Chapter 3

Inside the porcelain bottle was a Pill of Severed Feelings.

Master had told me to give it to Senior Brother because he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to bear doing it himself.

Twenty high-grade spirit stones-so expensive.

Sword Cultivators are generally poor.

After all, we just throw our wretched lives into the fray.

We aren’t like Pill Cultivators or Talisman Cultivators who actually have an income.

The meager rewards from sect missions can’t even cover the maintenance of a Sword Cultivator’s Lifebound Sword.

To me and Master, a Pill of Severed Feelings was an absolute luxury.

Senior Brother follows the Path of Ruthlessness, and Master was worried his Dao heart might be unstable.

Otherwise, Master would never have been so generous.

I held the Pill of Severed Feelings with extreme care, my mouth watering despite myself.

Fellowship and twenty high-grade spirit stones were duking it out in my brain.

I really wanted to keep it for myself.

The Danmaku noticed my inner conflict:

[Since he’s already on the Path of Ruthlessness, why not just swap it for a Pill of Sterilization and solve the problem once and for all?]

[Now that’s what I call true purification of the six senses!]

[Does anyone still remember that her Senior Brother is the male lead?]

My hand, which was in the middle of surreptitiously swapping the pill for a Pill of Sterilization, froze. “He’s also a Child of Fortune?”

The Danmaku finally said something useful.

This was a world from a tragic romance novel set against a cultivation backdrop.

The Hehuan Sect Saintess and a Sword Cultivator on the Path of Ruthlessness-put those two phrases together, and you can already tell their lives are miserable.

The man is heartless, the woman is devoted.

After enduring all sorts of physical and emotional torment, they finally end up together.

The story was full of ups and downs, making my heart race as I read the description.

Now, my reservations were completely gone.

Senior Brother chose the Path of Ruthlessness and was dedicated to the Dao; a Pill of Sterilization would perfectly sever his romantic ties.

That Hehuan Sect Saintess wouldn’t have to suffer the fate of being killed by Senior Brother to prove his Dao.

As for me, I would make a tearful, bloody profit of twenty high-grade spirit stones.

Everyone would have a bright future.

The Pill of Sterilization probably lacked a bit in the flavor department.

Senior Brother gagged as he ate it.

“Junior Sister, *munch munch*… where did this… *munch munch*… Pill of Severed Feelings… *munch munch*… come from? The taste is off.”

I kept a straight face. “Cheap medicine doesn’t work as well, so they have to put more effort into the flavoring. Bitter medicine is good for you. Hurry up and eat, Senior Brother.”

How was I supposed to know what a Pill of Sterilization tasted like?

That stuff is usually only used by the Beast Taming Sect.

Senior Brother was moving up in the world, though.

He was now eating the same kind of pills as spirit beasts.

The effects of the Pill of Sterilization were immediate.

After finishing it, Senior Brother seemed entirely detached, as if he had lost all desire for the secular world.

During the Immortal Sect Grand Competition, Senior Brother’s sword was unstoppable. Nothing could stand in his way.

By comparison, I looked exceptionally pathetic.

Before participating in the Immortal Sect Grand Competition, Master had repeatedly warned me.

He told me not to use my Lifebound Sword unless it was absolutely necessary.

He said he was afraid I would ruin his reputation.

I nearly rolled my eyes to the back of my head.

As if I didn’t know him.

Years ago, he was infatuated with an elder from the Hehuan Sect.

Unfortunately, she looked down on a poor Sword Cultivator like him.

He wouldn’t let me use my Lifebound Sword because he was still harboring delusions, afraid she might get the wrong idea.

Fortunately, the Danmaku gave me a bunch of malicious ideas that were harmful to others and of no benefit to myself.

For example, throwing a bunch of failed talismans from Talisman Cultivators at my opponents while pretending they were Explosion Talismans.

In reality, the talismans were coated in cheap knockout powder.

This move made me famous-or rather, infamous.

Every fellow cultivator who faced me was extremely guarded.

The little bald monks from the Buddhist sect would start beating their wooden fish the moment they saw me.

They were terrified that saying even one word to me would damage their accumulated merit.

The process was a bit underhanded, but the result was good.

The twenty disciples who won the Immortal Sect Grand Competition were all allowed to enter the Taixu Illusion Realm.

I happened to place nineteenth.

Just as I was a single step away from the entrance to the realm, my feet suddenly felt as heavy as a thousand pounds.

“I’m afraid I’m not qualified to enter.”
