The Desperate Husband with Spikes - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
On the way back, Huo Xun asked, “Do you want a divorce because I’m over thirty and too old for you?”
“Did I ever say that? I was joking!”
“From your tone in the private room, it didn’t sound like a joke.”
“It was!”
Huo Xun fell silent for a moment.
“All right. I was overthinking it. I’ll have more free time soon, so I’ll start driving you to and from work.”
Driving me to and from work?
Wouldn’t that leave me with no personal space at all?
I almost blurted out, “No!”
His gaze settled on me, making my skin prickle. “Why not?”
“I have my own things to do!”
He gave a quiet hum, his expression calm, but the fingertips gripping the steering wheel had turned white.
My head was spinning, and I fell asleep the moment I touched the bed.
Through the haze, I heard a voice murmuring beside my ear.
“Do you want a divorce because I’m too old and boring?”
“But Ningning, when you said you loved me and wouldn’t have anyone but me, I told you I was five years older than you. I told you I didn’t want to treat marriage like a game.”
“Yet you grew tired of me after only six months. This fickleness of yours…”
“What am I supposed to do?”
By the time I opened my eyes, it was already the next day.
Dressed in soft pajamas, I got up and washed.
Huo Xun carried breakfast to the table. “You’re awake?”
He might have been older than me, but he was aloof, steady, and considerate-the perfect choice for a marriage alliance.
Unfortunately, even the finest jade had its flaw.
Every time I remembered he was impotent, my mood soured.
Noticing my lack of enthusiasm, he asked, “You don’t like today’s pasta?”
“That’s not it.”
I forced a smile, lowered my head, and ate with my fork.
Before leaving, I changed my shoes in the entryway.
Huo Xun stood behind me. “Ningning, haven’t you forgotten something today?”
“What?”
I looked up and met his eyes.
His voice was soft, carrying what seemed to be a trace of hope. “You haven’t given me my good-morning kiss yet.”
“Sorry. I was so busy, I forgot.”
I quickly kissed him and left.
I didn’t see him remain there for a long time without moving, a shadow falling over his habitually restrained and proper features.
“Too busy and forgot?”
“You’re tired of me. You just can’t be bothered to keep up the act anymore.”
