Was that a flood dragon?!

Shen Yan had not only become a Summoner—she had summoned a flood dragon!

The family head looked at Shen Xue’s severed head and shook with grief and rage, his eyes turning scarlet.

“Is this the source of your confidence, Shen Yan?!”

She raised her eyes coldly. “Not all of it.”

She cast a summoning formation. A vast black totem formation appeared beneath her, and its powerful aura made everyone’s expression change again.

“Answer my summons—appear!”

Countless otherworldly beasts materialized, packing the enormous open space like an approaching beast tide.

There were hundreds!

Wuying remained the most conspicuous and powerful among them.

The crowd’s jaws nearly dropped. People retreated instinctively, terrified the beasts would attack.

“Good heavens…”

“So many beasts!”

“This must be an illusion. Pinch me!”

“Ow! Heavens, it’s real! Shen Yan summoned an entire horde!”

“Her talent is terrifying!”

The Shen family stood numb.

As members of a summoning clan, none had ever seen or heard of a Summoner calling hundreds of beasts simultaneously.

They would never have believed it without witnessing the sight.

The beasts roared. The noise shook the imperial capital and drew people from every direction.

“This is my confidence.”

“I am Shen Yan—a Summoner!”

Holding the Spirit Phoenix Divine Sword, Shen Yan looked breathtakingly arrogant. She flicked its tip toward the Shen estate.

The horde answered with deafening roars, and the earth itself seemed to tremble.

The Shen family panicked. Even the elders grew uneasy.

Then the Shen family’s Supreme Elder, Shen Buyi, appeared at the gate.

“Supreme Elder!” the family exclaimed in delight.

The family head’s face changed. “Father.”

White-haired Shen Buyi regarded Shen Yan with unreadable eyes. He sighed helplessly.

“Little Yan’er, will you give your great-grandfather some face and end this matter?”

Shen Yan lowered her sword to her side.

“I can. But everyone who harmed Hongri and Yinyue must die.”

“Little Yan’er, this…”

“If you cannot do that, I’ll kill my way into the Shen family myself!”

Hongri and Yinyue wept. They had never imagined their mistress would point her sword at the entire family for their sake.

Yinyue sobbed, “Miss, forget it. Hongri and this servant are all right.”

Afraid of implicating her, Hongri added, “Miss, let’s leave.”

Shen Yan shielded them behind her and looked coldly at Shen Buyi.

“What is your decision, Supreme Elder?”

The crowd continued to grow, now including members of the imperial family and all the major Nanxiao factions.

The family head was furious. “Shen Yan, don’t be so ungrateful!”

She ignored him and watched Shen Buyi.

The old man nodded wearily. “Very well. If you trust your great-grandfather, I will deal with those people.”

Shen Yan knew he had always treated her father well.

“My father trusts you, so I will trust you too.”

Humiliated at being ignored, the family head opened his mouth to rebuke her.

Shen Buyi slapped him across the face.

Smack!

“Enough!” the Supreme Elder roared. “Little Yan’er severed ties because your favoritism drove her away! If you don’t want Tianhao and little Huai’er to sever ties as well, shut your mouth!”

The family head’s face was livid, but he no longer dared speak.

Shen Yan summoned a black roc and mounted with Hongri and Yinyue. Every other beast vanished.

Shen Buyi called urgently, “Where are you going, Little Yan’er?”

“To find Father,” she lied.

The roc spread its wings and took flight, raising a hurricane that forced the crowd backward.

“Hold tight,” Shen Yan warned the maids.

The ascent was so turbulent that all three would have fallen without gripping the bird’s feathers.

Many Nanxiao factions tried to call Shen Yan back. Her summoning talent was so powerful that they wanted to recruit her.

She departed too quickly for any of them to act.

Shen Buyi watched the roc fade into the distance.

“Safe travels, Little Yan’er.”

While everyone watched her leave, the blood in Shen Xue’s corpse abruptly diminished, as though something were absorbing it.

A wisp of black mist drifted from the body.

Someone happened to see it, but when they looked again, nothing remained. They assumed their eyes had deceived them.

The crowd began discussing what they had witnessed.

“Shen Yan may be even more talented than Shen Huai! I’ve never heard of a Summoner in the Pingze Western Region calling an entire beast horde!”

“The Shen family threw away the watermelon just to pick up a sesame seed!”

“I heard Shen Yan severed ties because the elders wouldn’t let her use the main gate during Shen Xue’s birthday.”

“Maybe the Shen family was her bad luck. Once she left, she could cultivate and became this strong…”

“If they hadn’t looked down on her, their reputation would be glorious now. Shen Huai is a top genius, and his sister is even greater!”

The elders heard every word. Their faces became increasingly ugly and ashamed, and they slunk back inside.

The family head stared at Shen Xue’s head, coldness filling his heart.

He had failed the woman from his past—the woman he had loved in his youth before an accident separated them.

Shen Xue, her daughter, closely resembled her. That was why he had favored the girl so greatly.

Now Xue’er was dead.

Without Shen Yan, she would still be alive!

Hatred multiplied in his eyes. He ordered servants to collect the corpse and entered the estate with a violent sweep of his sleeve.

Only Shen Buyi remained to clean up the aftermath.

About four hours later, a group of mysterious people arrived at the estate. Claiming to be Shen Xue’s relatives, they demanded to see her by name.
