Zhu Hezhou frowned. “Miss Qi, you should apologize to Miss Yu.”

Qi Lingxuan’s expression immediately soured. As a genius alchemist, she was usually treated with reverence. Even men and women her age tried to curry favor or at least showed her some respect.

Yet now…

Zhu Hezhou had humiliated her in public.

Her face darkened. “Zhu Hezhou, what did I do wrong? If you want to indulge your foolish chivalry, don’t do it in front of me! Besides, who do you think you are?”

Zhu Hezhou’s face stiffened.

Zhu Miaoqing hurriedly tugged on his arm and warned him in a low voice, “Brother, have you lost your mind? Qi Lingxuan is the daughter of the Imperial Dragon Sect’s master and a genius alchemist. How dare you speak to her like that?”

“Yu Changying doesn’t look like a good person to me.”

Her words gradually restored Zhu Hezhou’s reason. Just then, Yu Changying’s weary voice drifted over.

“Brother Hezhou, please stop speaking for me. You’ll only bring trouble upon yourself.”

Zhu Hezhou immediately turned toward her.

He was about to comfort Yu Changying when Zhu Miaoqing tugged his arm again, signaling him not to say anything more.

The atmosphere grew subtle once more. No one attacked first, because whoever did might be surrounded by all the others.

Even Chi Yue did not act rashly.

That alone showed how powerful the contestants gathered here were.

Shen Yan swept a dark gaze over them, then looked toward several nearby locations. Instructors should be hiding there. They had neither shown themselves nor deliberately concealed their auras.

It was as though they wanted the contestants to know they were present, yet had no intention of appearing.

Zhuge Youlin brushed the loose hair from his forehead and smiled. “Since we aren’t fighting, let’s do as we please.”

Then he sat down on the spot, radiating an unruly air as he tilted his head to look up at them.

Everyone else was standing. He alone sat on the ground.

Disgust entered Jiang Xianyue’s eyes.

Shen Yan said nothing.

Zhu Hezhou’s gaze flickered. “Then let’s go our separate ways.”

Zhu Miaoqing immediately supported her brother, and the two turned to leave. But after only a few steps, a transparent barrier rebounded them a pace.

Their expressions changed in alarm.

What was going on?!

Wen Yuchu looked up from the guqin in his arms and glanced toward several locations. His expression remained tranquil, his voice mild as water. “The instructors have prepared a battlefield for us. How could they allow us to leave so easily?”

The siblings’ faces shifted.

Did they truly have to fight?

Jiang Xianyue’s gaze gradually turned dangerous. She laughed softly. “It seems we can only fight and see who remains standing at the end.”

“Fighting is exhausting,” Zhuge Youlin sighed from where he sat without dignity.

Jiang Xianyue immediately shot him a cutting glare.

He choked on his words.

Why was she only ever so fierce toward him?

She smiled sweetly at everyone else, yet looked at him as if he were garbage.

Zhuge Youlin sprang up and snapped, “Jiang Xianyue, this young master has had enough! Glare at me one more time and see what happens!”

She looked at him impatiently. Why was Zhuge Youlin so annoying? His mind seemed permanently stuck at the age of three.

“Zhuge Youlin, can you stop being so childish?” she asked calmly.

He scoffed. “Childish? What about this young master is childish? If you don’t know, stop spouting nonsense!”

Her gaze turned cold. “I can’t be bothered with you.”

Zhuge Youlin lifted his chin and sneered. “You’re just a tiny little thing. What are you so arrogant about?!”

Jiang Xianyue’s eyes instantly chilled. She hated people commenting on her height. She was short, but what business was that of anyone else?

If not for Yanyan, she would not tolerate Zhuge Youlin for a single moment.

“I’ll beat you until you scurry like a rat today!” Anger filled her round cheeks. She raised one slender hand, and a trident materialized in her grasp. Then she charged and thrust it straight at Zhuge Youlin.

He decided not to yield either.

He had a temper too!

Spirit threads shot forth like a spiderweb toward Jiang Xianyue. She swung the trident, releasing a flowing gale that tangled with the threads.

Jiang Xianyue excelled in close combat. She used the trident to knock aside Zhuge Youlin’s spirit threads, though some still slipped through. One sliced across her back, and blood seeped from the wound.

When another layer of threads swept at her, she dropped to her knees, bent backward, and slid beneath them, successfully closing in on Zhuge Youlin.

He remained unhurried, a smile playing at his lips.

As Jiang Xianyue thrust the trident at him, his feet abruptly left the ground. A closer look revealed that he was standing on spirit threads.

Her eyes darkened, and she pursued him closely.

Every attack she launched affected the others to some degree.

The Zhu siblings suffered the worst of it.

When Jiang Xianyue drove her trident toward Zhuge Youlin’s chest, he flashed aside. Zhu Miaoqing had been standing directly behind him, and the strike pierced her shoulder instead.

“Aagh!” Zhu Miaoqing screamed. She looked down to see the sharp point embedded in her shoulder as blood seeped out.

Her eyes reddened with pain.

“Sorry.” Jiang Xianyue pulled the trident free without hesitation. Blood sprayed from the wound.

“Aah…”

Zhu Miaoqing grimaced and glared at her with hatred. “You bitch! You did that on purpose!”

Even as she fought, Jiang Xianyue turned a cold gaze on her. “Stop talking nonsense, or I’ll beat you right now.”

Zhu Miaoqing fell silent.

She was furious and afraid. Clutching her wounded shoulder, she leaned against Zhu Hezhou for comfort.

“Brother, it hurts so much…”

Her sobs made Zhu Hezhou’s heart ache.

He could only feed her a healing pill and lead her away from Zhuge Youlin and Jiang Xianyue’s battle.

But whether the two of them did it deliberately or not, wherever the Zhu siblings went, their fight followed.

Both siblings suffered severe collateral damage.

Zhu Hezhou finally reached the end of his patience. Longsword in his left hand, he joined the battle to seek a chance for revenge.

Zhuge Youlin declared righteously, “Zhu Hezhou, this is a personal grudge between the two of us. It has nothing to do with you. You had better withdraw at once!”
