The Fox Who Raised a Human - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
The Beastman who keeps me is a Melancholy Fox.
According to him, “I had planned to commit suicide that day, but then I met you.”
“At the time, you were covered in blood, carrying a suspicious lump in your hand, looking lost and clueless, even thinking about taking a bite.”
“I really couldn’t stand it anymore.”
“Too dirty.”
“I thought before dying, I could at least throw away that lump and clean you up.”
“At least not so unsightly.”
I was taken home by the fox.
Recalling that day, I just found it absurd.
Who would have thought that this fox, who appeared so aloof and refined, actually secretly liked self-harm.
A few clean, decisive cuts on his wrist had turned into hideous scars.
Seeing me staring at his wrist, he silently pulled his long sleeve down. “Don’t look. It’s ugly.”
“Once I’ve cleaned you up and found a suitable keeper, I’ll send you away.”
Without hesitation, I nodded.
The fox seemed a little unhappy, staring at me silently.
I was very frank, pointing at his wound. “You don’t take your own life seriously, so I can’t expect you to take me seriously either.”
“If I did stay with you, who knows how much suffering I’d have to endure.”
The fox got annoyed.
With a cold face, he pounded his cleaver on the cutting board with thundering noise for a while, then brought out a delicious and aromatic human meal.
Sensibly, I didn’t provoke him further and ate quietly.
Sitting at the other side of the table, the fox was so angry that both ears on his head were twitching.
“You ate my food.”
Without even looking up, I said, “You picked me up, so you’re responsible for me.”
I didn’t understand why his mood was so unstable.
On the first day after the fox picked me up, I sensibly curled up on the sofa and slept well.
But in the middle of the night, the fox, with dark circles under his eyes, shook me awake.
“Did you drug me? Why can’t I sleep?”
Every time he closed his eyes, he saw me curled up pitifully on the sofa.
I was bewildered.
“What does your insomnia have to do with me?”
The fox stared at me unblinkingly for a while.
Suddenly, he spread his arms and hugged me to his chest, burying his face in my neck and sniffing deeply.
He even took the chance to carry me to the bed in his room. I struggled.
“You pervert!”
“At dinner, you said I wasn’t allowed to enter your private space casually. Now what are you doing?!”
The fox covered my mouth, not allowing me to speak. “I changed my mind.”
Then he rested his chin on my shoulder and closed his eyes.
Before long, the faint, steady breathing of sleep came from behind me.
Numbly, I let him hold me, staring wide-eyed at the ceiling.
“I give up…”
Foxes really can’t be trusted.
