“Your performance lately has been passable,” he praised with narrowed eyes, before tossing me back into the pool.

“You smell. Wash up.”

I swallowed a huge gulp of bathwater, coughing uncontrollably.

Yet, a strange feeling stirred in my heart-a warmth, almost like the feeling of home. Then again, I also felt like I was being gaslighted.

As a Dodder Flower, I’d never had a home. I grew up the hard way, clinging to the Tree Demons of other families.

No one respected me, but I respected myself.
