed dealing with Tilisha and the ships from Nauze Kingdom. He probably doesn’t have time to monitor you.”
Beili breathed a sigh of relief and spoke to Vulture through the palm-sized window.
“Mr. Vulture, your father caught you after all, didn’t he?”
“The magical artifacts of Nauze Kingdom are far more powerful than you think, Miss Bartholomew,” Vulture replied helplessly. “Even when I hid deep in the mountains, they still tracked me down and dragged me out.”
“Then why have you come to see me?”
Beili stared straight into Vulture’s sharp eyes with her crimson ones and asked bluntly,
“Did your father send you? I thought I made myself perfectly clear. Your father only wants to use your young body to prolong his own life. If you help him, you’ll only be hastening your own death.”
“I know. I also know why they are sending you to Holy Island.”
Vulture smiled easily and replied,
“I came along this time to repay my debt! You saved me last time, Miss Bartholomew. Now it’s my turn to save you…”
Before Vulture could finish, another thunderous rumble shook the ship. A moment later, the entire vessel began rocking violently.
It was as though an enormous fish had rammed the hull from below, trying to tear the ship apart.
The sudden impact nearly knocked Vulture into the sea as well. He quickly dug his talons into the gaps between the wooden planks and barely managed to steady himself.
The people aboard the ship were once again thrown into utter chaos. While fending off the forces of Nauze Kingdom and Tilisha Kingdom, they scrambled to investigate whatever was attacking the underside of the vessel.
Vulture thrust his hooked beak through the window again and cried urgently,
“Miss Bartholomew, while they’re distracted, hurry and use Beast Transformation! Come out through the window, and I’ll take you away!”
Shouts of alarm came from outside the door.
“This is bad! Water’s flooding in!”
“The ship can’t hold out! It’s going to sink!”
“Hahahahaha! Cumberland! Your ship is about to sink!”
The King of Nauze’s booming laughter came through the magic loudspeakers.
“Here’s another piece of good news. If you come aboard my ship, I’ll deliver you safely back to Sainthos.”
“But if you board Tilisha’s ship, that fellow will definitely chop you into pieces!”
Footsteps approached, and someone twisted the handle of the room’s door.
Beili had already used Beast Transformation to become a butterfly and flown to the broken window.
Vulture gently took her in his beak and spread his broad wings, preparing to fly away.
But then-
A streak of golden magic shot down and struck them.
It was an Immobilization Spell.
Beili’s wings went rigid. By the time she realized what had happened, she and Vulture were already plunging into the sea.
Bone-piercing cold stabbed into her skin as seawater rushed into her nose and mouth.
The frigid sea swallowed her in an instant.
