Chapter 2

Men were fickle creatures, even after becoming immortals.

Just like my father. The moment he passed the imperial exams and earned an official title, he forced the wife who had stood by him through hardship into a divorce.

Their mouths were full of benevolence and righteousness, but in truth, they only looked down on everyone from above.

But I was not like my mother, who lost her man and threw herself off a cliff to die.

I was afraid of pain and death, so I hurriedly signed the divorce papers.

But one immortal after another stood there holding swords, their blades gleaming coldly. I was scared, and my hand kept trembling.

The moment I picked up the brush, I forgot how to write.

Li Xianyun reached out and naturally steadied my fingers, helping me sign my name.

“You don’t need to stall for time, and you don’t need to cling to me.”

After the divorce, Li Xianyun had someone bring out a treasure chest.

There was a sound coming from inside.

Seeing my confusion, Li Xianyun explained flatly, “A spirit pet for you. It can guard the house and courtyard.”

The day before yesterday, the old watchdog at home had died of old age.

That little dog had grown up with me. It had kept me company when I was learning to toddle and when I walked the roads at night.

It had guarded our gate, and now it had become nothing but a small mound of earth.

I cried until my pillow was soaked, afraid that from then on, I would be all alone with no companion.

Li Xianyun had comforted me, saying I would have him in the future.

Looking at the chest that held the spirit pet, I thought that maybe Li Xianyun still remembered our past.

I tried hard to find even a trace of reluctance on his face.

But Li Xianyun set down the chest and left.

Not once did he look back.

Chapter 4

The group of immortals stepped out of my little courtyard.

They trampled my fence.

Their sword energy chopped down the flowers, grass, and trees that Li Xianyun and I had planted together.

Even the chicken coop Li Xianyun had just built today fell apart.

The hens ran everywhere.

Everything was a complete mess.

Li Xianyun was stopped by that girl in white. She pointed at me and said softly,

“Why not prove your Dao now? She’s only a mortal. It would be much easier to do it…”

Li Xianyun cut her off with a frown.

“She won’t do.”

Who said I wouldn’t do?!

We were already divorced, yet he still had to badmouth his ex-wife. What terrible character.

Furious, I shut the door and stared at the big treasure chest Li Xianyun had left behind.

My heart felt hollow.

Forget it. Time to open the chest.

Such a wealthy immortal sect-who knew how many treasures they had left me?

They were right about one thing. I was just a common, vulgar person.

Otherwise, I never would have snatched Li Xianyun out of a pack of wild dogs’ mouths and carried him home to use as free labor.

I had used an immortal to warm my bed for three years. I couldn’t exactly call that a loss.

When I opened the chest, white light burst out.

There were no gold, silver, or jewels inside.

Only a man eight feet tall.

He had a head of silver hair and a face so beautiful it was almost demonic. His complexion was a little pale, and his smile was arrogant.

“Li Xianyun gave me to you, so I imagine you must be some ruthless character.”

“Use whatever tricks you have. Heh-heh-heh!”

I stuffed my handkerchief into his mouth.

Then I rushed out of the room, wanting to ask Li Xianyun what this was supposed to mean.

Sending his ex-wife a man right after the divorce-wasn’t that a little too generous?

If he could send one, why couldn’t he send another?
