I switched on the bedroom light and stared pensively at the ball of fluff on my bed.

I had dried the rabbit before doing my own hair. It had been, what, five minutes since I’d left him on the sofa?

The apartment had been so quiet that I assumed he’d fallen asleep.

Apparently, he’d been busy taking over my bed.

He lay squarely in the middle of it. When he noticed me looking, he shifted a tiny bit to one side.

“You certainly know how to make yourself at home.” I poked his cheek. “But we still can’t sleep together. I’m afraid I’ll roll over and crush you in the night.”

The rabbit held out a paw.

Thinking he meant to scratch me, I tensed in anticipation of the pain.

Instead, he closed both front paws around my finger.

As though he were clasping his hands and begging.

“You think acting cute will get you whatever you want? Well, you—” I heard myself swallow.

His pink eyes sparkled, brimming with hope.

I surrendered. “In that case, you’re absolutely right.”

Damn it. That horrible shop owner had been right about at least one thing.

This really was a beautiful rabbit.

Beautiful enough to bewitch anyone.

After working late and then running around half the night for the rabbit, I was exhausted.

The next morning, I was dragged out of a deep sleep by a barrage of calls. My head felt ready to split.

“Hello?”

“Buzz me into the building. I’m downstairs.”

Before long, Jiang Xiao charged in like a whirlwind, laden with bags. “I knew you’d finish your project and then hide at home sleeping yourself senseless, so I brought supplies. Aren’t I a great friend? Wait—what is that?”

Oh no.

I woke up instantly.

Once, I’d donated money to an organization that claimed to rescue animals and lost nearly ten thousand yuan to the scam. At the time, she’d jabbed me in the forehead and scolded, “Just try letting your soft heart get the better of you again!”

Now Jiang Xiao caught sight of the rabbit crouched by my feet. Her expression grew complicated. “Mo Qian, don’t tell me you rescued this smelly rabbit on a whim too.”

“Sheshejia isn’t smelly!” In a moment of madness, that was the first thing I thought to argue about.

“You’ve already named him? What, are you planning to spend the rest of your life with a rabbit?”

As Jiang Xiao grew angrier, I gritted my teeth and held Sheshejia up.

There was only one option.

“This is the cutest creature in the world. Do you dare look him in the eye?”

“I’m not like you. I don’t go soft over every little—”

Jiang Xiao fell abruptly silent. Sheshejia had blinked at her pitifully and unleashed his cuteness beam.

I smiled in satisfaction.

Beauty really was the most useful passport in the world.

I took annual leave so I could stay with Sheshejia all day.

Jiang Xiao visited again, this time lugging heavy bags of rabbit food and carrots.

“It’s only because you’re too skinny.” She pointed at him with studied arrogance. “Eat more, you hear me?”

Sheshejia no longer bothered to charm her. He turned his head away and quietly resumed grooming himself.

Jiang Xiao left in a storm of curses. “What a little two-face. Exactly like his owner.”

I laughed until I ached, rubbing his soft belly.

Perhaps he was more relaxed than usual, because Sheshejia’s tail swished back and forth.

The sight made my fingers itch, and I reached out with a wicked hand.

But the instant I touched the tip of his tail, his entire body began to shudder violently.

“I’m sorry.” Flustered, I picked him up and soothed him on my lap. “Does that frighten you?”

Yet I’d buried my face in his belly like some rabbit-sniffing pervert before, and he had never shown the slightest resistance.

Without warning, white mist billowed around us. The world blurred, and my vision clouded over.

When the mist dispersed, a strange young man was sitting before me.

He straddled my thighs, his arms looped around my shoulders.

His unmistakable eyes were pink. His ears and neck had flushed the color of ripe peaches, making him look fresh and almost delicious.

He whispered as though on the verge of tears, “You can’t touch my tail.”

No way…

“Sheshejia?”

At the sound of his name, rabbit ears pushed through his hair. He rubbed his cheek lightly against my palm.

When I remained frozen, he grew anxious. The tip of his tongue emerged and brushed the back of my hand.

It was exactly how Sheshejia showed affection.

Once I was certain of the young man’s identity, my head spun. “It really is you.”
