Chapter 3

And just like that, I married Lin Huai and became the sect leader’s wife.

The greatest benefit of staying at Shushan was that the spiritual energy here was abundant, making it ideal for cultivation.

My demon core had been sealed, hindering my cultivation. To this day, I was still the most useless member of my clan.

Since my dream of becoming a demon consort who brought ruin to a nation clearly wasn’t going to happen anytime soon, I might as well improve my cultivation first.

Besides, I had heard that dual cultivation between a demon and a human could increase one’s cultivation by leaps and bounds.

Suddenly, everything became clear.

We were already married. It wasn’t too much to make reasonable use of my own husband, was it?

But ever since the wedding, Lin Huai had not appeared again. Even on our wedding night, we had slept in separate beds.

If the mountain would not come to me, then I would go to the mountain.

I decided to take the initiative.

That night, I carefully dressed and did my makeup, then carried a lantern through the darkness to Chenyuan Pavilion to find Lin Huai.

The Shushan disciples I encountered along the way all stopped to bow when they saw me, respectfully calling me the sect leader’s wife.

With a smile in my eyes, I said gently, “No need for such ceremony.”

The spring wind rustled softly.

I stood in the breeze in a plain gauze robe, my sleeves fluttering, my long black hair dancing in the wind.

A few strands of hair accidentally brushed across the disciples’ faces.

Their faces flushed bright red, and their heads lowered even further.

Just as the corners of my lips were about to curve up, I heard a voice as warm and smooth as jade drifting over from nearby. “Ah Chu.”

The smile that had only risen halfway was swiftly tucked away again.

I clearly hadn’t done anything, yet somehow I felt guilty, as if I’d been caught doing something bad.

The disciples snapped back to their senses as if waking from a dream. They hurriedly saluted Lin Huai, then fled at top speed.

I turned, glanced back, and looked at Lin Huai.

He stood elegantly beneath the corridor.

Just like that, we gazed at each other from seven or eight steps apart.

The hazy glow of the lantern fell over him, shimmering faintly, making him look like a deity.

My very soul was seized.

And against my will, a desire to destroy rose within me.

I wanted to ruin him, crush him, tame him, drag him down from his altar, and make him carry my scent.

Lin Huai was the first to break the silence.

“Ah Chu, what brings you to me so late at night?”

“Do you want to hear the truth or a lie?”

He gazed at me quietly. “Both.”

“I got lost.” I paused, then said, “That was the lie.”

“And the truth?”

“I missed you, so I came here specially to see you.” I lifted my eyes to him, my gaze rippling like water. “That’s the truth.”

He walked toward me, step by step.

Our eyes intertwined.

You in me, me in you. Neither of us backed down.

Suddenly, he raised his hand and tucked the mischievous strands of hair at my forehead behind my ear.

The atmosphere turned unbearably intimate.

Lin Huai suddenly bent down and leaned close to me, his gaze dark and unreadable.

“Ah Chu, remember this. All of you, every strand of your hair, belongs to me.”

“Do not let anyone else touch you.”
